On this day in 1992, Villa played their first match in the newly-formed FA Premier League.

Dalian Atkinson had the distinction of scoring our first Premier League goal, his late equaliser earning a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The two subsequent home games also ended 1-1 – with Atkinson scoring against both Leeds United and Southampton.

Sorry all, next time I'll produce my own infographic rather than relying on something I found on the internet, I though I would post for info rather than accuracy of scale

Anyway it was from the Sun so I guess you won't be too surprise.... And before anyone starts slating me for being on the sun site, I only happened on there as response to a question that came up in another thread.....

    I don't think that's true.

I don't think VAR looks at fouls unless they're a potential red card or they're in the penalty area. Doesn't matter if it leads to a goal.

Happy to be corrected, that's just from memory.

All though we seem to be veering OT

I was looking into this a little earlier before coming into this thread.

When can VAR be used in Premier League games?

VAR will be used in all 360 Premier League matches this season.

It will only be used for incidents involving:

    • each goal scored
    • each penalty awarded
    • each straight red card shown
    • cases of mistaken identity

The technology cannot be used to advise on:

    • yellow cards, including second yellows
    • potential fouls in ordinary open play
    • to decide on corner or throw-in awards.

VAR can also alert officials of incidents of foul play missed by a referee, such as an off-the ball incident.

Apologies it's the Sun but an okay article on it...

I’m intrigued how you know how many there were ?

I know they go on throughout the game and we don’t get to hear about most of them...and I saw one at the ground but had no idea what it was for....which I now think is what you refer to as the McGinn one but wasn’t in the least clear at the time...but how do you discover the total checks ?

    Tottenham 3-1 Aston Villa

    Seven checks, no overturned decisions

The incident: John McGinn goes down in the Tottenham box as Danny Rose races in to stop him shooting. Chris Kavanagh says no penalty and VAR agrees.

Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher's verdict: "McGinn just pushed the ball a bit too far in front of him and then barged into Rose. No penalty."

The incident: McGinn is involved again. Kyle Walker-Peters is furious after he thinks he gets a boot on the floor from the Villa midfielder, but a quick VAR check says no red card.

Gallagher's verdict: "This was a check just to make sure nothing untoward had happened. It was a tangle between the players but no red card offence."

Okay, i really want the PL patches so I’m going to crowdsource this and give it our best guess. I’m 5’10” (178 cm) and have a 41” chest (104 cm). A large retro shirt fits me well. Stick with the large or go up to XL?

same as me, size wise, I went for an XL after reading the size guide and getting the tape measure out, and it’s okay (although I would like a little more breathing space but that is my personal choice) my pot belly doesn’t stick out anymore than a generic large sized t-shirt does, seems a little long below the waist though

Arsenal stars Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac 'are under 24 hour guard' and will miss today's match after being targeted in London gang war by thugs who have told them: 'We'll rob you of everything'

Security guards are stationed outside the north London homes of footballers Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac today, as the Arsenal pair remain under 24-hour watch after being caught up in a vicious gang war.

A North London gang has reportedly vowed to take 'everything they have' from the players, despite - or perhaps due to - warnings from a rival Eastern European mob that the pair are 'off limits'.

The gang feud began when the stars were targeted by car-jackers in north London last month.

They were ambushed by robbers as Ozil left his £3million home in a black Mercedes G-Class and chased through the mansion-lined streets of north London in a high-speed pursuit as attackers pelted the car with roof tiles to try and break the rear window.

Extraordinary security camera footage showed Kolasinac - nicknamed the Tank -  confronting and facing down the offenders as they approached the car.

According to reports angry Eastern European gangsters offended by the incident put out word that the footballers were not to be touched, but rival underworld figures then ramped up their threats, promising to take 'everything they have' from the pair.

I had a look at Stoke's Twitter feed yesterday and same thing. Some villa "fans" , " you've got yourself a great player in Hogan, never really given a chance under Bruce " Do these same fans realise Dean Smith's been the manager since October. Kinda past the sell by date to keep peddling that line.

Sorry didn’t know how to react to this so gave the confused reaction.

Over the few years that I’ve been on here, how many times, when there has been a rumour of one of our ‘what has been perceived/evidenced as a ‘complete/total/partial dog shit’ players been sarcastically big’ed up for any visiting/guest fan to read and cream over.

We are in a rather, I don’t know how to describe it other than ‘safe zone’ to a point where the we are protected except from the occasional troll, where as Twitter is open season.

But anyway you did highlight ‘fans’

  9. I feel bad for posting in the Chant thread after the Charlton friendly, I thought it was funny at the time, on retrospect it was inevitable though. Good Luck to him and hopefully he can step up his game otherwise another ex villa prospect not quite good enough

    why.

    a BANDAGE.

    on his hand.

    ALL THE TIME!

    does he think its cool?

Does he think its a fashion statement?

Does he not think he might look like a tool?

We should sack any player who wears a Michael Jackson bandage glove thing for.......any other reason than medical.

its something a 10 year old might do cus it looks "dope", something they grow out of at 14 when their mates start laughing at them.

(redacted if its something medical, sustained if its as above)........

To begin with I thought this was the beginnings of a chant suggestion but then you lost me,

    Sorry

  11. Anyway, training top fit - I’m usually a M/L depending on the cut/make, this is (XL) feels a little tight but considering what others have said I’m not overly surprised, seems a little long in the body for me as I’m just under 6ft but  not as tight around the arms (not a gym goer), but all in all not bad, sponsor logo looks like it could come off after a couple of washes though )maybe the way it way folded 🤷‍♂️) which maybe not a bad thing for some....

F***ing Hermes, ordered a training top yesterday morning (next day delivery) in the hope to have it for Saturday but also have input to this conversation. But no, bunch of words removed, saw the tracker update ‘Delivery attempt made....’ F@&£ off I’ve been home all day and not heard a squeak....

Update for anyone interested - received an email from Hermes with a picture of the delivery driver, the same person as yesterday’s email. I was nearing home and I spotted some punk that looked similar coming out of a van with one of those mesh back packs, waited (10-15 mins) for them to return to the van, finally got the parcel rather than wait for them to say no one was home ( there was a longer version to this story but thought why bother)

Hermes are shocking .. delivered a load of Lego to the wrong address for us we had to claim another lot back.

Not my first negative experience with these muppets unfortunately... wish I knew it was going to be them delivering before paying for the order....

Totally agree if I had known it was going to be them delivering I would have just got the train from London and bought it at the club shop...

Who’s that oaf in a white shirt standing right next to the camera. Someone tell him to go home, the match is on YouTube.

edit - Bugger missed the goal

  17. I know this is only a pre-season friendly but I'm looking forward to this game (I joined signed up for the Claret Membership to ensure I got a ticket (still 24 left by the way)), I don't often get to see the Villa in the flesh, and I used to go to the Valley many years ago when I worked with a Charlton Fan, and the caretaker at my kids' primary school used to get cheap tickets. Last time I saw the Villa at the Valley (at with the home crowd) was the 2-1 defeat (The Barry Game score a penalty and then got sent off) and I would like to have to opportunity to give him as much $hi+ as possible, even though that was over 13 years ago.
