Villa Park looks beautiful

This thread has taken a glorious turn for the better this last week
I’m still not 100% confident they will go, just need one final plunge to get it round the bend now. Then we get to witness small heath’s rise to the top to claim the biggest club in town, the 60k £3bn seat master plan, but in League One

Really looking forward to this, Lille are a decent side and we are somewhat short on numbers, but we still have quality throughout the team. Lille are no mugs and playing well in Ligue 1, but we are also 5th in a much stronger league. We are no mugs either. I hope we go for it tonight and look to blow them away. I’m not expecting anything from the Arsenal game so if prefer we give this rare European QF our full attention.

Casemiro should have been sent off for that. Liverpool really f******d that up, they should have been clear and free by half time. Seems it’s not just Villa who can mess things up when in cruise control.
Man U now 11 points behind us, the same number of points between us and Arsenal. They won’t be catching us.

Go on Salah la!

Flukey clearings in the woods again!!

I didn’t get to watch the game, but have seen the goals now. The defensive collapses are concerning for sure but we’re still in a good position overall. I’d have preferred to have not lost Dougie for Arsenal away, and I can’t see us getting anything there, but you never know. We need a reaction and we need to cut the lapses out. Great to see Watkins get two and a nice finish from Rogers.

I'm waiting for the "5 years ago we were drawing away at millwall" posts that always come randomly to justify a horrific result
Actually five years ago today we had just won 1-3 at Hillsborough with Adomah and Tammy scoring very late goals. It was the middle of the ten game winning run.

I was more than happy for us to qualify for Europe again in any format. Consistent euro qualification is massive if we want to sustain our success, I just didn’t ever expect it would/could be champions league this season. Unai is God!

Terrible news, whatever the issue is I hope they can get him sorted for next season. Sounds like he might need further surgery.

Chelsea are only five points behind Man United now, and with a game in hand. They could conceivably overtake them for the Europa or Conference League spot. I’d rather neither of them play in Europe tbh but if it’s got to be one then we may as well enjoy the United collapse.

Couldn’t have happened to a better team. They’ve been doing that to teams for decades.

Looks a bit like it might be Rogers?
It’s Rogers’ Todgers, squirrel removal services.

That lad Phil Foden is pretty good.
He is a quality player, but still looks like he’d try and start a fight with you for your trainers down the park.

There was so much to get annoyed about last night, not least the amount they went on about Man City’s much changed side but barely mentioned ours, just that Watkins and McGinn would be a big miss. It’s almost like they don’t even know the Villa squad and who normally plays.
I’m coming round to just ignoring the commentary, punditry and post match analysis now. It’s clearly designed to appeal to global fans of the ‘big six’, and really only those with a passing interest. There’s never any balance, and never any insightful analysis. It’s not designed for people like me, and like MOTD it’s basic as feck.

Like Emery just said, we forget tonight now and move on to the very much winnable games coming up. We are in fourth and in a good place generally with players to come back in with some energy in reserve for the run in.
-
He’s adapting to the pace of the premier league and improving the more he plays. He’s got plenty of room to grow, good player.

Olsen was decent tonight, made some brilliant saves, claimed the ball well from set pieces and played out from the back calmly. More than capable as back up to the rarely missing Martinez.

Funny hearing McMoist saying Duran should do better. No acknowledgment that he’s not long turned 20 and in his first season in the league. Thought he did well today, the finish was excellent, he’s already a premier league player and should improve plenty.
