Built two ,yes two , of the greatest Villa sides to ever grace the game .

Deehan ,Little and Gray . Just the mention of that forward line gives me goose bumps .Ask anyone who remembers about the night they put the mighty Liverpool to the sword . A truly great side ,And even with the loss of the great characters from that side ,along came an even better one ,and the rear, as they say ,.

For me , Ron Saunders is an absolute legend .

      Long Live The King .

I was at that Liverpool game. What a night!!

  2. Perhaps we should check the guest list. I hope Steve wasn't being tight at the time, "Look at £60 a head we're just going to invite family and close friends. I wasn't even at the club when Christiano was there!".

If they passed the ball like he does we'd be in League 2 already.

I'm not trying to make out that he's the best player on the pitch. The point is, if those with more quality had applied themselves like Alan Hutton does we perhaps wouldn't have got relegated. Talent is no good to anyone if not applied and application can make up for deficiencies in other areas. And that applies in most walks of life, thank goodness as my talents are extremely limited!

How can you think it when he comes out and says we were awful? and has said pretty much after every victory recently it still isn't good enough?

He is telling you it isn't what he wants. What more can he do?

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but I think what sne is trying to say is that the perfect Steve Bruce team and performance would be solid and pragmatic. Not giving the opposition many, if any chances and being clinical with the chances we get. Think Mourinho. Where as what would be more pleasing on the eye and exciting would be a more attacking possession based approach. Think Guardiola. Both good managers who have won lots of trophies but chalk and cheese when it comes to style.

If you look back over Steve Bruce's managerial career he's always been more Jose than Pepe and that ain't gonna change. He might give us a decent version of the former and get us promoted, if he tries to do a Pepe, which he won't, it would end in tears.

I'd prefer no music . But if we must play something we have a song, a song that conjours up wonderful memories for any of us who went in the seventies, it's as close as we will ever get to a theme song, and it's Theme from an Unmade Silent Movie. If I had my way that would always be played, if not as we come out, within ten minutes of kick off.

As it happens it's always the last one I gave on in my car as I arrive at the ground, so I'm inhabiting my own little seventies world every time , lucky me !

It's my wake up alarm every day :)

How are we ever going to get rid of him?

No club will wan't to pay even a third of what we bought him for, nor will they wan't to pay more than a fraction of what we are paying him.

He'll be loaned out for the remainder of his contract while we keep paying most of his salary.

Utterly shocking signing by our "football people".

I'm hoping that our "football people" are now a greatly improved group of professionals now that Steve Round is on board. At the moment that is merely a hope and we probably won't know a great deal until sometime in the future, as these things take a long time to show fruit. Cultural change is required at all levels of the club.

Not all great defenders needed pace! Positioning and reading of play are far more desirable attributes, both of which he seems to posess.

Only time will tell if he can adapt them to the new position but I think he has it in his locker

I agree there is a tendency to over emphasise pace in all positions, particularly at either end of the pitch. But it's a more than handy attribute if you have it. I mean Gabby and Micah Richards both have it and they are.......ok I get your point!

I don't think Jedi at the back is a good idea. He's not fast enough for center half if an opponent tries to break quickly.

But I'm aware that I could be wrong and there are some ways to compensate. So, I'm OK with Bruce trying it, as long as he quickly adapts if it doesn't work.

I'm also concerned about Jedi's lack of pace as a centre half. However I'm not sure who Wigan have up front and if they have any speed merchants. More of a worry is who will play at DM instead of him?

  9. I thought that on Saturday we comfortably won without ever looking like we would wallop them. We were competent against what I felt was a very average team. What frustrates me greatly is the fact that this very average Sheffield Wednesday team are actually 6th, which suggests that if we had managed to be average this season we would have easily made the play offs. With our extremely expensively created squad that should have been a walk in the park.

  10. Bruce has said he likes Kodija coming in from wide, so I imagine he will play left side with Hogan up top. If they forge an understanding, over a few games, not a few minutes, then they could really score a lot of goals.

Winning is more important than performance for me - taking over in 22nd and finishing top 10 would be acceptable this season - of course we'd all like to be higher but the fact we have done a large part of our team strengthening in January means we should have the nucleus of a settled team come August .

Whilst I agree that winning is and always will be the most important factor, the manner of the victories can't be totally ignored. If we have a game plan, even if we don't like the style, that is producing good results then we're happy. However if we're getting results that seem to be more by luck than judgement, whilst we may still be happy in the short term the luck may eventually dry up.

Obviously there is a fair dollop of subjectivity in assessing what is lucky and what is a deliberate game plan.
