  1. Bar our usual ridiculous mistakes, we have played pretty well that first half, looking far more positive. It proves that we do process some good players, which makes it even more frustrating that Sherwood has neglected to play them this season. Gil and Grealish should play together every week, if they can do it against Chelsea away they can do it against anyone.

Still think we have a goal in us but unfortunately, probably a few costly mistakes too.

  2. Also just got back, it really was abysmal. Amavi, Richards and Gil aside, the rest of the outfield weren't fit to wear the shirt today.

I'm dreading going Tuesday now as there was no fight in our team, they won most of the first balls and every second ball. I thought the team selection was poor, persisting with Sanchez (he was dreadful on the ball) and Westwood (bullied, backwards and even Darren Fletcher ran past him). Sinclair either does nothing and scores or unfortunately like today, just the nothing part.

Hutton tried to get forward but his final ball was awful. Lescott was also pretty poor in possession, aimlessly thumping it towards Gabby first half who has his usual uninspiring game.

Because they dominated the ball in the midfield, we were always on the back foot, hardly had any spells of serious pressure and were constantly outfought. The passing was atrocious at times, giving me a very unfortunate Paul Lambert flash-back. The movement up top was terrible too, with only Gil trying to make something happen. I was really disappointed and frustrated by Grealish too. He was sloppy, had no urgency, never committed to making something happen and he seems to be exhausted after 70 minutes.

Gestede barely wins any flick ons, his dominating aerial ability certainly seems a myth at the moment.

I hope Sherwood says we were crap. The lack of battle and effort is no acceptable, especially given the opposition.

Tuesday is an even bigger game now. It needs to be the catalyst to kick start our season. Lose that and there won't be much faith left.

    Amavi was dreadful

At least he tried to make something happen, running at their players. I admit he wasn't amazing but he at least had a go and took some responsibility on the ball.

  4. From Sky again.

Aston Villa have agreed a season-long loan deal with Liverpool for defender Tiago Illori.

Sky sources understand Villa will pay a loan fee of £1m, and - depending on appearances and clauses - they have the option to sign the 22-year-old permanently next summer for anywhere between £6m and £9m.

  5. As someone who went to the game, it's true he struggled to impress but I have certainly seen some positives. Although he was offside an awful lot, he makes very good runs forward, strange for us to have a striker with movement. I noticed this against United when Gana nearly put him in.

I suspect he will take the longest to adapt but writing him off is just ridiculous.

  6. Yeah Sinclair is a weird one.

He scored a hattrick, and could have had more, but I don't feel like he was in the game that much.

When Adama was on the pitch pretty much everything went down our right wing. like I've said elsewhere, I very much feel like that was a deliberate tactic from us. Everytime we had the ball we seemed to work it out to Adama. And every time he got it he ran at the defence. That must have been instructions from the management.

But as a result, Sinclair hardly saw the ball in the first half. ONce Adama went off, he saw a lot more of the ball.

I really agree with your Sinclair point. If you judge him where he played, LW, then he didn't do much apart from his goals. But if you judge him as a striker, where I think he should be given a go, then he had a very good game.

I'm not sure if I've made sense or not.

  7.

A very risky line-up ,in my opinion, but we got through. I don't know whether to say``Well done, Tim,'' or ``Don't ever do that again''.

If we had games like that every week I'd buy a **** box, let alone a season ticket. It was great.

I was a bit asleep last night and couldn't think - but I wanted to know if Gil did well? You might have said he did, but I was half asleep.

He was one of four of our players that I think played very well

    Grealish

    Gil

    Sanchez

    Veretout

    Probably in that order.

Don't forget Adama! I know he is very raw but I haven't been that excited by a Villa player for a long time. His explosive power is just incredible. Really hope he is fit against Sunderland and that Tim plays him.

  8. Just got back from the game, certainly got my monies worth, haven't been that entertained by Villa for a long time.

We looked awful at the back which was no surprise looking at the team; Baker was horrific, I hope he goes on loan asap. Carlos did his best out of position but I hope he never has to be used at centre back. Richardson was are best defender.

Veretout never stopped running and didn't give the ball away much. He certainly grew into the game and did a pretty good job at winning the ball back. Grealish and Gil were both superb, gliding past their players at will. Grealish shaded the two as he got two assists, just wish he'd shoot a little more, was willing his long range open goal to go in.

Adama was so exciting to watch. I've never seen a player so keen to run at his marker, he must of gone round him around 10 times. I think he passed it once and his final ball was great but the kid is so explosive and raw, it's incredible. I just hope some of you miserable bunch enjoy him and don't get onto his back, hope the injury isn't serious.

Sinclair made another case that he should be played upfront, certainly ahead of Gabby, although he was on the wing today. He gets into some great positions in the box and really has an eye for goal. I don't think I can remember him ever putting a cross in the box.

Finally, although he did great for the 4th goal, Cole was unbelievably bad. He lost the ball 3 times with his first 3 touches, in dangerous areas and continued to give the ball away. He was also saved a couple of times by the referee, his legs have gone for me although like I said, his one good contribution was excellent.

Great game, bring on the Blues.

  9. Him and Richards are going straight into my fantasy team, I'm convinced they're both going to score a load of headed goals.

I agree, Richards will certainly be a vast improvement over Vlaar in this area. Think Gestede could give Blind nightmares on Friday.

  10. He did a brilliant header in the second half when they got in down our left hand side near the end. Always thought his positional sense in the box has been excellent in those situations.

He was guilty of aimless long balls first half though, something I found frustrating but defensively, he played very well.

  11. I like Westwood, I understand why people think he is average but he's been one of the few players who could actually pass the ball these last few seasons. Didn't think he was great today, they were able to get it into their front too far too easily and he wasn't close to cutting it out.

I'd still have him ahead of Sanchez, especially at home, big season for him.

  12.

Amazingly, one of his usual shite corners produced a goal today.

    Absolute shite.

How can you be negative about a player getting an assist.

    So weird.

His corners are shite and always have been. Floated rubbish and easy to defend against. This isn't new information. Today yes, one was met with a beautiful run and jump from Gestede. Which was more to do with Rudy's exceptional aerial abilities.

Well Rudy is quoted this evening disagreeing with you.

Well Rudy did think Alex took it...
