Villa fans: “Why don’t we do what Brighton do, and sign young hidden gems, and turn them into PL stars”

Also Villa fans: “Why are we signing these young inexperienced players, when our rivals are signing Timo Werner”

I've never seen him play, I don't know if he's any good, but i'm really angry about us trying to sign him.

He isn't much better than Aaron Ramsey, put a fit Aaron Ramsey in the Championship and he would be one of the best attackers in that league, I think some have forgotten, how good he is just because it hasn't gone well at Burnley, playing in struggling team, and injuries, or didn't realize how good he was to begin with.

That said in saying he's not better than Aaron Ramsey I don't mean it as a criticism of him, he's probably on a similar level, with similar potential, and as such would be a good project player for the squad, we obviously aren't trying to sign him to come into the first team and make a big difference straight away, so not sure why he's being compared to Werner.

And if we can't get him I doubt we will go for Reyna instead, as that's not the profile we want, or seemingingly want, it will be another with a similar profile to Rogers, the likes of Summerville, Jonathan Rowe, and Illng Jr have been linked

There's a lesson to be learned in this when it comes to judging some of our youngsters, the fact that Emery wants Rogers, someone who had a few quiet seasons, and had been somewhat forgotten about after being so highly rated, shows young players shouldn't be written off too quickly.

I think you're saying he's not much better than Aaron Ramsey and also isn't much better than Aaron Ramsey. But i'd like to really know is he better than Aaron Ramsey?

Meanwhile Morgan Rogers has 2 goals in 25 Championship games 😂

he's a winger not a striker, it's like comparing apples to oranges but if it makes you happy

no idea if he's any good either, just calling out piffle

last season he hit double figures in a league season, we had Samatta, Wesley and Borja Baston up front

when you say last season, i don't think you mean last season, you mean he once did this in Germany

  5. Whether it be from injuries/suspensions etc, we have just looked really unbalanced all over the pitch, we are also very slow and frustrating to watch at times, I get drawing players out of position but half the time it has no affect and teams just pull all their men back and double up on the wings.

I also notice that if players are moving forwards and get fouled we get free kicks but if our plays are clattered down in our own half as a result of pressing, no matter if it is a foul or not we never get anything, it's like possession won from the press has no rules. Probably not just us either.

I would love to know who put Diaby to sleep for the last 4 months.

he just seems to drift into the middle or in the same space as Bailey, he needs to go left or wide right and switch with Bailey like he did the first handful of times he played with Bailey, he looks good when he gets on the ball in the final third.

I mentioned it a and got shot down.  I think the FIFA generation look at anyone over 27 who's not Linford Christie (Google it) as totally useless.

I think he could do a job as cover at CM and would be positive for the dressing room.  I'd only be behind it if we could do it on the cheap though

I am not the FIFA generation and I confirm I don't look at anyone over 27 who is not Linford Christie as totally useless.

But I can confirm Henderson is totally useless and an utter asshat to boot. I'd rather have Glenn Whelan back at current age.

The club are pretty good at keeping a tight lid on things these days. Of we sign someone good chance it will.be completely out of the blue.

2 or 3 signings. You're having a laff. The team was tired because December was a busy month. They've 2 PL games in all of January plenty of time to recuperate.

Buying the right players in January is difficult and we definitely don't need to go and overpay for someone. We have no clear gaps in the squad.

We might move on Traore and Chambers of we can get replacements

Goalkeeper? There can't be a single one of us that doesn't yell out in terror when we see Olsen on a team sheet, even if he has definitely improved of late.

Also if Watkins got injured could Duran step up? Not seen much evidence he is ready for that yet, he's never looked that good when he's started.

Could Zaniolo play that role? I don't think so personally but who knows

Diaby and Bailey don't have the physical presence to play the lone forward.

  10. I don't understand why recently him and Bailey seem to be playing in the same space and areas, whereas previously when they played together one was on the left and one on the right, but now with a utterly ineffective Ramsey back on the right we seem completely unbalanced.

Pretty much this. Teams only sign players in January if desperate or the selling club is desperate

Good well run teams dont do this

2023 Jan transfers to name but a few

    Spurs: Pedro Porro
    Arsenal: Trossard, Jorginho
    Wolves: Matheus Cunha
    Forest: Danilo
    Newcastle: Anthony Gordon
    Liverpool: Cody Gakpo

    All desperate poorly run clubs.

  12. I think it's hard to deny that whist our first eleven can beat most teams in the league. As soon as just a couple of players are unavailable we start to struggle and at the moment that will be the difference between us finishing in the top 4 and not.

The big teams in the top 6 often manage to make big signings in January when needed, so we have to think like they do, not saying we spank 100 mil on one player but a couple of signings shouldn't be out of reach.

We seem to buy proven big name talent these days mostly, whereas I hope we fish out a few bargains and develop some overseas talent, think i'd rather have potential than dead wood in the squad. Buying young players potential in January feels a lot easier than buying ready made solutions also. But having said that now we have the set up we do, getting some high quality players from the Spanish league seems more feasible now. Look at Moreno.

It's frustrating Tielemans was starting to become a key player before injury. Zaniolo has showed signs of life. But Ramsey needs to be benched and give time off the bench till he gets his confidence back as he offers nothing at the moment. But as many have covered 100s of times in this thread we need more cover for Watkins and at right back at the bare minimum.
