can he play up front?
-
I'd like us to start the game with a striker on the pitch.

I think we can all agree in the fact that performance was gash.
Can't defend a manager who plays a deep lying midfielder up front on his own.

Players become the answer to our problems when they are not playing. It's happened for years on VT.
Carlos Gil is the answer.

Just look at Sunderland now, that was us last year!
This x1000000.
I live with a Sunderland fan, and he's suicidal when it comes to football...really gives you some perspective. -
A straight forward win here, but it'll be an ugly performance.
-
Our full backs are a real weak link, they are so painfully slow....johnstone was the saviour today.
A missed opportunity.
-
I'd still rest him tomorrow, we need him fully fit with a couple weeks of full-training under his belt.
Very good news.

How many have our strikers scored.??
I see what you're saying, but our strikers seem to be playing mostly in the physio room this season.

it‘s called Bruce-Ball
If we dont freshen things up it will eventually cost us points or more injuries/Burn out.
Millwall, who are apparently shit, is the perfect oppertunity to do this.
Yes, we have a week till the next game but a longer than normal resting period for the Brucian fav‘s will benefit the next period of games in quick succession.
Injuries through Fatigue or burn out should be avoided or put on hold as far back as possible, giving our crocked time to return and the possiblities of loans in january.
Bruce does reward players that come on and do well, it's why Hutton is still in the team. I wouldn't be surprised to see both players start after their sub performance last week.
Feeling good about this one boys, love beating the Millwall! -
He scored against the blues, surely there is something there we can use whilst we only have a very tired Davis.

I still feel Kodjia is too much of a Maverick to be integrated into a Bruce team to function properly. I admit that Villa are missing a fit Kodjia even should it be to give Davis a rest but when 100% would he hold the ball up as well as Davis or be as unselfish on the ball?
I also think Davis is finding it more difficult now due to the opposition targeting him. Noted against Leeds whenever he got the ball he was surrounded and continully pressed. That will happen until the end of the season as teams have identified just how important he is to the way Villa play.
Could also be affected by fatigue but he has been rested through international breaks.
I agree with this.
I think that with Kodija returning he will take a significant portion of focus from the oppo defenders, which in turn will help Davis as you mention. The question is then how do you incorporate them together in a 4-5-1, without sacrificing the midfield. I guess the obvious choice would be onomah, but does that leave us a bit lightweight in the midfield? When we've played 4-4-2 we've always looked a bit flimsy down the middle, Whelan and Jedi cannot play in a midfield pairing.

Whenever I look at how Sunderland are doing at the moment, I always think "thank the lord for Tony Xia".

Very impressed by the confidence he had to take that shot, alot of players would not have...especially coming back from injury.
He's got a strong mentality, very pleased to have him in the dressing room.
-
He is ready to start, get him in.
-
We conceded away from home, and fought back very well. We are a tired and depleted team missing our key players...jack and Henry both look like they will add value in the next few weeks. Very happy with this result, we rode our luck but equally we were good value for the point.
A draw away from home against a side like leeds is always positive....Onwards and upwards.

I don't think it matters what position the player plays in, in the fact I think it should be more about the type of person we bring in.
Surely there is one player in the Premier League right now that isn't getting game time who would be up for a loan, has been in a team that has been promoted from the championship, is up for the fight.
As long as it isn't another right back then we could do with another player that on experience and character alone can be useful in the run home.
Possibly shift Thor on and in bring a proper left sided player.
Definitely, it is a world cup year after all. Players like Wilshire need to go out and get game time, it' just a question of if the championship fits the criteria for them.

Solanke on a short-term loan would be excellent, technically very good, can make play the ball, and a great finisher.

I feel TRO you are not giving Villa players enough credit by again protecting the current Villa manager.
You only have to look at how the likes of Hourihane and Lansbury played for their previous clubs plus even James Bree at FB or indeed Laet. Throw in Onomah, Snodgrass, Adomah, Grealish and O'Hare plus Hogan who previously thrived on through balls and you have players who love the ball at their feet.
Of course there's plenty of scope for a Santos to come to Villa and play a more progressive game it just that Bruce chooses not to play that way.
I can see your logic, but i think you are over-simplyfing it.
I would point to guardiola last season, who tried to play his brand of football but didn't have the players. Yes, we have brilliant players, but it's very difficult to say that they can set up to play Nuno's style when these players have played English-football their whole careers. -

Just looking at individual player threads one thing that stands out is there no weak links anymore. Yes you have players who have the odd poor game but generally they are all producing at least a 6 of 10. For so many years even when the team would be doing ok they would be carrying at least one player that would cost us.
Bruce deserved some credit for making us look like a team at long last. Not a pretty team but an effective team.
Agreed, I can't remember the last time we had such great squad depth. This is where we have a big advantage over December and January, I feel very good.

Being pragmatic, we are climbing the table, great. We may even get to 2nd. that would be wonderful.
It‘s working (Bruce-Ball, Hoof-Ball, Dinosaur-Ball or Promotion-Ball whichever one wishes to call it)
I‘m not convinced it‘s the right way, so I‘ll reserve the right not to be „Bruced“ yet till we‘re 2nd and pulling away from 3rd like Wolves appear to be doing.
Still ugly and embarrassing to watch the way we play, but I guess my expectations are way to high for the Ch.
Still doesnt ride with me that our start was self-inflicted and that the points total improved by way of injuries forcing Bruce to bring back our best assister from last season, who he replaced 2-fold, and a former non-league youth-player, who is our major effect-player.
Still a long way to go.
Promotion or we‘re f***** still stands
Try and enjoy football mate, it's a form of entertainment after all.
In reality it's unlikely that villa will hit form like this again for a long time, so after 5 years of watching utter dogshite..just take a day off and smell the roses.

We are dreadful, actually shockingly bad. How have we spent so much money and not assembled a bench that can cover the centre back position? Why on gods earth do we have so many full backs?
Why do we insist on just booting the ball aimlessly at NO-ONE. Whelan is the biggest culprit of this. Especially when you being on two strikers under 6 foot, PLAY IT TO FEET FFS.
Why did we take Snodgrass off for a FULLBACK?
I'm beyond angry, this is dross and we are in danger of sliding into horrendos form and not recovering. I am not confident JT will come in and change our fortune so drastically.
