6 goals and 4 assist in 26 games for a team that got relegated isn’t exactly the worst stats in the world. When a team isn’t playing very well every player suffers. He’s overall premier league record is 48 goals and 15 assists in 161 games.  I think you are being harsh.

    Josh King is cack

    Why are penalties excluded?

If we retain the most fouled player in the league next season then a good penalty taker would be a good thing wouldn’t it?

Even excluding penalties that’s about 8 goals a season. He’d be top scorer for us with that, with penalties to go on top. Win win.

As I said, I don’t expect the majority to be in the same page as me. I just thought for little financial risk an experienced striker in this league might be a useful addition on a short term deal.

It's not 8 per season, it's less than 6 per season. And he's shite

He was really good for a couple of years at fiorentina. He's technically very good, can create and score but looks like juve was a bad idea. Would be a gamble but he'd be at a knock down price and if he played to his potential he'd be worth double.

I don't think he'd be a gamble at all if we could somehow get him (which we won't). He'd probably cost less than Watkins, and is infinitely more proven

Discussions with Porto and Villa regarding 29 year old Centre Midfielder at Stade Rennais.

Used to be extremely promising. Came through in the same France underage grade as Griezmann, Lacazette, Kakuta, etc. Ruined by injuries sadly. Wouldn't really want him now

One of those players I must have seen play having seen Juventus several times in CL over the years but not a player I ever remember.

Is he any good? Pretty dreadful record for Juve given they’ve been champions etc. Looks like he had one decent season for Fiorentina. Doesn’t seem a huge amount to get excited about.

He'd be our best player bar Jack by an absolute mile. Very little chance it happens sadly

Evening all, I thought you might want to have a go at this quiz to test your knowledge.   Can you remember the 34 teams who have been promoted to the PL and not relegated the following season?  I managed 30 out of 34. Post your scores below,  no checking anywhere for the answers!

    Footy quiz

34/34 with 12 mins to spare. Yes, I'm just that good

Joronen of Brescia being linked to us, another keeper. He's actually pretty decent and was at FC Copenhagen in 18/19 so there's the Lange link for everyone demanding he starts signing loads of players this summer.

In the original Corriere dello Sport article, it actually links him to West Ham, but then goes on to say they want him as a replacement for Pepe Reina! The usual sites have now translated it as us being interested in him, so make of that what you will. Pretty sure we were linked with him last summer before he moved to Brescia

I paid to watch it but it didn’t work for me in the end sadly, anyone that did watch it willing to do a match report?

Goalkeeper and defenders had a very poor day at the office. Nothing really came off for Aaron Ramsey/Tyreik Wright/Vassilev (bar a well-taken pen). Jacob Ramsey was good - I think he's good enough for a loan to the Championship, with a view to being integrated to the first team the following season. JPB had flashes of quality. Chukwuemeka didn't do much first half, but second half improved a lot, winning the pen and dribbling/passing well.

I was focusing on their signed forward players, but I do agree that we should be looking at foreign players that fit the mould though.  Koch was a good signing for them and would have been for us.

Think our owners have had their hands burnt with that approach last year though,  given our best performers this year came from UK based teams. They have hired Lange but given where he came from he may not have had the little black book that we needed for the position we're in.  Questionable why we'd get him in you may think, but it's clearly a long term vision.

Nothing to say we won't still sign a player from abroad either.

I agree that we seem to have been burned by last summer's approach, and Smith seems to be shopping in the department he knows best - the Championship. But I don't think there's anything wrong with buying foreign players - last summer we just happened to buy poor foreign players! I don't care if we sign players from Brazil or Brentford as long as they're good, but the fact remains that English players are incredibly overpriced in today's market, and if after bringing in a new recruitment team the best we can do is blow the best part of £50m on 2 players who've never played in a top flight, nor made an international appearance at any age grade, I'm very worried

Fair enough on the value for money view then. I guess I picked on your post to reply to as I know it wasnt a wind up attempt. I think we have to accept that the selling club set the price and the only way it wasnt being met is if it reached the end of the window and they'd had no other offers. We couldn't afford to wait that long so paid the premium.

Leeds got helder Costa thanks to having loaned him previously and Rodrigo is 29. They're taking a short term approach to survive which is perfectly acceptable to me. We got lucky in surviving last season buying players that will appreciate in value,  but having done so it gives us the chance to improve sustainably,  and signings like Rodrigo would have us back in the dark days.

Accept some of the extra will be due to appearances, but alot will be performamce and international appearance related

I think we need to walk away and widen the net if we're being quoted extortionate amounts for unproven players. Re Leeds, I think Rodrigo will do well for them. Rather than Helder Costa, I was referring to Robin Koch (a young German international for a relatively low fee), and Rodrigo De Paul who they are in advanced talks for, and who would be a fantastic coup

Apologies, I'd forgotten that period of time when he scored 1 goal in 24 appearances... although fair enough he was 21. Still a gamble that he'd settle as it looks a lot like he didn't settle first time round

Mikel Merino would be our second best player by an absolute country mile! Not that he'd come to us - he just started in midfield for Spain the other day. So much BS spoken about PL experience on here. You'd swear there were no good foreign players in the league
