Fonz has never started a Premier League game so that is the most likely reason. He is most likely talking about Premier League strikers.
-
Bannan's AVFC squad page claims he is 5 7", only 2 inches smaller than NRC.
Not a chance surely? He looks about 5 4" to me.
-
Thought he wad far better out wide than off the striker.
-
Houllier said he had a dead leg, and was doubtful. However he said Ireland was very hopefully of been fit to play.
-
Apparently they have only sold 13000 tickets so far.
-
Under Houllier, first match, I'd like to see a strong team.
Guzan.
Young Cuellar Collins Warnock
Reo-Coker Petrov.
Downing Ireland Young
Agbonlahor.
I think for a team that probably isn't oozing confidence, playing a strong team against probably a weakened Blackburn with a new team/formation could be good for the team. Especially as we are playing on sunday, tiredness won't be too much of an issue.
This should be the team, and hopefully with Friedel in goal, it will be the team against Wolves.

Press conference is going to be live on the BBC website.
-
Let's remember that this statement first appeared in the French press, the Evening Mail have just lifted it from there and then Sky have copied it.
It wouldnt be the first time the Evening Mail has just copied an incorrect source.
I would be amazed if he has made that statement after take the Villa job when we have finished 6th for the past 3 seasons. It doesn't make sense.
-
Interesting that a lot of people have used Heskey in a list of poor Houllier signings. Didnt realise he scored 22 goals in his first season, only two behind Owen.
Yep, he can sign any striker he want's if they go on and score 22 goals in a season.
-
If we finished 4th I wouldn't be surprised, but then nor would I if we finished 8th.
I bloody would be.
-
To be fair tho Rob, this last week there has been way more negative posts than 7% of the people posting
Nah, I just think it's more tha the negative people like to make themselves heard more.
-
Jol was never going to leave his club in the lurch at this stage of the season. We would have to have kept KMac on till the summer if we were serious about having a crack at Jol or Moyes.
Why? Do you think been in the bottom half of the table would have helped us to get either of them?
-
can i ask what youths came through his system folks.because im sure Stevies G ect where already there before GH took charge..
Houllier took joined Liverpool in July 1998, Gerrard made his debut in November 1998. He also eventually made him captain.
-
The idea of Houllier is growing on me a bit now but we better forget what it was like to get players through from our youths scheme as Houllier seems to have more the Medusa touch than the Midas touch when it comes to young player.
Gerrrad seems to have done well considering Houllier brought him through.

Davies was 8mil
Point of order:
Wasn't Davies a £2m loan for his first season and then signed for £8m the following summer. £2m + £8m = £10m.
Nope, it was upto £8.5 million, so it would be surprising if that is also one of the reason he hasn't featured in a Premier League game for a while.
Same with Fabian Delph, he was reported to be 8.5 million in the press, but we actually paid considerably less than that when we signed him as it was based on appearences. Ken Bates confirmed that.
-
I will be pissed off if he comes here, takes over our club and buys loads of players I think are shit and wins 6 trophys. What a **** joke that would be!!!
-
I thought that the reason Houllier sold Carew was because he felt that Benzema was a similar player and he wanted to play him.
Houllier certainly wouldnt be my choice, but we didn't seem to have many options so seems like the kind of manager that we could help set up scouting etc, and if he doesn't do very well we would have a bigger pool of managers to pick from the end of the season.
-
David Moyes would be barmy to leave Everton for Villa. Some fans really need to open their eyes to reality.
-
He won some trophys though and took over a pretty poor side.
He can sign all the shit players he wants for Villa I you ask me if he wins 6 throphys and leaves the next manager a team that wins the Champions League
-
Then you have the problem that say Moyes or Jol for example actually wanting to leave their current clubs...?
Personally i would go for a lower league manager who have learnt the hard way, but we've ruled that out with the premier league experience criteria.
I also see why they want that to try and carry on MON's work..
Agreed, Paul Lambert for me, non of the out of work managers linked inspire me at all so give someone a chance from the lower leagues. Or O'Driscall from Doncaster.
-
Have a look at the players he signed for Liverpool, people say MON wasted money. Some absolute shockers
-
I put 10 quid on Hughes this morning, someone on betfair was offering 180 to 1, just for £6, then I put 4 qui on him at 50-1. Not much chance I know but that would be 1400 quid if we managed to get Hughes
-
For manager I would have Paul Lambert, we haven't got jack shit money to spend so might as well go for a young up and coming manager.
-
You dont get to Randy lerner's position without having half a brain.
And an extremely rich daddy.
Happy for him to buy the club and pump millions in, stop the millions coming in and....
I think there is a word for that.
Tight?

Would be tempted to give Ireland a go in a midfield two with either Sidwell or NRC tonight.
If either Sidwell or NRC gets injured, we going to need him to play there anyway.
