  1. Data, statistics, percentages etc etc. Your best penalty taker hits his perfect penalty but the keeper gets lucky (or does he ?) and saves it. If he had gone second or fourth would he have scored ? Who knows?  Penalty shoot outs are a lottery anything can happen.

  2.  Great performance all round and fantastic winning goal. This is by far the best I have seen the team play this season over a full game. Only matched by the fantastic away support who sang throughout the game with a very varied ( and often humorous) song book. Take a bow all involved.

As above it’s completely dependent on whether Emi called for it.

If Emi has called that it’s his ball then Lenglet is blameless. If your keeper shouts for it then you have to leave it.

If there’s no shout then it’s on Lenglet. You can’t assume your keeper is getting there.

So the split in opinion is understandable

Still waiting to see it. How can we tell if he called or not ? Looking forward to making a decision if motd ever show the game.

  4. Waiting for MOTD so haven’t seen it yet, but some on the match thread were brave enough to call EMI out for the error others seem unable to believe this and blame Lenglet totally. Looking forward to seeing it.

Seeing as you jump on every comment I make I'm going to jump on yours, see how you like it.

He said "competing" for the title, not "winning" it, so you're misquoting him, maybe you should actually read his post instead of making assumptions. And actually yes, we were competing 2 months ago, we were on 38 points from 17 games, over a season that gets you 85 points. Probably won't win it but you're in the conversation. Many posters were saying they thought we could finish 3rd above Arsenal.

It's all very well getting on your high horse speaking down to people about how they should 'support' their team, everyone has different emotions when it comes to that and expresses their opinions in different ways, doesn't make them any less of a supporter than you, but of course you think you're the model fan and everyone should blindly follow the team without any form of criticism whatsoever.

This idea that we've done incredibly well up to Christmas and whatever happens from now until the end of the season we should shrug our shoulders and say 'ah, well they gave it a good go' is madness, and it's madness to think supporters would think like that, regardless of perspective, they are Villa fans and want the club to succeed. But yet you continue to be more interested in reproaching people on here than focusing on the team and why we aren't winning football matches any more. If you go to every game and follow the club loyally I could probably accept you telling people how they should support, but you're just another armchair fan who seems to spend more time on here than at the games so I don't really think you can dish out any criticism.

    Thank you

Lose this and you're starting to wonder how far we can drop. Wasn't long ago we had dreams of competing for the title and now I'm thinking is top 6 still on?

Seriously?  “ dreams of winning the title” who the f**k realistically thought that ? Thankfully to allay your fears of how far we can drop I think relegation is out of the question at least for this season. Before the season started an away win at Fulham would have been a  reasonable assumption given our ambitions, currently we are 5th with 46 points they are 12th with 29 accepting we have some important injury problems  and despite the fact we lost to a rejuvenated Man Utd last match I still think it’s acceptable to think we could/ should win this. Lets hope the players have more belief than some of their “supporters” on here.

Every game is a must win. Have to stop the rot and hang on in there. However I think Fulham will win this.

Why ? We played well today against a far better team than Fulham . There is every chance we could win.

You're really on a high horse today aren't you?

    Your absolutism is showing.

It's possible to support a team and be utterly pissed off at them. It's also possible to like a manager and think he got stuff wrong.

Your narrow view of things is the problem, not people expressing doubts based on recent form.

You’ve got me there, absolutism ?

Cack. We're cack lately. Unai has to be responsible for our poor form lately at some stage, just as he was credited for our great run last year.

We're not getting Champions League unless City get a huge points deduction.

Sorry your comment is cack (never typed that word before) we lost we didn’t play badly. Clearly doubting the manager, care to suggest a replacement?

Everyone slags off Zaniolo who doesn’t even start so I’ll slag off whoever the hell I want.

Not everyone but if it helps. Just looked at our central defenders when we were dropping out of the premier league and in the championship, but you probably weren’t watching then when we were shit

FFS shitty Lenglet and Carlos at the back again. Man Utd to win then.

Not shifty you  just don’t like them, fair enough but they play for the team you profess to support so why not get behind them and support your team rather than seeming to enjoy slagging certain players off regardless.

    I don't think we have a chance.

Not convinced by either Diego Lenglet or Cash.

Couldn't even beat them when being 2 - 0 up and having an additional couple of days rest over them now they have extra rest over us.

    I'll take a draw.

    Mighty fine of you.

Don't make me laugh. Have you ever been? Awful atmosphere. Really poor.

Yeah sure, Champions League semi final it might be good. Most grounds are for the big games, including Villa Park.

Yes numerous times and you are welcome to your opinion

Maybe so but that’s still £70m worth of defenders and two of our top earners.

That’s the club’s decision to employ them and pay them didn’t see anything other than them giving their best on the night not much more than they can do than that. Plus the fact they were royally screwed over by our equally expensive midfield who were crap.

Not sure you’ve read my comment properly. I clearly said the midfield were no better, but Luiz, Kamara and McGinn have shown much much more than Lenglet, Carlos and Cash and so moving forward I have more confidence on their collective and individual levels.

Read it perfectly, they are first choice players the others are back ups (even Cash as Konsa is the preferred full back for many) so they will obviously perform at a higher level hopefully in the future more of our fan base will learn to recognise that back up players aren’t as good as the first choice and therefore will not reach the same levels but still need to be supported.Tonight the midfield regulars cost us that game not the back up defenders.

  16. 13 minutes ago, Villa87 said:

Absolute dross. I’m seriously concerned about our back 4. All 4 of them look absolutely horrendous - collectively and individually. Midfield no better, but I’m confident they will get their mojo back.

Back four will obviously suffer because the midfield was so shit, but hey ho lets ignore the fact that our regular heroes were absolutely shit and blame it on the back ups.

Cash at RB and Carlos and Lenglet at CB?

What's the worst that can happen...

Fans are flat because they think the defence is shit, when really (hopefully) they should be getting behind then because they are best we can field tonight and deserve to be fully backed. They are also all international players.
