For those wondering why we need a new left back see this game.  Hutton is fine at defending, and this would be fantastic if we were aiming for a top half finish. However we are not, we are trying to win as many games as possible.  Games like this need another avenue of attack, an overlap with pace and another dangerous outlet.

Is this result his fault, no, did he play badly, again no.  Hes just symptomatic of the tactics we employ...safety first!

If we want to get out of here automatically we need to take the shackles off!

same goes for Tuanzebe at right back for that matter

  3. Going into this game there was a few things that I wanted to see albeit wasn't able to watch the game so using this thread as gospel:

    • Win                                                                   ✅
    • Tuanzebe play CB                                          ✅
    • youngsters/ fringe players game time       ✅
    • rest key player                                                ✅   and    ❎    both Jack and Kodj were needed to come on, although leaning to a tick as Kodj may have gotten some confidence from his display
    • no injuries                                                       ✅
    • De Laet play at RB                                         ✅

Not too fussed about anything else, I think bringing in a new LB and striker by the end of the loan window and potentially a new winger are high on Steve's priority

I'll always try to add a bigger sign on fee / agent fee and crank up the min release clause if it seems obvious they won't sign without one.

Maybe offer in some incentives too, like wages after international games, or a bonus if you reach the FA Cup Semi. Spread it around.

@Skills You managed to try the tactic yet?

yeah got it and worked well for probably the first 10 or so games... then hit a massive wall lol

  5. Great result and all that and thought it was quite comfortable without really getting out of second gear, thought Grealish was closely watched and hacked by their captain

bit surprised that Steer was voted motm by a few here, imo he was at fault for the goal and the great save that he did pull off in the second half was offside anyways.  Not convinced by him and wouldn't be surprised if we do bring in Nyland to be no. 1

By the reaction from Bruce when Kodjia did not pass to Elmo on that counter attack, we'll definitely bring in another attacker. It's a real shame to see him put in a performance like that continuing on from last season

Im more convinced than ever that we cant have Whelan (or Jedi) in the starting line up, he gave us nothing up until we scored the second goal. When Hull started pushing on a bi for an equaliser, his last 20 mins was immense defensively.  Id still prefer we started with a ball playing midfielder instead

It's irrelevant if they are 30 or 29. The point is he signed a lot of players who have little to no sell on value. Also the ones Bruce did sign with sale value are worth less than we paid as he never plays them. Everything he does squashes the smallest shoots of growth in the club. He is like a dementor from Harry Potter ?

In hindsight, I would have thought it was blaringly obvious why we couldn't bring in anyone with resale value last season without selling our valuable players first...

Expect  Whelan to get the nod over Jedinak. Bruce has given us enough clues in pre season over formation. Hopefully it will be Adomah and not Green playing wing back but I won’t hold my breath ?

something just doesn't seem right about this line up....

Just something I was thinking about today, but does anyone else get the feeling that this season is a bit of a write off for Sawaris and Edens?

If they don’t invest this year, but remain competitive then next year they can spend more as that first year of Dr’s splurge will be off the three year FFP schedule.

Might explain them not spending too much now... it’s a rebuild year?

I think you're on to something and I kinda get the same vibe.

Keeping Bruce on justifies this sort of thinking but still gives us a realistic chance of promotion with very little change to the playing staff

See if that works. Never used mediafire before but should be able to download the tactic. Paste into folder C:Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2017\tactics

On both tactics you definitely want to set the opposition player tactics so you always close down the attacking players, so ST, AM, WM and WBs. Stacked middle? Change instructions from exploit middle to exploit wide. Apart from that there isn't much to it. Just get the tactic familiarity up. Pre-season is a good start to get your players familiar with it, changing mid-way through season might give you some loses if its wildly different from your current one.

cheers mate. Will definitely give it a shot

Someone explain why we’re getting excited over Tommy Abraham, who only scored 5 in 31 apps for Swansea last year?

5 goals is what Hogan and Kodjia mustered up last season....    in a lower division!

Used to live in Shrewsbury and went to quite a lot of games. Ryan woods played pretty much every game from 2013-15.

Woods is a quality player, and exactly what we need. He picks the ball up off the defence (composed under pressure) and immediately looks for a forward pass. Any sort of possession or passing rhythm will run through him.

you pretty much defined what Lansbury used to do at Forrest.  Problem is we prefer to have either Whelan or Jedi in that role who are better suited without the ball.

If we do get Woods in, who does he replace?
