  1. If / when he adds a scoring touch to his game it will be hard for us to keep hold of him. He does the things that top clubs like in the modern game in that he tracks back without fail

Felt sorry for him last night in the first half as he was struggling to control the long goal kicks again and again due to being man-handled by the Bristol defence. It's also not really his game, he's not a target man and he's better receiving the ball to feet from the midfield.

Did brilliantly to get over the penalty miss and was great in the second half. He's making conscious decisions to pass the ball now and it's bringing other players into the game as we saw for Hourihane's goal.

Might be best to take him off penalty duty now though, I think Hogan, Hourihane, Lansbury and Jedinak have all been penalty takers at some point in time for their past teams. Or we could do the just let Alan Hutton take them until the end of the season to take the roof off Villa Park

Absolutely spot on. The fact that he tweeted about his pass for Hourihane makes me think that he is starting to realise it is a fault and one he accepts. As for AH on Pens I sit behind goal half way up Lower Holte - shall I take a hard hat just in case

It was a shit song to be fair.

If an anthem is going to catch on it has to not have the words 'Aston Villa' in it (cringe), actually make sense ("everybody is knowing to the villa they're going"?!) and not be associated with an absolutely diabolical period in our history.

Best chance of it happening is choosing a classic song written by professional song writers that a lot of people know already and love to sing along to.

To be fair in return as a song that was hijakced it was shit but to those of us who remember belting it out for 45 mins at Goodison back in the 80s it's still a good song when sung slowly by us all, as most chants would be IF we actually sang them in time. Too often our chants get rushed and end up as nothing but noise

  4. Just about to set off and I think it'll be same stsrting line up with Hourihane given the Bacuna free role from Sat, I think he will like it too as up to now he seems to be a little bit too occupied stopping in midfield which isn't what he as doing for Barnsley and hence what we bought him for

So the parachute payment doesn't even cover half of the wage bill!

Whilst scary from the outside I do wonder if they are looking at different aspects. The playing side wage bill will be the vast majority but if you take in everyone employed by AVFC then the numbers would look a little better. Where The Doc refers to us as "1 firm"  it infers to me he will look at total bills.

As this has kind of turned into a general club nostalgia thread, a couple of months I read they are going to knock down the building on the corner of Hurst Street (number 1-5). While that might not mean much, people will know it better as the numerous clubs it has been: Locarno, Powerhouse, Ritzy, Pulse, Zanzibar, Oceania and finally Electric, when it was permanently shut after a stabbing and double shooting during an 'urban and grime event' (who would've thunk there would be trouble at that?)

Had some great days in some of its former guises.

All dayers in Locarno because we weren't old enough to go Wigan or Torch.

  7. Caught about 15 mins of the beeb red button coverage and two things stick in my mind:

A goal went in and the at ground pundit said: "It was a good kick. With his left foot." and that was it

Then at HT in the Huddersfield ,v Citeh match Dion came out with the astounding piece of punditry: "Huddersfield will think they are still in this".

IT WAS GOALLESS OF COURSE THEY WOULD YOU MUPPET

Johnstone - 7 - Didn't see him do a lot wrong. Not sure if he could have done any better with the goals but pulled off a great save to tip a free kick over and was very resourceful with his throws, setting up some decent attacks. Also didn't panic under pressure from stupid back passes.

Sorry but on this I have to disagree.

Penalty was at what is called 'the perfect height for keepers' and he was nowhere near it

2nd goal - he went down in stages

3rd goal - again too slow to react

That save from the free kick was unnecessary as his hand/arm were well above the bar and he should know that

His throws were good I'll give him that and he should do it more often. His kicking is atrocious, though to be fair he could be deadeye accurate and the lack of aerail presence would mean we lose it anyway.

I think we are, yes.  Brentford and Forest were our first 2 games after the transfer window.  Some people literally castigating Hourihane after 90 minutes of football.  The mistake Bruce made, and admitted to, was throwing all the signings on in that game.  Forest we were unlucky, and it ended bitterly, but we'll agree to disagree on the performance in that one.  Ipswich and Barnsley were good performances that didn't get what they deserved, and that's the point I'm making.  The play is there and the luck isn't.

I'd go with this BOF, last night we were fine until that shocking decision to gift them a lead. We didn't deserve to be behind at HT and I thought 4231 was showing igns of being a decent formation - even if I personally wouldn't have chosen it - then we went 442 and lost our way. Another team came and took their chances, whilst in the last two games we've had 44 'attempts' and scored only one. Before Xmas we weren't creating and were conceding so things have moved on ...

  10. So today I am the manager and I'm selecting

                                                             Bunn

                                  Elphick             Chester          Baker

    Bacuna               Thor            Lansbury       Hourihane      Amavi

                                                    Hogan           Kodjia

    Subs:

    Loanee / Hutton / Taylor / Grealish / RHM / Green / Adomah

Without Bree and Jedi I think it's pretty much as good to push for a win as we have and also shows that this squad is better than it is perfroming and without doubt questions need to be raised about that should it continue. Calderwood ..... I'm looking firmly in your direction

  11. With no Jedi I think it'll be 352 again so I'd like to see same as Saturday with Amavi in for Taylor. If we constantly make changes we wil not get anywhere and the players will not have a clue.  If it isn't working we can take off a CB and stick Jack on for a little more creativity.

Should we want to stick a 442 in then, and only then, would I pick Taylor who looked like a player asked to play a comepletely new game on Saturday. And without Lansbury holding as he is too slow to turn and is easily beaten one on one, hence the numer of times he gets booked or gives away free kicks pulling the opposition player back

I'm up for this one , was either that or have to take Mrsh29 out for valentines dinner so an easy choice really

I'm expecting another tinker from Bruce and another inept performance

anything else will be a bonus

Am taking wife out tonight as it's cheaper anyway and will be down with Aston, might see you there as I think it will be our lowest crowd of season so far

  13. Good luck Henri you will need it. We have a history of buying decent midfielders with good scoring records and they simply stop - Thompson, Curcic, Draper to name just three.

Also the noise you hear when misplacing a pass of any sort is just the norm at VP, get used to it.

  14. The rule used to be eldest male heir so if you had a daughter then a son they jumped the queue and their heirs move in turn (Anne was once 2nd until Andrew popped out and is now 12th). You also couldn't take the crown if you had married a Roman Catholic. So although Charles was always in line for the job he almost cocked it up marrying old horse face but in fact she isn't her ex was..... google is your friend

THe catholic thing only came in 2015!
