We really must move on from this selling mentality. We can now afford to keep players to see how good, or otherwise, they are.

We don't need to sell off our better prospects to make ends meet.

that is until FFP kicks in. I (and everyone else) don't want to be selling our best & brightest academy prospects & players every year, but we have to compare us with the likes of Man City/Liverpool/Chelsea. Each year they have a couple academy prospects/players whom they sell and that significantly increases their FFP headroom with potential signings. This is the landscape of football that we are in. Why is our academy strategy to sign a whole load of promising teenagers when it's more than likely that they will not amount to a PL level player? Return on investment.

and as @turvontoursaid, we haven't really been a selling club for a while. In the last decade, we've sold 4 players for over 15m Benteke, Chuk, Grealish, Targett). that's absolutely dreadful compared to others. Chelsea have sold 7 players this window for more than 15m, Brighton, Man City & Liverpool have all sold 4 players over 15m in the last year. We have started to change a bit (with Ings, Chuk & Targett) but it is something we have to get used to.

All that being said, I think 10m for A Ramsey is ridiculous. I would expect closer to 25m ish for him considering the market. I'd much rather keep him around & loan him in Jan if he is desperate for playing time...

  2. I'd like to see him around the squad this year. Don't think he's suited to playing as a lone striker up front. From what I've seen, he's probably 3rd choice after Durán for me.

Raya probably going to Bayern Munich (amazed Spurs didn't sign him). If that happened though I'd be in like a shot for Matt Turner.

Played well for US in the World cup and I've been impressed with his level in Arsenal cup matches, very commanding on crosses and good shot stopper (remind you of anyone....).

29 so he's at that age like Emi was where he'll want to go and play somewhere more regularly so to me that would be good insurance if we get to next summer and Emi decides he isn't signing a new deal so we might look to cash in then.

Forest being heavily linked to signing Turner as the #1

Grealish was undoubtedly our best player. As much as I love Dougie, it's arguable that he is. Kamara is for me.

I’d argue that we’ve seen us be pretty good (our 2 best performances imo) were without Kamara. We’ve not seen our performances without Luiz

Posted on another thread earlier - but shouldn't we be renaming this thread?

iirc, he dropped the Bidace last year & the commentators have been only saying Philogene… not sure if that will change on his jersey though

It’s a lot of money… Brighton have a habit of selling for multiple millions every season and finding someone just as good to replace them for peanuts, whereas we don’t.  Selling Dougie could well be the start of doing that, and to be honest, it’s probably something we need to be able to do. We shouldn’t ever struggle because we sold one player, like we did with Grealish…

Brighton I feel may well be at a point where they don’t need to accept such offers and can probably hold out for even more. I think we may need to accept offers that are north of 60m for our players from an FFP perspective. We generally spend a lot more than they do on players.

if it was someone like a McGinn, I’d be more willing, but in my eyes, Douglas is our first or second untouchable player. We’d have a hard time finding someone at his requisite level that can slot in immediately.

This has probably been answered, but does anyone know the £ amount the shirt sponsor (BK88 or whatever) is worth?

    I'll be **** if I'm looking through 50 pages :)

it's reportedly double what we were getting from Cazoo iirc

All your Spanish full-backs are belong to us.

was listening to the pod earlier. these definitely make sense, considering most of our coaching staff and Monchi have very good connections within Spain. Would love Fresneda as most know but each of them would be good signings with solid first team experience

I’m not saying Luiz is terrible. He is tidy in his play and comfortable on the ball. However my main gripe with him is his effectiveness as a midfielder. He doesn’t score consistently, he’s not very tenacious in the tackle and rarely creates anything. Yes I did see his pass for Diaby’s goal last night against Fulham but how often does he do that in the Premiership or in games that matter? For example Man U Casemiro absolutely schooled Luiz the last time they met but that was very quickly swept under the carpet here. That is the quality of of top four teams which Villa are trying to break into.

I generally feel that Villa have suffered from a lack of goals from their midfielders for a very long time. Villa haven’t really had a consistent goal scoring mid since Platt or indeed a dead ball specialist!

Thats why I feel Prowse would be more effective than Luiz while still being very good technically.

Luiz was our highest scoring midfielder (6 goals) & had the second most assists (6 assists, 1 behind Ramsay) in the whole squad. Not sure why you’ve singled out Luiz on not being creative other than you personally don’t rate him when the creativity argument statistically doesn’t make sense. And as @Jas10has posted, Dougie’s underlying numbers are very good

Comfortably our best outfield player right now.

Came here to post both of these. He's our best & most important outfield player. His ability to progress the ball in possession is something that was lacking somewhat in the first half.
