I've sat through worse shit than currently on offer, much worse and will still go if we serve up shit next year too.

Which 3 year period was as bad as the last 3 for home supporters?

When we we shit back in the 60's - we were shit struggling home and away, got relegated then relegated again to division 3. The low points of seeing a once great club torn apart and struggling to survive, Well before your time BJ mate, but I assure you it was shit back then - but we bounced back.

  2.

Just to clarify, this isn't a "better fan than you" post, but :

Can I just ask some of the lambert apologists, do you go to the games, particularly at home ? Do you shell out the dollars to watch the shite being dished up week after week, do you sacrifice hours of your weekends to trudge down to villa park in all sorts of weather , knowing in the back of your mind how inept it's going to be. Do you sit there in the cold watching 11 players going through the motions, looking to the bench for guidance, leadership and motivation and getting no return ?

Or do you watch streams , slam the laptop shut after another defeat and get straight back on GTA ? (No offence to GTA)

I think it's far easier to be patient with lambert and his cronies if it's the latter.

I'm a season ticket holder and have been for the last 15 years bar one season, next?

Me too fan 53 odd years season ticket holder near on 40 years - I've sat through worse shit than currently on offer, much worse and will still go if we serve up shit next year too.

I suppose I'm just a sheep and falling for the club's PR and am a Lambert apologist/supporter or a Lerner apologist/supporter?

No I think I'm a FAN a SUPPORTER who supports the TEAM regardless of the manager/chairman/quality of football. That is because that is what we do we support. We  may not like what is served or what is happening. Who says we can't still be happy supporting the team. I am and always will REGARDLESS

AND before ANYONE says anything - I'm NOT a better fan than any other. Just that I am old enough to know what real shit football and shit managers and chairman are - seen enough of them since 1962 at Villa and THIS is not as bad as it has been.

  3. I think sacking Lambert would be a huge mistake and will come back to haunt us (Joe Mercer).

I wonder how many of the "younger" ones on here would know about Joe Mercer and the Mercer Minors in our history - our decline started around the time Joe left (was sacked) and the mercer minors dismantled I believe. That is if my old brain can recollect correctly.

  4. Now THAT is a real footballer - not the naby pamby fall down roll over 20 times at the slightest knock. He could take a crunching tackle (and give it). Was honoured to see him play for the Villa - although we had started our descent to the lower echelons. Our problems today are nothing compared to what we were going through then.

RIP big man - another honourary Holtender in the Sky!!

A window that made Doug look generous and if you're not happy you're told to go and support another team. Haha how things change after a free scarf and a coach journey.

I said it earlier, one massive positive is that this could signal end of Lerner coming soon.

Edit - never mind. You're not worth the stress.

Enjoy the rest of the season blow job.

I think he'd prefer Lerner to call a massive press conference - bring all the top reporters and come out and .................................................

Tell them that 'I've got  piece of paper here with names of the TYPE of players I am looking for (note I and not the manager)' and show them names like Batistuta and the like. An then do - F**k all. (just like Lerner in some peoples eyes)

And I know this actually happened.

What a man he was that Doug - he saved us single handedly you know back in 68.  ;)

Yea god knows what the thought was on bringing him....... unless it was yea were going to come in for lots of criticism lets get someone they hate so they aim it at him.

Because after McLeish we were willing to accept pretty much anything, as it is "better than McLeish" just as we accept Lerner because he is "better than Doug".

Tell ya what - I'd have accepted that tramp found under the Holte End way back instead of that old t***pot Ellis - at least the tramp loved Villa so much he lived at the ground! :P

This is the problem - and don't get me wrong, I would rather hold my nuts over a lit candle than take Ellis back - but this doesn't make Lerner a good chairman, he is failing the club and has been failing the club since he set foot through the door and thought a "Leeds type" throw your money at it plan was the best way forward. It has been problem after problem since.

Mate I didn't say Lerner is a good chairman - I'm dissapointed in him I really am but just wanted to get that dig into Ellis as I relish any chance I can and I have personal reasons for that which a few people on here know what they are!

I don't blame you mate, the guy held us back for two decades.  :thumb:

(And that is without the bullshit we put up with!)

You and me on same wavelength!  :thumb:

It might sound a bit mental, but Cameron being a Villa fan, a club with the potential to be amongst the elite but in dire need of investment, would have almost certainly came up if this guy is looking to get into football.

Not that anyone of sound judgement should listen to David Cameron. Just saying, we were probably mentioned.

Thing is he's not a villa fan. It pArt of his man of the people bullshit

How do you figure? Pretty sure if he wanted to pretend to support a football team to connect with the public he'd choose a more popular team.

Wasn't his uncle a club secretary or some nonsense. Have vague recollections of reading that about our Tarquin.
Something like that. I don't know why people try and deny that Cameron is a Villa fan. Admittedly he's probably played it up since becoming PM but that's about it.
His UNCLE was Sir William Dugdale - Chairman of Aston Villa after our saviour (Puke) and hero of some Doug Ellis. He attended games with his Uncle so I think it is possible he is a Villa Fan (regardless if he attends or not) just like many on here who don't attend for whatever reason

He still is Cameron's uncle. You make it sound like he's dead

LOL - Yeah it does doesn't it mate - well i'm 56 this year so he must be in his 80's/90's !!!

he took pressure off them by communicating with us. HH should have got a payrise not sacked.

There is communication and then there is communication. The club would never allow leaking team lineups or transfer targets to anyone - it just undermines our position.

Having said that, it would be nice if the club did communicate on some things - such as plans for the first team/club/stadium and the like.

They do. Faulkner does. Nobody listens and nobody cares.

When they do they call it PR BS and lies anyway!

  12. I don't think this guy has a very good record for being correct, but these rumors just don't seem to want to go away...

We have tonight learned that should all go according to plan #avfc will be sold come the summer

#avfc have been approached in recent weeks by two parties. One consortium consists of a former member of #avfc staff.

Graduate colleague based at Seymour Pierce (London) says colleagues have been in contact with RL regarding legalities of takeover #avfc

If the last paragraph is correct (Seymour Pierce) then they were the advisors to Randy Lerner when he took over, Keith Harris is the who owns the company I believe who helps with takeovers. They contacted VFC during the the takeover by Lerner. We (VFC) had close contact with them before during and after the takeover.

If this is true then something could happen.

  13. No matter what opinions there are (both sides) the foundations need to be laid and personally I cannot think of any other manager available that can do that with what we have in place as regards finances (for now). Other teams had a foundation (Everton, Southampton, Swansea)and they built on them and the job was much easier for the manager that inherited the job.

We need continuity (players as well as manager)- that's one thing we have not had since Ron Saunders where he had a good while and several overhauls (not vast ones).

Keep the faith - I know I will.

  14. Another absolutely pointless debate going on here.

Whether some like it or not, Holt is for now a Villa player and even though I didn't agree with bringing him in, I will now support him till proved otherwise. Introducing Heskey into the debate is stupid IMO and just shows how far some will go to build up an argument.

This forum is increasingly only about discussing the negatives. Yesterday the first half was the best football Villa have played for a long, long time and we got a point from a top 4 team when many, maybe most of us were expecting Villa to get stuffed.

Yesterday will have had a huge impact on the squads confidence and maybe Holt can help even more to build their confidence simply by being around. I have no idea whether he will contribute significantly on the pitch and have my doubts but yesterday told me very little one way or the other. He obviously isn't part of our long term future plans but if he can help steady the ship or even do as Robbie Keane did and contribute a couple of goals I will be satisfied for now.

Well said Mike - agree wholeheartedly. Confidence is the key and there are so many similarities to last season too.

Keep this going and we can build a foundation where we can now start adding quality to the quantity

  15. Well done Naz, every single lazy cliché blaming the fans in one single post.  Brilliant.

Yeah - I know - So the fans have not played a part? All I read is that if the team gave us something to cheer about then we'd get behind them. I get fed up of reading the holier than thou attitude of some fans (and I'm NOT saying one fan is better than another) - some already have made their minds up about Grant even before he put the shirt on - just like some made up their minds about Benteke when he first came here. At least I'm never a negative so and so - I am an optimist when it comes to Villa - no matter who the manager, player or chairman is. The TEAM have always had my unequivocal support - call it blind faith if you wish. I'll never change my stance or opinion no matter if we play shit or well or inconsistently.

Ah! **** it - the fans are perfect.  I take back every word.

  16.

I've never, ever, ever seen Emile Heskey show any sort of technical ability as per Holt's cute flick against Liverpool. Creating that sort of space for someone to run into alone is valuable enough. I was impressed because I thought he'd be much more immobile.

I love the pointless stat quoting by the way. Did you see that Holt had more touches, won more tackles and committed less fouls than Gabby did against Liverpool?

Not sure they're pointless stats. He's a striker, we need him to be involved, hold up the ball and be a threat. He kept the ball 5 times and won 1 header.
He attempted more passes, had more touches and won more headers than Agbonlahor. Who would you rather have in the side?
Gabby isn't in there to win headers and hold the ball up. He's there to provide an outlet, to take players on and try to create chances.
So Holt offers us something different?
Than gabby? Of course. Did we need something different to gabby? Is that something different better than what gabby offers?
Some games it will be better, some games it won't, its different. He didn't plan to bring him on for gabby yesterday, injury forced it.

He'll win us more points than he'll lose us. I really don't see anything to be negative about the signing.

Not sure how you can say that. The fact we replaced gabby with such an inferior player played a part in us not getting all 3 points.

Whichever of our attackers holt replaces he is an inferior option to them and we are weaker having him on the pitch over any of them. So how can you confidently predict he'll win more points than lose?

Oh! so now he was indirectly the cause that cost us all three points - funny I thought you and many others were confident we wouldn't get a point against Liverpool seeing we are shite.

I am glad that some of you lot re not managing our team and have gained your indepth knowledge from many a computer game that is Championship Manager and the like.

He was not 'fat', 'lazy' blah blah blah. If you lot (not aimed at any individual) seem to know so much - how do you know bringing on someone else would have resulted in a different result?

Oh! I forget - we are all experts in this field - we know how to man manage and motivate - I can see that from where I sit in the upper holte. One of our own make a sloppy pass and the moans go up and the slagging off starts - and don't say it doesn't or you have a right to do so.

The players (manager included) have a duty to perform and we as SUPPORTERS have a duty to encourage support and breed confidence in the players - not moan at every mistake.

Jeez - the positivity didn't last long and reasoned debate for that matter too.

Ready for the flaming because I dared to criticise the fans ( I won't call them supporters because support has a totally different meaning in my dictionary). Iv'e not been a fan personally - I have been a supporter for 53 years

Are you ITK? You talk about opinions as if they're fact.

They must be mate - they surely must know something that we are not privvy to. Seems to be the same line as last season when they were positive Benteke was gonna go and be sold for a pittance because the board have no backbone.

I don't remember many posts like that.

Look back mate - You will fin many posts saying stuff like that!

I dunno, it sounds a bit fishy to me.

LOL - yeah I Cod have spelt it right so I now know my Plaice.

  18.

I don't think this is true but say it was. Why would you have faith in an owner who 100% trusted a man with no football background picking a manager?

    Hmmm, Pochettino, Pellegrini, Rodgers, Mourinho.........

All picked by men with 'no football background'

    Whatever 'football background' is...

They must be experts in Fifa 2014 or Championship Manager. Seems to be the criteria from what I gather reading some of the posts in VT (and other forums) so they must be suitably qualified. :P

So I guess we ended up with houllier and especially McLeish because of the great business minds we have running the club.

Never said they were great mate - but when we did have 'Football people' when your hero (Joking mate just joking) was Chairman we had football people - the man himself Steve Stride and Mark Ansell (and before Ansell) they hired shite in Graham Turner, Billy McNeil etc. so there's no change there. So it's NOT a new phenomenon reserved for Randy and Faulkner

  20. Proof was second half at Arsenal, we can play that way, I just think Lambert does't trust the team.............Yet!

And remember the same time last year against Newcastle (lots of similarities) - 2nd half we passed them off the park but failed to equalise. At that time Benteke had also scored 6 in 16 - scored against Newcastle and we started believing (as well as a change of formation).

What about the first 70 mins against Everton at home - arguably the best we have played. We passed the ball around well then too.

  21. Cowans would have been nothing without Des Bremner, our most under-rated midfield player ever, an absolute trojan, so I thought I'd make sure he got in here !

My favourite - Mortimer with those 'surges'.

BUt my hero - Bruce Rioch 'born is the king of Villa Park'  -remember that ?

Yes mate - I remember him all too well - powerful shot on him - Those were the days ( and the chants) - Willie Willie Willie Willie Anderson...

Andy Andy Lochhead Andy Lochead in the Air!. Pat Pat Pat Pat Pat McMahon Pat McMahon!

Feel sorry for the younger fans - they missed some great times albeit in the lower leagues !
