That’s what I thought.
Then it descends into the absurd and the pacing is all over the place. Plot lines left confused (even if there is another season.)
sadly it seems like the show runners are great at the set up (ala GOT) but when it come to nailing the landing they fall flat in their face. It’s so obvious this is an abridged version of the original material which means they’ve failed imo.
The music also irritated me and actually made me angry. He’s just copied ALL of the soundscapes from Westworld. What a clearing in the woods! It is identical - what a missed opportunity!
Just like the book then? Solid start then a descent into nonsense.

Very much my experience. Saw her grow up from age 1 to 8. When things with her mother came to an end, she tried to blackmail me with access to the wee one. There hasn't been a day in the last few years where I haven't missed that child. If I loved the kid that much, I often wondered if I'd love my own kid more. All moot now though.

Yeah, I'd imagine most people will have heard it. It's a classic trance track; great era of dance music to be fair.
When you’re gurning your nuts off, it’s a banger. Any other circumstance, it’s a migraine.

I haven't been but the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul is the biggest market in the world. I will visit it at some stage.
Doesn't meet the brief as it's indoors.
I was there in February though and it is pretty impressive. All the moody Louis Vuitton and Gucci you could want. -
Shouldn’t be a surprise but I am still amazed at the brazenness of it.

Could have sworn we had a consumer advice thread somewhere but seem unable to locate it, so I'm sticking it here for now. (Mods, feel free to move if there's somewhere better for this to sit).
Received in the post this morning, a £100 fine for not having paid a parking ticket last month. So far, so normal, except I've never been to the place where the parking infraction took place. At the date/time the ticket was issued, I was working at home, with my car in view through the window the whole time. The photo evidence provided is the same make, model and colour as mine and the registration matches but there's simply no way it could have been me. Annoyingly, there's no particularly identifying features on my car to distinguish from the one in the photo.
I'm guessing if I contest it saying "It wasn't me, Guv", they'll give me a fairly swift response of "don't care, pay up".
So, I could pay the fine as I don't have time for the hassle but I'm not sure what other options I have. Any suggestions?
Self-quoting to update.
Perseverance is key. Took three emails for them to respond but respond they did and they've now cancelled the ticket. In that time, I'd had three threatening letters. I'd provided them with footage confirming my car wasn't where they said it was and copies of my notifications to the old bill and the DVLA. No response from DVLA or Met Police to me telling them my ARN had been cloned.
I suspect they presumed if they kept threatening, I'd pay up to make it go away.

I always find it amusing when people use Woke as a pejorative term.
Amusing and instructive.

Not really a gig but was at the Buxton podcast recording tonight along with all the beardy 50-somethings of London. Richard Ayoade was the main guests but in the second half of the recording Frank Black comes on stage and plays a bunch of songs with Ayoade playing lead guitar. Was amazing to see how effortlessly Frank can crank out some Pixies classics with nothing but a beat up old acoustic guitar.

It nails the epicness and scale, looks incredible, costume design set design cinematography all bang on... But it's a bit boring... Scott's bitten off more than he can chew, it's covering way too much ground and badly lacks focus, it's not really said or shown anything about what he was or why he was great I don't think he develops he just kind of is, people come and go and I'm not even sure if it's assumed knowledge or Scott just doesn't care about them or expect you to care about them, maybe the 2nd half goes in to one particular time period but everything I've seen so far looks great but goes nowhere
You’ve seen all you need to see. Possibly more than you needed to see. It’s just more of the same for another eleventysix hours.
It looked great and some of the set pieces were ok but the whole thing was lacking in so many aspects.- 2

Kinda funny but I do wish Labour would try and push things back to politics being a serious thing rather than just scoring cheap points (although that’s probably an argument for the other thread).

Why do 95% of the blokes going to Cheltenham dress like Peaky Blinders now?
I only ever went a couple of times but these guys (predominantly scouse) ruined it for me. All lagered up and looking for a ruck from the moments the gates opened.

Il Postino (The Postman)
An Italian film set on a Mediterranean island, where a famous South American poet is exciled for being a communist.
The plot is basically a twist on the play Cyrano de Bergerac (Roxanne).
A postman tries to persuade the guy to teach him how to write poetry so he can woo the local beauty.
Very funny, charming and touching.
As adaptations go, it's good but it's no Roxanne

Did you hear the opening to his statement?
He had apparently positioned himself behind a giant flag, started spouting his nonsense and all the journalists were sniggling, one assumes, because a giant flag was saying it wanted it's country back.

Biden does seen to have had moments of confusion and verbal slurring/ mumbling.
It's well document that he has a stammer. I'm not saying that every instance can be attributed to this but for me, it goes a long way to justifying when he trips over his words and doesn't come across as clearly as he could. Having a speech impediment is no indicator of a lack of brain power.

Absolutely stunning.
I must confess to being slightly underwhelmed by the first one but if you view it as a prologue it makes more sense.Just reading through the thread and see that @Designer1 had the same thoughts re Walken. Slightly jarring for me and didn’t really work. Other than that, it was really enjoyable and even at 2 and a bit hours, it flew by.
By far the biggest disappointment was the lack of Dune 2 popcorn buckets.- 1
