    Strongly disagree sir.

To play as one of the two sitting midfielders we have no real back-up at all.

Nakamba and Hourihane have huge holes in their game, and Ramsey is young buck who could fill the gap but it's asking a lot for him to have a run starting games.

McGinn or Luiz out for any length of time, we struggle IMO. I think a signing in that position in January is what will give us a chance of finishing top 8. That plus a forward.

Having said all that I don't think that's particularly a perfect role for Sanson. He could do it for sure, but he's better suited going forward.

I'd be a fan of this signing. He adds class and Champions League experience.

I think we're somewhat on the same page - I'd be a fan of this signing too, as I said!

My bolded comment was just that arguably 4 of our 5 best players (can) play CM, so I'm surprised it's an area we're targeting at this stage, rather than, say, LB/RW/ST, as those are areas in which our starting players may need to be improved upon if we're to finish top 8, as you say.

In summary, I'm mildly surprised but will be very happy if it gets done 😀

  2. Sanson is a very good player, and so I'd be delighted if we sign him. That said, I'm a little surprised that it's a CM we're after, as it's the position we're best stocked in. Sanson is very much "starting" quality, but then so are Dougie, McGinn, and Barkley, not to mention Jack if needed! So it'd be very interesting to see the plan here. Having said that, I'll never say no to a good player joining, so hopefully it gets done

    Bonjour...

We've been linked before haven't we?

We need someone who can cover/compete with Luiz and McGinn. It's crucial for me.

Player prices in France could be through the floor with their TV troubles.

    Now yer talkin'!

Why are people measuring how good a player is by how old he is when he makes his debut? Messi is a thousand times better than Owen or Rooney but he was nearly 19 before he made his competitive first team debut. Ronaldo was nearly 18, and that was only Portuguese Primeira nowhere near the standard of the PL.

Players develop at different rates. Able to play in the PL doesn't make him world class and it doesn't mean he's not going to be world class if he doesn't make it till he's 19. It's basically an irrelevance.

Not that I necessarily disagree with the overall point, but Messi had just turned 17 when he first started playing competitively for Barcelona. He had also been playing regular football for Barca B (who played in the 2nd tier) since he had turned 16.

On Barry, I still think he's a fair way off being ready for the first team. I'd like to see him get some time out on loan in League 1 next season with a team that tries to play decent football

If they're not yet ready for our first team, then sending our youngsters out on loan at the right time and right age to the lower leagues is far more beneficial to their development than them just playing for our U23s and just coasting along and not really developing, playing in league one or league two is a much much bigger challenge and will by far better prepare them for our first team, have to remember that our U23s don't even play in the top division at that level.

All that said I don't think any of them need to go on loan at the moment, most of them are still only seventeen, and this is their first season at U23 level, when our U18s played Reading on Friday and included half the U23 team I'm pretty sure that the average age of the U18 team actually went down, which shows how young our U23 team is.

Only exception is Philogene-Bidace who's a bit older, and a few league clubs have apparently been asking about him, wouldn't surprise me to see him go somewhere next month, and maybe Kesler as well, as he's eighteen also and I think we will be wanting to see how he copes with competitive football as soon as possible.

And then possibley a few of the olders as well like Bridge, Revan, Callum Rowe, and Wright.

Barry's in that strange position where it's probably not the right time for a loan move in terms of his age, but if Watkins was to get injured and Davis remains unavailable then he'd probably be under serious consideration for a place in our first team squad.

Agree with almost all of this post. Kesler is 17 according to transfermarkt though?

Hey, here's a celebration Saturday night quiz question:

How many penalties has Jack scored and missed in the Premier League?

(I have no idea and am hoping one of you might know. I remember him missing one last season when we were already 2-0 down, I think, though I can't remember who that team was. Apart from that I can't remember any others).

From memory, the only 2 pens he's taken are the miss at Sheff United and the one he scored vs WBA in the playoff semi final shootout

Quite a few things will have to go wrong for big Carney to not become a professional footballer.

I think his defensive work looks OK, but there isn't much urgency there. He's so big he covers the ground without looking like he's moving at all.

Reminds me of Sergej Milinkovic-Savic which is no bad thing!
