People being unhappy with the brand of football being played is the best way to put it, Electric Avenue, I certainly agree with that phrase because we aren't actually playing bad football. In some aspects you could say we are, for example we aren't scoring enough goals, but people saying we are playing crap football are saying it from their point of view - it is a brand of football that they are unhappy watching.

Defensively we are playing very, very well and a great deal better than last season, which leaves me confused as to why we have any call at all such as "we need to get Lescott in on loan for 6 months." There are aspects of our footballing style that aren't pleasing to the eye as such, but they get the job done. There are other aspects to our footballing style that maybe aren't getting the job done, for example our strikers or the creativity department in terms of creating goal scoring chances. Lambert obviously knows this, he is a professional within the game, a professional football manager with some fantastic achievements under his belt. Of course he needs to be able to rectify such issues, in this case, by maybe buying a player or even two.

Why did he not buy these players in the Summer? Well, probably because just like ourselves he thought last season finished well and goalscoring or creating opportunities would probably be the least of our worries. You could also argue that we were linked to quite a few 'attacking midfielders' and creative players, but Lambert simply wasn't backed financially to bring them in.

Overall though we are and have been improving, in terms of results and points on the board most importantly but also important statistics such as the amount of goals we have conceded or the amount of clean sheets we have obtained.

Do I think we'll bring in a player to solve our creative/scoring issues in January? Hopefully, but that isn't down to Lambert as I've already mentioned it was clear as day we were trying to purchase such a player in the Summer. I'd like to think Randy will see our results are going well, our position is decent and to push on further he'll fund whatever move it is (within reason) that Lambert sees fit.

From there, maybe our football will be more pleasing to watch, with more creativity, more chances and of course more goals. We can't expect all aspects of our game to click after less than 18 months, last season we saw signs of great attacking football towards the end of it, this season we've seen great defensive performances from the get go. I for one am positive that Lambert will get things to click though, but we just have to be patient and also hope that he is backed where/when he needs it.

I saw it mentioned earlier in the thread but I'll say it as well, we should wait until at least the end of the season before making judgments on whether we're rubbish at football or not.

    Agreed 100%

    agreed 95%

  2. It's a shame playing well does not retain you a place in the starting line up at villa Kea, Bacuna, Andi, Tonev all continue to have chances id rather Herd for Kea ,Lowton for Bacuna, but who for Andi? were very weak wide right Allbrighton i suppose deserves a chance but I'm not totally convinced on him I don't want to see Tonev there he's brainless and lacks guts, Bacuna is way to casual noticed his passing square across to the CB? an interception waiting to happen I cringe when I see him pass!

  3. Yeah really glad for him, the amount of times I slagged him off start of last season never though he'd become my favourite villa player, shows that we need to be patient with all players I suppose.

  4. Beaten in the air or not he had a poor game, looked marginally better after subs. Can understand why lambert left him on and agree with the above (bof) ..... Think it's great that kozak is getting better slowly and will add competition for benteke..... Would have loved to have seen that volley fly in....

I bet benteke would not have liked the volley to fly in I honestly think he's jealous

  5. Gabby is indeed really crap

he scored 2 for me in 29 appearances an 1 assist he contributes by winning headers wide left and closing down full backs he works hard Jordan Graham is slowly replacing him  his work rate is not as good though

  6. Anyone else have trouble keeping Benteke?

Just as I start to build a decent team & he scores 32 goals in 43 games, he puts in a transfer request...

Any recomended strikers to replace him?

Dortmund and Bayern  wanted him was offer £15m for him rejected set his value to £34m  he complained his value was to high i lowered him and asked him to change his agent he di aswel then dropped everything January passed now  I suspect we'l have the same scenario in the summer!

I am not sure Lambert does blood home grown players unless forced to. Yes he puts faith in younger players but not if you are under 23.

Daniel Johnson deserves a proper cameo. I thought Callum would get an appearence yesterday and Bowery came on.

I also though Grealish would be part of this year's team although I get a loan is good also.

there was a time if you were good enough you were good enough, even if you were 17.

    Agree with this entirely.

I wish we'd give some our talented bunch of young lads opportunities as subs rather than the likes of Bowery, who clearly from what I've seen, has no real chance of making it in a top level league like the prem. If we can't afford to buy players, then giving our untried young players a chance to prove themselves in the first team. Players like Redmond are making a name for themselves and I don't see much difference between the likes of him and Robinson/Graham in terms of talent.

Lambert said this when asked about big signings in January : "That's the game...it's a challenge," admitted Lambert. "We won't be able to go out and buy the big type of players. We have to look at the market, the young lads. We give them an opportunity and hopefully they take it."

Yesterday, at 2-0 was the perfect opportunity to give a genuine prospect a run out, but instead went for Bowery and with all due respects to Jordan, I cannot see him being Villa caliber in future. Gotta start giving them game time if we are ever going too. Like mentioned, if your good enough, your old enough.

    my thoughts exactly

  8.

Did anybody notice how clumsy his celebration was he nearly scraped his leg on the red astro near the edge of the stadium  l!!!

Yeah I noticed that, going for a slide along the red astro, ooooh not good.

His celebrations will improve over time.

    Haha

  9. I seriously rate Bowery more than Kozak and Helenius, his game against stoke last year won me over, its a shame he gets so little opportunity he'd come on leaps and bound if he made about 20 appearances a season.

  10. I doubt Everton can pay 110k a week of Barry's wages, We'v done OK so far but when it comes to crunch we haven't got a cool head in the team  we either start 100 miles per hour and burn 2nd half or were panicky and look like were going to concede 10 goals in the 1st 10 mins  with a head with Barry in the team I'm sure that would change, his influence on the likes of Delph and Westwood would also  do the alot of good.

  11. Hi I'm Gwion from North Wales been supporting Villa  since I was 6 (1996) I come to the Holte end to watch about 6 games a season I think  have only seen us beat a team once while watching at home since 2004 against Leeds. I'm starting to think I'm the bad luck charm folks, none the less I love this club and enjoy every visit to villa park.
