But WHY are you disappointed that we why for the tried and tested safe choice? That makes zero sense to me.

Mostly because I think it will end poorly regardless. Given our new owner's megalomaniac statements thus far, I'm rather surprised he didn't go for gold now. Fwiw RDM was also the sensible, tried and tested type, albeit younger and with a slightly better cv.

Wagner's achievements to date are being top with Huddersfield after 11 games.

    That'd be a HUGE gamble.

Absolutely. Hence the wording 'interesting proposition'.

I'm just disappointed we went for the unemployed, 'tried and tested', safe choice most are so delighted with. I'll change my opinion once we get promoted.

He has been out of management 3 months mate not 10 years. He managed in this division last season and others managed to nullify his tactics well enough that Hull came 4th and won the play offs. I am not aware of an influx this season of these so called managers with a modern outlook on football in the Championship that will suddenly render Bruce useless.

Fair enough. I guess most managers in the Championship are relics like Bruce then. Wagner at least seems different, and too me as an interesting proposition. I'm certainly not an expert in regard to this division.

Firstly, before we talk about Bruce developing talents like Grealish those said talents need to take personal accountability for their piss poor attitude to their profession. Would you agree ? Secondly, Bruce has given young players opportunities in the past on many occasions.

I would. Grealish attitude hasn't been good enough, not even close. I'm sure he'll be given opportunities, like most of them. Will our new tactics and style suit the likes of young Jack et al, get the best of them, is another issue altogether.

Install an identity and play on the front foot. Give us something to cheer about and we'll repay tenfold from the terraces.

This. It's really all that it takes, and I'll eat humble pie until the pigs start flying, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

  6. I'm presuming Bruce is gonna set us up quite old-fashioned, with 'safety first' predictable tactics, and this to me is the biggest worry. Managers with a more modern outlook on football will most likely be able to nullify or outplay us. Furthermore I fear for the development of young, promising talents, such as Gresford, etc.

Also I don't buy into the notion that 'tactics and formations' do not matter. They certainly do, and anyone suggesting otherwise need a reality check.

Judge him on what he does for us now. Everything he has done in the past has been a different situation, with different players, with different kinds of boards.

An excellent point. I'll do my best.

Honest question.  How do you plan on approaching the next say 8 months?

I honestly don't know. It's not going to be easy. I'm actually still clinging onto the faintest of hope that it'll turn out to be someone else. And before anyone asks, Yes, I am deluded.

    "Please get behind the manager"

As I said, well said. All fans should be doing that right now. Not moaning on a message board about how boring and piss-poor he is.

I'll always get behind Aston Villa football club. Steve Bruce on the other hand, is an altogether different issue...

Tony sounds like he's trying to justify the decision.  Must have had the SHA link explained to him.

There really is no way of justifying the appointment of Steve Bruce.

Terrible way of thinking that you're getting a manager for a short term gain and you'd want him gone when he's done it. But it's only a fan thing to think this way. There were people who suggested Sherwood was the same - save us and then chopped for an actual manager. He wasn't, of course, and we're worse off because of it.

Xia thinks we'd be top 5 club in a few years. :D

I didn't imply I want him gone, if by some miracle he manages to get us promoted. I meant I think it will all end miserably, and he'll be sacked once Tony realizes how poor a manager Bruce is.

  12. I really feel underwhelmed by this appoint. To me Bruce is uninspiring and average. I've honestly never seen anything in any of his teams, tactics- or otherwise to suggest he knows all that much about football. Like many on here, I too get it, he's been in this situation before, and he's managed to get teams promoted. Great. Still, it's nothing more than a short-term solution imho. I would have hoped for a little bit more from our new owner.

  13. I honestly have no clue as to who we should bring in. I only hope it'll be someone who'll be able to set us up properly and actually be able to win a football match for once. All this talk of MON, Sherwood, Warnock, Bruce, etc., just makes me wanna stop following football altogether.

  14. I think we'll see a comfortable mid table finish this season, perhaps even top 10. I think it's easy to write us off, considering what's been going on lately, and the fact that we've had three piss poor seasons in a row. Still, I don't buy into this pessimistic view that seem to be the reigning opinion on here. I don't blame anyone for thinking we'll get relegated, but looking at the squads of newly promoted teams, and of those that finished close to us last season, we should be able compete quite well.

I would rank Burnley, Leicester, QPR and Albion far worse than us, at least on paper. The likes of West Ham, Hull, Palace and Stoke seem on par with us, imho. Also I think our first eleven when fit easily surpasses all the aforementioned teams.

The far bigger concern for me is, will we have the hunger and needed attitude to compete, and what if our counterattacking "tactics" fail, will we have a plan B!?

    He's going to walk.

Can't see it as much as I want him to.

His reputation has been severely damaged not only with his performance at our club but his chief lieutenants have been put on gardening leave pending an investigation.

If he walks now leaving a club in turmoil because that's what it is after Lerner's statement then no other Premiership club would touch him with a barged pole.

The way I see it he will stick for the time being either using the excuse that the new owners wanted their own man or if given more money he will try to buy himself out of trouble.

The problem is he will still want to play with the big man up top and any better players coming in will still be stifled with Lambert's preferred system.

He is one lucky, lucky man at the moment and really if he plays it right only an idiot would **** it up again.

I'm not saying this is the correct tactical way forward, but I seem to recall a certain Chelsea team doing quite well with the 'big man up top' some years ago. Also I certainly don't for a second think that it will hinder us from getting better players. Having Lambert in charge on the other hand...
