Scottish schools returned a couple of weeks ago, I believe there is a school in Dundee where something like 39 cases have been identified, mostly among the teachers, which would suggest either the teachers are all touching each other, or the problem with kids is that they can be carriers.

twitter says 39, NHS Tayside says 34, you pays your money and takes your choice

Thanks for the reply, interesting reading. I guess we wait for the outcome in Scotland and then change the advice again to suit

Do you live in an affluent area then?

I do thank you. In fact, Solihull has the highest number of millionaires outside of London!

We have a magnificent aray of golf courses to cater for all abilities. You should try it, you never know, you might like it 😏

    Toodle pip!!

You realise that this wasn't normal 35-40 to a class schooling?

I do yes. In my area there were perhaps 70 - 80 children in the primary school and about 150 in the senior school. Most of the parents of these children are doctors and nurses ( Solihull is an affluent area after all). These are the people who will be massively exposed to the virus day after day. And yet there was no spike in either of the schools. Indeed, there didn't appear to be any transmission at all.

Maybe things will change, but children should absolutely be back at school, if only for their mental health!

You mean in the schools that have basically been shut for the last 5 months? How could there be any?

And in the schools that were open for all the children of the key workers?

Schools are safe, because Boris has declared it so. Sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers, with no PPE for 6 hours a day. It's fine.

Shops? No, no, masks are essential. But schools are fine. The virus doesn't go in to schools. You trust your government don't you? they have your best interests at heart, certainly.

Whatever you do, do not visit your friends at home, it is NOT SAFE. But schools are fine. Trust us. Wear a mask at work. But stop worrying about schools, they're fine, it's all safe.

Has there been any reports of spikes in schoools? Is there lots of evidence of children infecting each other and bringing it home to their parents? I'm genuinely interested

Also, think of all the lovely new habitat which'll be created on the old lines :D

There's hardly any "ancient" woodland left in the UK - only 14 are larger than 500 acres in the entire country.  Everything you usually see is plantation (and so re-doable).

    It's all an illusion.

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh,  aaaah, illusion

Absolutely no need for this level of aggression, considering the very open, honest and emotional nature of Straggler's post.

because he's quoting something that's blatantly untrue. It's a bit like the debate that was had years ago when you coul buy a CDR for less than £1 and burn an album, so why were record companies charging £15 for a compact disc? It bears no resemblance to the actual cost of making the album. And therefore the $1 pricetag is bollocks!

    But you know that

I’m deliberately going out for something to eat on the other days, I’d rather pay double the price to sit in relative comfort than have to deal with a load of divs desperate to save a tenner on a meal out.

Maybe you're going to the wrong places. I've not encountered any of the problems you seem to have in the small independent places I've used. But then you will go to KFC 😂

A small example of the sort of thing we will need to get used to.

My mother in law was an American. She died of cancer. It took 2 years of treatment before she passed away and with her life she lost her family home and everything she owned. Her husband was evicted on behalf of the insurers within a year of her death. She had decent insurance too, but cancer = bankruptcy for almost any normal person if you are unfortunate enough to survive for long enough regardless of insurance.

If we go down this route I'm moving to Scotland and voting for independence.

How much did it actually cost to develop? How many people were involved in the development, and how long did it take to develop ?

As usual someone on Twitter with absolutely no idea spouts some bollocks. But hey, it fits the narative so it's all good.

On Pointless in the final round, when the one who admits they know nothing about the subject but the other person does, nervously tries to contribute by talking through the other person's thought process. Shut your thick **** face hole.

Bloke in my village was boasting about "winning" pointless. Yes, he got to the final, but he was absolutely useless! They lucked out every round and he didn't contribute anything in the final at all.

  11. Don't use chains, try to find little indies that will need the money more than Costa or maccys! They are out there!

Also,if you have one, AMEX are doing a thing called shop local. You spend a tenner, and they give you a fiver back! And again there are loads of little indies on the scheme

I know it wasn't directed to me but my answer is that I'm not averse to wearing a mask in the current situation (I certainly wouldn't want it to become an ingrained thing, however) - indeed I bought a pack of disposable ones from the Co-op last week in preparation for them making it compulsory - but I do think the whole message around them is very, very confused.

You have the questions as posed above - how about in pubs/restaurants? If not (for the practical reasons) then why does that outweigh the public health reasons for compulsion elsewhere? And also, how about workplaces like offices? Will they/should they not be compulsory in those environments?

Are the government actually bringing it in as a public health measure or are they brining it in for economic reasons, i.e. as a psychological reassurance to people to get out and 'shop'?

If the latter then it may well work but it also brings with it the risk of a lackaidaisical attitude towards the wider risks ('I've got a mask on therefore I'm safe' or 'Only compulsory in shops so it's only shops that are a risk'). It also ignores the idea that it may well put people off from 'popping' in to a shop to casually buy something (I wouldn't be using a one-off disposable mask to go and buy a pint of milk) or leave those small, local shops at risk of not enforcing the mask-wearing and is the corner shop where you want people to be failing to observe this if it's for public health reasons?

My wife bought some from some place called "mipha moon". Yeah, I've got no idea either! Anyway, they are fabric and washable and they are not uncomfortable to wear. I've got a couple in the van which I use at work or to go to the shops to get lunch or stuff. I've had a couple of nice comments about them too!

Remember a couple of months back when kids could ride their bikes in the street and you could hear birds in the trees.

    Good that, wasn’t it?

No! Get back to school you lazy slobs!

    Not really 😏

Never got to see Oasis live but saw  both of them live as solo artists ... both were shit

sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of the parts I guess

Erm, no. They were shit. Travis, on the other hand, were absolutely brilliant. In hindsight, we should have left after they finished.

The only memory I have of that night is the whole of the floor of the NIA bouncing up and down during 'Why does it always rain'!

    Oasis, thanks, but no thanks

  16. Funny you should say that. I'm in Torquay at the moment, been out in the town and went for a lovely meal and I'm not seeing the scenes you've posted at all. People are being sensible and spacing themselves as well as they can. Maybe later when they are pissed it'll change, but they mainly seem to be young (to be fair, I'm that old everyone else seems young).

  17. Some absolutely amazing mussels in "On the Rocks ' in Torquay. Drove down today, stopped for breakfast at Gloucester south, everyone was being sensible, socially distancing. Really well thought out.

Torquay is busy, but again where we are people are being sensible about it.

It's so good that we've booked for tomorrow night as well!!

Yep very much business as usual from Mercedes as was unfortunately expected, last season was just a complete bore fest because of Mercedes dominance.

Still it makes people take more interest in the middle of the pack.

Regardless of the mess that Ferrari are in it was still a shock to see Ze German go out in Q1.

    Funny though!!!!

Yep. They simply weren't readily available until quite recently. I finally got a home-made face covering because some woman in the village was making them and giving them away. Still in a minority in the supermarket on my weekly shop, but on my last trip to Morrisons I noticed they were selling manufactured ones at the checkouts, but in such a low-key display that I almost missed them. Why on earth don't they have them at the doors when you go in? Either to insist, or at least encourage you to use one?

Get yourself back down to Asda Minworth (I know it's a long way). As you walk into the shop, they are right there in a big box!
