    Thank you…

    he’s chatting shit again…

    dunno why he’s even here…

We destroyed “big teams” with these midfielders last season….

I’m here due to supporting both Villa and Everton and more Villa now. Have stated this many times already on site!

Concerning chatting shit that may be so but what I won’t do is change my opinion to fall in line with your and other’s opinion that Villa’s midfield is great.

There is nothing to suggest that other than a 7th place finish last season.

Can’t remember Villa ‘destroying’ any of the top six other than the 7 against Liverpool several seasons ago.

If Villa’s midfield is so great then why have Villa been without a trophy for many years now?

What!  All I’ve said is they are Everton type buys and furthermore Dyche type players and Meh players.  Not contradicting comments there.  Not for us! You can have them at Everton.

    Think we’ll agree to disagree.

    Sangare still available?

Would Guendouzi still be a useful option?

I’m conflicted… we do have a great midfield but… are they getting enough help? The same players can’t be expected to perform at peak levels in every game either… Kamara is still young and developing too… might pack on some muscle as he ages…

Easy to make too much of yesterday’s performance and result…

Definitely need fullback and attacking reinforcements imo…

Not sure Villa’s midfield is as great as you say it is. Also concerning consistency it was Villa’s first game of the new season and their midfield was still schooled by Newcastle’s as well as most of the top six last season.

I say top six because that’s where the Villa owners wanna be.

Villa have had the likes of Luiz and McGinn in midfield for several seasons now and generally come up short against the top teams.

Everton have everything to do with it, they are the type of players they buy.  Given your Everton allegiance (“Title” on Avatar says Everton) you would or should agree these are the types they would be normally interested in ie names but meh players, which have gotten Everton to where they are the last few seasons.

As for Poch, as it was shown, Adams was a back up option which they backed out of but they did it because their DM (in fact midfield) was really weak and he needed somebody urgently and so far other deals for that position weren’t eventuating but as soon as one did they dumped Adams like a wet towel.  Plus I’m not sure using Chelsea as the argument for credible transfers is good for your argument given their recent extensive buying and selling equivalent to a small country’s population size.

They didn’t dump Adams. Dunno where you got that from? They, being Adams and Chelsea couldn’t agree terms!

Concerning Chelsea’s transfer policy they purchased a lot of players in the past but have sold several of those for good money. They’ve also won the Champions League in that period on two different occasions so to a large extent their transfer policy has brought them great success!

Poch is widely regarded as a coach and known to develop younger players. Trying to buy Adams therefore shows that he has seen something in Adams that you don’t and if you’ll forgive me I’d prefer to use Poch’s judgement rather than someone who bends the truth to suit his arguments.

Totally agree that Everton have purchased poorly in the past. Every club has including Villa who were relegated because of it. Everton however managed to stay in the Premiership last season under a new manager whom you deride due his choice in player.

There are so many contradictory comments in your posts concerning our debate. I’ve pointed those out as best I can but we all have our own opinions.

You’ve been watching Everton too long!  This is not something we should do and I’m thankful that it’s very unlikely Emery will do this…I could see Everton doing this as I’ve said before with them already bidding for Gnonto and them liking ManU players, and Adams is a Dyche type player.  Hopefully we are aiming higher.

Everton has absolutely nothing to do with it. Named players imo are plenty good enough unless you’re suggesting Pochettino likes the type of player Dyche would buy?

Sure he’s good defensively but terrible with the ball at his feet we need technical players who can play out of the back. These are Everton esq signings as there’s no resale value in any of them bar Gnonto .

He isn’t terrible with the ball at his feet. Far from it but Emery wants a holding RB and Wan-Basaka is perfect for that. Re-sale value on both Adams and Gnonto. Wan-Basaka would fix a weakness in the first team for seasons to come so why would you want to sell him?

That’s the type of moves that got Everton into so much trouble.

Nonsense. Adams, Gnonto and Wan-Basaka are Premiership ready while a lot of Everton’s signings were not.

Adams can play at RB plus as a DM and is pacey. Perfect squad addition. As previously pointed out by another poster it’s not unusual for a player to refuse selection to force a move. Gnonto would be a vast improvement on Bailey. Wan-Basaka is one of the best defensive RBs in the Premiership, is much better defensively than Cash which is exactly what Emery wants for that position.

There are no excuses the players could come up with to excuse that shower, they played like they were still on holiday in America.

It's no good saying that this player or that player had a good pre season so they deserved to get picked, the pre season games were mostly a joke, having 20 players from a team take part in a game turns it into a kick about.

There is no point in having some great summer signings and then starting with the same players in the team that were consistantly useless last season.

There were players who should no have been in the starting 11.

I believe if Emery had put Pau and Tieleymans on from the start they would have gave their all to impress. Can anyone even suggest they would have been worse than Bailey. Cash and a few others.

    Pretty much this.

A terrible day compounded by a bad injury to Mings.

Newcastle are everything to hate about football. Horrible fans with horrible owners but doing well because of greed and human rights abuses.

That’s so not true. Newcastle have a very good coach who has bought well and knew how to blow Villa’s high line apart.

We don't have a best XI.  We have a best XVI.  We are pretty close to having a best XX.  Our best XI will vary week by week, match by match depending on who we are playing and whether we are home / away.  Which is exactly the way it should be.  A couple of signings (and we're pretty much all talking about exactly the same positions) and we'll have an entire bench that could all be considered players good enough to start.  I'm sure we'll all still have our favourites / fall-guys but the gap between our starting XI, match-day squad and even the back-up squad players is really beginning to close.

When you factor in the amount of games if Villa progress in Europe then the difference needs to close more. If it doesn’t then Villa will be treading in treacle by Christmas.

It’s lot a of money… Brighton have a habit of selling for multiple millions every season and finding someone just as good to replace them, whereas we don’t.  Selling Dougie could well be the start of doing that, and to be honest, it’s probably something we need to be able to do. We shouldn’t ever struggle because we sold one player, like we did with Grealish…

If anyone comes in for Luiz and offers 70m I’m sure Emery and the club would bite their hands off!

Grealish was a developing youth player who played around 800 minutes of football and started 9 games.

JWP started every league game for Southampton, was subed once due to injury and only one other time in the 87th minute.

Either you didn't know that which means the comparison is based on lack of knowledge, or you did and you can't see the difference. Which is it?

Confirming that Grealish was part of a relegation team then went to the last game against West Ham to avoid relegation again. Which proves my point that being part of a side that was relegated doesn’t make you a bad player.

That is unless you are blaming Prowse for getting Southampton relegated? In which case I would suggest you look at his stats for last season!
