  1. Lambert signs a quality player to fill the most suspect position in the team. Great stuff.

Suspect maybe, but not the most critical!!

Can't believe this post- teams have been targeting our left back for the last year and a half. We desperately needed a left back!!!!!

  2. As I said earlier, I like the fact that this signing gives us options ( with the players we currently have )4-3-3

    Guzan

    Lowton Vlaar Clark Bertrand

    Bacuna Westwood Delph

    Benteke Gabby4-4-2

    Guzan

    Lowton Vlaar Clark Luna

    Bacuna Westwood Delph Bertrand

    Benteke Gabby3-5-2

    Guzan

    Vlaar Clark Baker

    Bacuna KEA Westwood Delph Bertrand

    Benteke Gabby

Wouldn't be suprised to see all of the above at some point over the rest of the season

We need a player on your 433. Who is the last attacker? ;)

Wiemann. He's been as much use as the invisible man this season ;)

Yes that would be my team too.

  4. Q. Is there another club in the Premier League right now that has a lower wage bill to turnover ratio than ours ? (well apart from the mega rich ones with unbelievable income revenues of course)

I think our last published turnover income was 75/80m, this will now be boosted by a further 20m ish from the new Sky deal (i believe) and some hopeful improvements that the club will have made on the commercial side to earn their salaries. So lets say it'll be near 100m next time around.

As we all know, our current 25 man squad wage bill must be tiny these days, especially given that our ITK man claims a lot of Lambert's signings are earning between 5-15k a week. Lets estimate the current squad wages, i've also included our players that are out on loan

    Guzan 30k

    Steer 5k

Given 25k (not sure what percentage of his wage we're paying so i'm guessing 25k is half)

    Donacien 1k

    Hutton 30k

    Baker 10k

    Clark 15k

    Bennett 15k

    Vlaar 25k

    Okore 20k

    Luna 15k

    Lowton 15k

    Stevens 5k

    N'Zogbia 40k

    Bacuna 15k

    El Ahmadi 15k

    Albrighton 15k

    Westwood 15k

    Delph 30k

    Herd 5k

    Sylla 10k

    Gardner 5k

    Tonev 10k

    Carruthers 2k

    Johnson 2k

Ireland 30k (not sure what percentage of his wage we're paying so i'm guessing 30k is half)

    Benteke 30k

    Agbonlahor 50k

    Weimann 25k

    Kozak 20k

    Bowery 2k

Delfouneso 5k (not idea what Blackpool are contributing)

    Burke 1k

    Helenius 10K

Bent 30k (not sure what percentage of his wage we're paying so i'm guessing 30k is half)

So that's around 578,000 per week, or around 30 million a year. obviously that's all based on guess work but even so it can't be that far off.

In summation, i think we can finally put this 'we need to get our wage bill in order' bollocks as an excuse for not spending to bed once and for all.

How about this, a new way to pay your players. A sliding scale on a weekly basis.

If you are in the match day team you receive say, 30k plus bonuses or reductions (point etc, reductions for lost games)

If your picked for the match day bench 10k

If your not picked for either a stable wage of 5k per squad member

Let's say Benteke plays a game for Villa and we win. He would get 30k plus match win bonus 10k. If we lose, then minus 10k he gets only 20k.

This would be same for all in the starting line up.

Lets say Beteke is on the bench and Weimann starts in. Weimann would get 30 k and Benteke only 10k. Seems fair enough to me.

I'm not sure how this would work in reality but I'm fed up with players ripping the club off getting big wages and not giving a xxxx.

This would be a you play, you perform, you win, you get rewarded.

If your injured you get the standard 5k regardless of who you are.

If you don't perform then your easy to replace as you are only on 5k a week.

Would be great, if you could get all the clubs to agree to it. Until that happens we're competing with other clubs and if we want decent players we can't have a system like that. We struggle enough to attract anyone as it is!

Yes I know what you mean, maybe the win bonuses could be higher, meaning that a full season 38 appearances and a lot of wins means you hit mega bucks.

Maybe this system would mean we would have a better all round squad and not some Spanish cheap left back for example. Meaning more points.....

  6. If we get Lambert. Keep him. He'll flourish under hi counter-attack heavy gameplan just like he did under MON and at the start of McLeish's reign (god knows what happened there). He always does worse post November but he loves the club and if he gets 15 goals like he did under MON. Then cool. Also think he'd work well with Grant Holt up front.

If we get Martinez. Sell him, he won't work in that system. through balls will be good for him but it doesn't suit him for some reason like under GH, thought he'd flourish there too with Young, Downing and an on-form Marc behind him but he was woeful in that attack and (whilst crap at it) possession-based team.

If its true Sunderland want to give us £10-12m for him, sell. Then hire a proper scout and buy a proper forward, Newcastle have shown (twice) this season that a good striker can be bought for that amount who can finish, is speedy and can hold up the ball too.

If Bent is serious in his tweets about staying at Villa, then thats Gabby's fate sealed for me. Problem being Bent will force a move in 12 months time and Gabby wouldnt. Stand to lose them both if we sell Gabby first imo and i'd be very worried about that. I love Gabby but the fact is we need funds from somewhere and its coming from either Gabby or Bent.

Just saw this from 2012. Could this guy see into the future.................??
  7. Villa sign Denis Bergkamp and have our pick of the best young players across Europe who want to come and play in a side with him in it, trophies galore follow and Villa are seen as an example to all as to how the beautiful game should be played.

Has there ever been a rumor that Bergakamp was coming to the Villa?

Yeah there was a link probably teniuous as they often were when deadly was around can't remember the exact year mind. Could write a book on the players he 'nearly' signed.

    I'd read it :)

  8. I must have been watching a different game.

I thought he struggled to impose himself on what was a really really poor standard of football. Thought Villa as a whole were struggling to do the basics and as a result they didn't get him on the ball enough.

He had a few decent runs and nice touches but if he really was a "class above" then he should have been a much bigger threat given the defending on both sides was a shambles.

To use that game as an example of why he should be in the first team is bizarre in my opinion.

Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Jack and have no doubt he will get there, but he can play much much better than that and I think judging by his twitter statements he agrees.

I think a few of you here either didn't watch the game or watched it with some serious rose tinted glasses.

Spot on. He was on the margins of the game as were the Villa team. Not his fault though, he did not have the opportunity to impose himself.

We could not retain possession at all and gave the ball away so easily on so many occasions. Passing, free kicks, throw-ins, kick outs! It would crack you up if watching the first team hadn’t conditioned you into tolerating it!

Of course he would face the exact same problems in our first team, at the moment so maybe he is better off at Notts!

Did you see the whole game? He was quality in the first half and then the first ten minutes of the second half. Then faded.

  10. Its January 2009 and MON signs a better striker than Heskey. That alone would have made a huge difference in an alternate Universe.

    Lock the thread.

Should have broke the bank and bought Robben at Real Madrid. He was definitely available. We were third and looking good with a 433 tactic. Young on one side Robben on the other ( tasty). Instead he bought Heskey and went back to 442

  11. End of season new contract negotiations.

Delph finishes season on 2 goals, 2 assists. (Currently 1 goal, 1 assist).

Let's say the rumour is true that he is currently on 55k.

We won't offer another 55k deal for Delph (more than we're paying Benteke and Guzan).

    What's he worth?

    Let's say Villa bid 25k

    Newcastle offers 40k.

What does Delph do? He goes to Newcastle. We get ~ £8 million.

It sure would be strange giving him 55k and then offering 25k three years later when he had improved so much

  12. He has shown his ability with the ball at his feet and to get past people, something we are missing from the first team. Doubt Lambert would put him in the squad though.

Why? He's just the type of player we need

Judging by HairyHands' posts about him not be mentally ready for the step up.

It's not easy being a very young playmaker.

The older pros would have accept that he is the sheriff.
