Bold part a) But the fee is £28m? Bold part b) Who?
£28m rising to £33m. Off the top of my head, in terms of attacking players, Kevin Volland, Aleksei Miranchuk, Oscar Rodriguez, Ferran Torres, Suso, Yannick Carrasco, Mario Pasalic, Everton Soares, James Rodriguez, Stefano Sensi have all in recent days gone for far less than Watkins, and all have way more pedigree/quality. I'm not suggesting we should/could have signed all of these players. I'm just demonstrating that we're massively over-paying for a player who has never played in a top division, or even got an underage cap to his name - let alone a senior cap!

It is an insane fee no doubt but I guess what is difficult for us fans to grasp is how insane the market has become.
I guess for Villa it’s a calculated risk. If he’s successful, say getting up to 15-20 goals in any of the next few years he instantly starts getting talked about for England squads. If he gets called up as mad as it is we could probably double our money if not more.
Could just as easily be another massive disaster and waste of a staggering amount of money. Throw it on the pile.
I don't think the market is 'Ollie Watkins for £33m' level of insanity. Quality strikers have been moving for £15m this window.
We seem to be limiting ourselves to the Championship, spending the best part of £50m on Cash and Watkins alone! Neither of them have played in a top-flight. Nor have either of them ever been capped at any age level!
Obviously I hope both players are successes but this is a bonkers way to spend so much money

Apparently we're leading the chase for Harry Wilson. I wont even bother telling you the fee because you already know it.
He's exactly what we don't need IMO.

I meant the English Prem, obviously. I haven't seen him play, agreed. My point was that I don't see him as the marquee signing that will convince Jack to stay which was what was implied.
Hasn't been called The Premiership in England for about 20 years
My point was that Edouard is far better than the likes of King, and if Jack plays with players of that calibre he's far more likely to want to stick around for longer

Edouard that's done nothing in the premiership? Trust me if Jack's made his mind up then signing a player from a side that even Scott Sinclair banged the goals in for won't change his mind
He actually has scored quite a few goals in the Premiership. That's where he's playing at the moment, in fact. You clearly haven't seen Edouard play if you're comparing him with Sinclair. Also, Van Dijk, Robertson, Dembele, Tierney, McGinn, etc haven't done too badly having come from Scotland without PL experience

This summer is our very last chance to show Jack we mean business. Signing Josh "3 goals" King isn't going to improve us and will leave us looking to buy a striker AGAIN next January/summer. Put £35m on the table for Edouard and be done with it

As uninspiring as it gets. We've brought in a whole new recruitment team and are going through Steve Bruce's Championship shopping list

If Villa had signed the players Sheffield United have most fans would be up in arms ! I don’t see that they have progressed, and they had a dreadful post lockdown.
They picked up more points than we did post-lockdown, and everyone seems to think we turned a corner!

Gonna say it , think Tammy has reached his ceiling and can't see him improving much more , I've always thought that he is a slightly better Carlton Cole , bring on the hate
He's far better than Carlton Cole, but I do think most Villa fans overrate him quite a bit

Who mentioned big money for him. Firstly it was the daily Star, secondly no reported figures have even been magicked up.
Sure, Rodrigo is a statement signing, but Villa are not in the business of paying £30m and 100k a week for someone who is 30 years old in 5 months. Our business model under this ownership is clear.
It was in the Express and Star, not the Daily Star. Bournemouth rejected a £20m bid for him in January so it's safe to assume he wouldn't be cheap. King is less than a year younger than Rodrigo, and absolutely nowhere near as good. Not sure what you can't understand about my point of view, but I'm gonna move on now

By spending massive massive money on them, which you then go on to...
Yes thats right, say you don't want to do....
I don't want us to spend big money on Josh King who is a bang average footballer. I'd be happy to spend £13m on a young German international, or £27m on Spain's number 9. Not sure how there's any contradiction there

So you don't want any players from any of the relegated sides then?
Not relegated strikers who don't score, would cost a fortune, and have no re-sell value. I'd take Buendia/Brooks/Cantwell for the right price

The problem is, we don't seem to be able to attract that level of player, at least with the current manager in charge. I don't know what names you have in mind but it's been reported (note, I use the word 'reported') that players like Rashica and Wilson didn't want to come here. Of course we want to buy top players but unfortunately unless Villa gets bought by a Saudi prince I don't see that happening and players like King are probably the best we're going to get, certainly at this point in time.
I just want some players in before gameweek 1, if we go into the season with Davis and Samatta as our strikers it really will be curtains for us. I know the window closes on 5 October but we have got 2 winnable opening games, if we end up with say 1 point from those 2 games or heaven forbid 0 points we really will be in the brown stuff.
I don't buy that. Look at the calibre of player Leeds are able to bring in, and they're newly-promoted. I'm also not asking for "top players", merely better players than King who never scores, has just been relegated, would cost big money, and has no re-sell potential

That's a bit steep but £15-20m is probably about fair. Given Wilson went for £20m I doubt King would go for more.
I think we need better. We keep spunking tens of millions away on players who are slightly better than the dross we have, only to realize a year later they're still not good enough. Just buy someone good and we won't have to replace them next summer! That's how to build a team

King would be an upgrade on what we have so why on earth not.
I'd be an upgrade on what we have up front. It doesn't mean Villa should spend £25m on me

express and star (yeah i know...) linking us to josh king. big, fat, yes **** please to that one. don't think we have a hope in getting him though
Josh King scored 3 non-penalty goals in 27 games last season. If he's out of our league we might as well fold as a club

Leipzig got a fair few forwards already.
Patrick Shick, Yussuf Poulsen, Dani Olmo, Forsberg, Hwang-Hee Chang, Ademola Lookman and errr....Jean-KEVIN Agustin....
Have to think they'd unload at least one of those if they got in Dembele. Would guess at premier league team being Everton btw.
Schick was only on loan and by all accounts won't be returning. Still couldn't see them spending the £40m or so Dembele will go for

I don't know anything but just to add to the KEVIN speculation.
Great player but he'd have to pull an Unsworth. Monaco only signed him for a mere 15m a few days ago

It’s an interesting question. What is better for Ramsey.....40 games in the Championship or sitting on the bench instead of Lansbury.
I’m torn between the two tbh. I mean I’d prefer to have Ramsey on the bench over Lansbury as he has goals in his locker..... but getting another 40 games in the Champs maybe the best for his development.
Ideally, we'd have a midfield of Douglas Luiz, McGinn and Jack/new signing, with Hourihane to bring off the bench instead of Lansbury, and Ramsey getting regular game time in the Championship

As I said in my original post, I'm not saying we should've signed those players (though looking at Leeds' business I feel we could've nabbed one or two). My point is that they're all far better/more established players than Watkins, yet we're paying substantially more. That makes no sense from a business perspective
We also don't know what the add-ons are for, so I don't agree with your first point either! They could be appearance-related, and, costing was he does, he'll be playing ahead of Samatta and Davis no matter what, I'd imagine
