Emery may see Barkley as a ten who can put pressure on Diaby to perform better?

Barkley played deeper for Luton and would more likely be rotation for Luiz. But emery likes flexibility, so I'm sure he might play him there if injuries hit.

We are a CL team now mate. We can't be having £5 million kids on the bench ready to come on to mark Mbappe.

But if we picked up a few value for money signings similar in quality to Rogers would you change your mind?

Whoever runs the marketing department at Villa Park needs the sack. **** awful rollout - Atleast redeploy the website/social channels with the logo and give the new badge some sort of fanfare?

Would you want a big fan fare if you had designed this badge?!

I assume he got a bit of a knock, but I didn't see one. Baffling sub if he wasn't injured.

I wonder how Ollie feels about being denied a chance to get 20 goals by emery in a game which was already lost.

  5. From Emery's comments it sounds like he is looking to sell Duran this summer. I'd be really disappointed as I think he will go on to be a top striker. Salah, De Bruyne and Palmer kicked on (after being at Chelsea and Man city respectively) and Duran will be another to add to that list.

This is definitely true. Wes and Todd Boehly (who owns Chelsea) are co-owners of various businesses in the US (via Fortress and Clearlake respectively).

    When did they get married?!

This is not a loophole. This is precisely how accounting works in football.

Its not in the spirit of the rules and the club is exploiting them, like chelsea's 8 year contracts. The rules are not tight enough to stop it, so i'd say it was a loophole. But let's not get into semantics. Someone asked why we would make such a deal, as it didn't make sense, and I was explaining what the benefit was.

    Mutual consent.

This was obvious. De zerbi's stock is still high and is being linked with top jobs. If he stays at Brighton another year I think they will struggle again and he won't be shortlisted for the big club vacancies any more.

We really need a decent number 2 for next season with Emi going to Olympics and Copa America.

So we'll definitely be getting rid of Olsen then.

if im understanding it correctly, it was a permanent transfer if they stayed up, but a glorified loan if they didnt.

I believe it was as follows (roughly):

    1) 10m up front

    2) 8m if they stayed up and making the deal permanent (18m total).

    3) If they didnt stay up, we resign for something like 8m.

    4) if 3 happens, thats effectively a season loan, where they paid 2m.

    ......or something like that.

edit: what @useless said sounds about right, so in that scenario we got 4m in the first instalment, then maybe we have paid 2m to get him back, with us taking a profit of 2m (loan fee), or such.

Possibly a FFP loophole. When archer was sold the whole transfer fee was treated as immediate income. The buyback is amortised so the fee is spread over the length of the contact. It's smart business as we effectively get a loan fee, experience for the player and a positive net value for ffp.

Villareal we're also tracking him before Unai left. We signed him as he was a target of both Unai and villa.

I don't that is true. emery said that he didn't know much about Duran but was shown analysis videos by villa and then agreed on that basis.

I just saw this on Reddit, posted today:

"I got talking at the Hibbs game to the chap in charge of developing Villa Park. He was a few down and was definitely saying more than he should. The plan is to have a terrace view set up all around the ground. Could be that sadly. "

Heck did say that he was adding more 'premium' seating around the ground so makes sense.

To get in that bracket and sustain a top four challenge we'll need at least 4 top players to come in.

Yes...and we don't have the FFP headroom to do it. That's why clubs like ours can never replicate top 4 finishes. If Unai and monchi manage it then they need to be given the keys to the city and access to every villa WAG.

We are compliant within the rules and the presumed CL money will help a lot. Nothing to woryy about.

We are probably just about ok, but pushing the accounting date back a month and asking the FA to move the FFP threshold up to 135m suggests the club is close to the limit. The CL money won't be included in this year's accounts and I'm not sure the kit or shirt sponsorship will either.

  15. We finished the game with Watkins and Duran on the pitch and scored 2 goals when together. I hope Unai can find a way to play that has them both on from the start.
