I can’t wait to see lads falling over themselves wishing him the best of luck when he walks out on the club he supporters I won’t be one of them hypocrites in my opinion he is worse than the last guy who went to City from us

I don’t see how people can be getting so bitter. Yes if he leaves it will be disappointing but what he’s done for us shouldn’t be underestimated, he literally pretty much single handedly dragged us up from the championship and then cemented us back in the premier league. Where would we actually be without him or if he left when we got relegated? What did Delph do? Help fight relegation for a little bit? Milner never really felt like he was with us for the long term. Barry was at the age he needed to leave. Give the guy a break he’s probably facing the hardest decision of his life. If you got offered a massive pay rise at work at th company you felt loyal too and had started at or the opportunity to work for another company that been producing better results for years and probably even more more money it would be a hard decision for you? It’s no different these people are still human

Fact of the matter is, if Jack goes and we replace him with say Jonathan David and he scored more than 10 goals in the season and the likes of Bailey and Buendia chip in with 10+ because we are no longer a one man band, would we miss Jack? He doesn't score lots of goals so if he goes and replace him with goals he'll hardly be missed, right?

Your logic is right but it’s still not if that makes sense

Well obviously we’d have to sell someone. Not sure the wording of that exchange was needed. According to Ornstein JWP isn’t related to Grealish and I can’t see Tammy and Axel being legitimate links. Besides. who says we’re trying to sign all of them together anyway? Just a collection of links.

No we wouldn’t. I’d be selling it to the owners look I can get 5 really good players for the price a club is willing to play for our best player, keep him and we’ll have a £400 million plus squad easily able to compete with the top 6/4. I’d sell it too Jack look how much were investing give it one more year and you will see results, we are now where city were 10 years ago. Stay with us and make us where city are now over your career and become a hero and legend of the club you love.

Purely devil’s advocate here but it’s interesting no one here is really talking about the pure financials of it. From a purely financial perspective, is there any scenario where rejecting £100m for an asset and then paying that asset £200k p/w makes any sense? Even qualifying for the CL or whatever doesn’t really cover that does it? And we then consider how unlikely it is we will even qualify for the CL.

I think we are possibly ignoring the fact that £100m is a truly insane amount of money and the wages Grealish is no doubt demanding will be insane.

Yeah definitely thought about it. On top of that I think the way Jack plays it’s only a matter of time before he picks up a serious injury with all the fouls he receives.

    Had time to calm down.

I'm still not convinced he won't weigh everything up and decide the feeling of being at home at Villa is too much and decide to stay.

The £100m must be a release clause. Which would make the transfer request story complete rubbish. In that case, it's purely up to NSWE/Dean to convince him of their ambitions.

But part of me thinks if the money is reinvested in the right way, we could emerge stronger. And Jack's such an incredible player, a *small* part of me wants to see just how good he would undoubtedly be when surrounded by world class players. I think he would elevate City from 'just about the best' to 'another universe' and they'd win every game 5-0.

I'd love to see that happen at Villa but our owners don't seem to be wanting to break FFP rules any time soon. So we probably aren't going to be challenging for the CL within the next 2 or 3 years.

He wouldn't get my blessing to leave but I can understand it.

I agree with everything you said. I’m preparing myself for the prospect of him leaving but I still don’t think he will. I was at Wembley for the euros final. He was warming up and literally staring at Southgate as if to say ‘bring me on you fool’, I really think that would of given him a sense of what it will be like at a team like city when you play maybe every other game. He loves to play football it’s clear to see, he will also have to keep his nose a lot cleaner than he does at villa. It’s going to be interesting what he decides because I’m sure he holds all the power.

  6. Don’t let it engulf your weekend people. Nothing we can do or say will change the outcome. Let’s face it he could of left years ago. Would we back where we are without him? Probably not. Would it be great if he stays? Yes. Would £100 million improve us? Possibly. Their is so many variables it’s not worth spending too much time thinking about it. It is what it will be. UTV

Let say we spend 35m on him, can anyone realistically see us then spending 40m on McNeil?

Potentially if that what Dean wants and has sold to the board. Nothing surprises me anymore. I’m still in the mindset like most villa fans of accepting nothing until it’s sealed, i remember wasting days of my life hoping we’d sign wes hoolahan so I try not to put so much time and thought into things anymore. But it certainly seems we are operating how we envied all those other teams years ago. It’s positive.

Arsenal need to sell to buy, we don’t. Unless he has his heart set on Arsenal, which I can’t imagine many players have atm, we have a real chance of getting him.

We can match any fee/wages Arsenal offer, they just have a better stadium

    No they don’t.

  9. I like Smith, I really do. He’s done lots for us but I’m just not sure if he’s going to take us to the next level. My heart says let him stay beyond the summer but my head says we need to get someone else in.

The penalty you could maybe put down to complacency or whatever, but it was extremely soft.

The second goal is a freak accident. You can't blame that on anybody. It was a slip from one of our best players. That's not a trait, it's just bad luck

Few players seemed to slip up tonight the surface must of been watered and greasy. At home we should be able to control this and prepare the correct footwear at least

    Not a bad option.

Or a 4-3-3 with an extra CM'er - Nakamba or Ramsey - instead of Hause.

Would make more sense they only ever line up with one up front sometimes none.

    This.

We've played a poor spurs side and Liverpool on a ridiculous home losing streak and we've still been beaten comfortably.

We might put in a better performance but as ever with teams on poor form, we are usually the ones to give them a morale boosting win.

Without Grealish it's hard to see how we can get results against the big teams, or any teams for that matter.

Are you serious? We hit the woodwork at 1-1 against Liverpool and they scored the winner in the 94th minute. Spurs we were flat but they got a penalty that was dubious. We are definitely able to get results against the so called scummy six this year. We’ve comfortably beating Liverpool, Arsenal x2 drawn with Chelsea. We haven’t been embarrassed in any game. Smith needs credit for stopping the rot against these teams when we used to roll over and was a guaranteed loss.

Very true, and as mentioned above the Champions league also a factor.

Just a shame we don't have our best player for it, otherwise I would actually be reasonably confident myself. Got to see what city turns up as i dont think we can beat them on merit without Jack, if they decide to show up.

Yeah another factor. Shame about Jack, but is he definitely ruled out? They have KDB definitely out. Which is a good thing for us but still plenty of quality, they do like to rotate lots which is a nightmare for my fantasy football team. Hope smith can come up with some kinda tactical plan for this one.

I think weds is a right off, just hope we don't get humiliated so we have something left in the tank to defeat west brom

Not so sure. Maybe as good time as ever time to play them this season, losing to Leeds and in the FA cup and now this whole super league distraction plus them maybe slightly looking over their shoulders with Man U creeping up. Could snatch a point. Or a win. No other season I’ve felt more comfortable with us playing the ‘big greedy 6’ this season than most of the other seasons in my 35 year old history.
