100% this.  A more sulky player, you will not meet.  If he spent more time on his feet instead of feigning injury, I'd have more respect for him.  Not what we are looking for at all.

During the lap of appreciation after the game he must have let about eight penalties in a row in against Tyrone Mings, Emi Buendia and Ashley Young's kids.   No offence to anybody but the kids were probably all still at primary school and quite frankly he should have been saving the lot of them.  I say we sell him in the summer.

This is what happens when you change the rules of penalty taking for keepers.  Bloody useless!

  3. Will always be remembered for the Championship play-offs and the part he played.  I hope he gets picked up by another team, really quickly and gets to play a lot.  Fantastic servant to the club, I wish him well.

  4. Hopefully, we built in a clause in the contract that they have to buy him if they got promoted.  Marvellous was never quite good enough for the level but might be useful for a team who have just come up because he has a bit more experience than any of their players.  Great to see him doing well for them.  If we can get three million, I'd be happy.

I'm not sure he does, really.  Maybe for a newly promoted side, but we're talking about a guy who is about to turn 25 here - not some 21 year old with a load of potential.  Maybe he kicks on rapidly after two good seasons, but he's not the kind of player we should be looking at.  Far too risky.

Absolutely.  The player we are looking for is an upgrade to Ollie, or at the very least, someone who is interchangeable with him, not that I am advocating that we get rid of Ollie, but we need someone already tried and tested, not someone we have to wait for, or hope that they will make the mark in the Premier league.   Worth a gamble, yes, but we need bigger and better players if we want to trouble the top 6.  The clubs Gyokeres is being linked to are nothing special.

City scored more goals last season and the top scorer only got 15 league goals

It's a good point but Pep Guardiola recognised this and went out and signed Haaland.   Hopefully, the likes of Alemany can find our own gems.  I am not comparing Ollie to anyone else, he's been great this season but to finish higher, we are going to need more goals from a range of positions.

This 20 goals a season nonsense is a thing from the past. This season only Haaland and Kane have managed it. Toney has half his goals from the Penalty spot so he's not a 20 a season in real terms.

Salah is on 19 goals. Watkins on 14.

What we need is more from his strike partner up top and goals from a bench option to come on.

If you take away the goals from the players you mention, Man City, Spurs and Liverpool don't finish where they are currently.  The point is, we need a top goalscorer, Watkins is a 10 to 15 per season scorer, as we know.  We may need our own version of Salah, Haaland or Kane.  We also need more of the midfielders to chip in with even more goals, that is the only way in which we can afford Ollie to be a 10 to 15 a season striker.

  8. We need someone to hit 20 goals a season if we want top 6.  I'm not saying Ollie can't do that but I'm not sure he's a natural goalscorer.  He's been brilliant since Emery came in and hopefully isn't the finished article.

    Spurs fans want him.... 🤣

As if he would ever leave here to join that dumpster fire.

I am genuinely surprised that he hasn't been officially linked with either Tottenham or Chelsea as yet.  He is likely to be better or as good as anything either of them end up with.  I am very pleased he's ours.

Ugarte and Kamara would be a reasonable midfield combination

Would be such a solid base from which to move the other midfielders around them.   Luiz could also play further forward.

Not quite as simple as that though.

Smith was giving him minutes, Gerrard had literally no idea how to set a midfield up. And by the time Emery came in, his confidence and fitness was likely shot.

If he was any good, Emery would have rebuilt that confidence, just like he has with Mings, McGinn etc.  The only real surprise for me is that we didn't bring in another midfielder to replace him.

  12. I think it's very telling that Dean Smith, Steven Gerrard AND Unai Emery didn't use him widely.  Clearly an issue with him.  I trust Emery to bring players on, improve them, but the fact that he went the same way as his predecessors makes me think that the problem definitely lies with the player.  Sell him, agree a pay off, whatever.  He's finished at Villa.
