It didn't start with Shelly, it started with the avillafan twitter. Who I think I'm right in saying had rep at the meeting with Xia and Wyness. I think it's also plausible to imagine that Xia might view a striker from them (Real Madrid) as being world class.

Not from my memory, was the other way around and then the fan sites started picking up on it... Nothing to do with the Wyness meeting just wishful thinking

  2. He really is not a winger - he would be far more effective in the middle running the game.

He comes far too deep to pick up the ball for a winger and more than 50% of the time Westwood etc turn and switch the play for some stupid reason, leaving Jack standing there in the centre circle wondering what the ****.

He's the type of player than needs to be on the ball every time we pick up possession to stay involved in the game, not just when the ball makes it out to Aly and he decides to play it forward (once or twice a half).

  3. Gollini - 8 - Super impressed with him so far (mistakes aside). Will be indispensable by Christmas, once he's settled and played together more with his backline

    Bacuna - 7 - Fine I suppose

Elphick - 8 - Excellent leader. Good defender

    Chester 8 - Solid

Cissokho - 6 - Same as always. Defensively ok, the odd brain explosion

Gardner - 4 - Hitting the post doesn't make up for the other 93min 55 seconds. Not sure what Forest fans were looking at last season. Jedinak ASAP

Westwood - 6 - Fine, this is his level but really would prefer someone else (Tsibola)

Ayew - 7 - First half didn't touch the ball for rating of 6, second half was a lot more involved for 8, an average of 7 overall. As always, too selfish

McCormack - 7 - Glimpses, but came in and out of the game. Should have scored from 18 yards in the first half

Grealish - 7 - FFS can he PLEASE be played centrally? HE IS NOT A WIDE PLAYER

    Gestede - 6 - OK

Kozak - 4 - Had a few decent performances last season but this was woeful. Hope that its just match fitness

Green & Amavi - Not enough time

This whole visa thing should have been sorted out at the same time as the transfer was going through. It is not as if it is some ordinary Joe in the street applying, this is Aston Villa, one of the biggest clubs in the UK and one of the oldest in the world. They should have the contacts and resources to get this done in double quick time.

The Home Office is the Home Office is the Home Office.

Even the £1100 "same day service" that they offer isn't a guarantee of getting your visa on the same day (speaking from experience)

How is his first name pronounced?

Is it Mile as in the same pronunciation as the measurement of distance?
or is it said more like Mee-lay or something like that?

    Mee-lay, its Balkan

No you shouldn't. You can't properly assess any footballer by their stats. You have to watch them play, or in Gabby's case try to. Unfortunately I have seen Gabby play on numerous occassions and, despite not knowing a single gabby related statistic, I can confirm that he is, in fact, shite. If he gets himself together and tries a bit he *could* do a job for a championship club. It's a big 'if' though.

Well technically you can these days, there are hundreds of measurements taken by clubs each day at training and during games.

Unfortunately in gabby's case, he couldn't fit into the GPS tracking vest so we'll have to go off his scoring record for the past 5 years and it is shit.

(Although I think he holds the club record for most nitrous poppers in one night)

It doesn't seem like the championship are sold around the world so I don't see why they don't do like an NBA pass type thing. Where you can pay to watch games for one team or for the whole league.

Surely there's better ways to get the league out there than just sky sports.

As I mentioned in the AVTV thread, Wyness said that TV rights for individual teams are not for sale by the Football League, which is insanely backward for a second tier league but there we are. The only possible scenario I guess would be Villa licenses the rights for the entire league for some country (ie. China) and find a partner to stream it to "China"

(where "China" is basically the internet)

Have you had dreams which have affected reality, lucid dreams, synchronicities, out of body experiences, healed yourself from a serious illness with spiritual energy, experienced your soul?

    I highly doubt it.

lay off the ayahuasca mate, too much of that shit and you'll disappear down a hole there's no coming back from

Well, this is Inflation in football compared to UK Inflation, that is not sustainable at all.

TV deals are a derivative of the world economy, not just the UK. There are plenty of countries where the Premier League is not at saturation point, and that will drive transfers/wages forward for at least another 50 years (realistically more though).

We'll see when the first player transfer breaks 200m, then 500m, then 1b. Then wages breaking 1 million a week. It can't keep going.

Twas ever thus mate. That's what they said when Kevin Keegan broke £1m.

The world keeps getting richer (on the whole), so the TV deals will keep getting bigger

With inflation and PL money, 55k is the new norm for an average squad player in the PL.

I can't wait for the bubble to burst.

What bubble? This isn't the housing market. It's not like suddenly 30% of Sky Sports viewership will suddenly decide to watch darts instead.

I am aware of 500-extra-pounds interview service, but it does not guanrentee the visa on that day. Never heard of the £5000 service though.

It makes more sense from club's point of view to get Jedinak a new certificate of sponsorship (which may takes 1 week), than asking him to apply for ILR (which may takes 1-2 weeks after the interview to receive the passport back, or even longer), in order to complete the transfer.

That said, I do prefer the Australian Visa system. At least I don't need to pay for the medicare (NHS) for the permanent residency!

Yeh I know, my point was that I was surprised he (or Palace), hadn't applied for ILR already, as it makes all this kind of rubbish irrelevant.

@mwjI believe this is why Jedinak's case took some time to complete. Normally Tier 2 sponsorship/certificate takes 1-2 weeks to complete.

You can pay a higher fee for "expedited processing". I think its something like £1000 for 48 hours and £5000 for them to come to your workplace for same day service

It's really not though is it. Dealing with immigration isn't as easy as the brexiters would have you believe. The law is very complex and shit takes forever.

I'm well aware of the vagaries of UKBA mate. I'm an aussie living in the UK :)

Pat Murphy @patmurphybbc 13m13 minutes ago

Jedinak to @AVFCOfficial for £4m depending on today's medical & sorting out complex visa issues (an Aussie!). Hopefully all sorted tomorrow.

Pat is generally on the mark for me; he doesn't tweet BS.
£4m? Seems a lot for a guy of his age with 1 year left on his contract, but could also be a bargain.

Visa? He's been here 6 years, only need 5 for residency... very odd
