Also, why are Spurs being bailed out by the Bank of England? They shouldn't be allowed on the scheme. They've basically got zero per cent interest rate loans. One of the richest owners. Clubs will be going bust in lower divisions. Slap in the face.

I think because they have a stadium they can’t afford with the prospect of no fans and no champions league football for a long time so I would say they are trying to avoid a fire sale of players.

League 2 not coming to a decision on relegation isn't just about promotion from the National League, Stevenage are only three points from safety, with ten games still to go and have a game in hand, no reason why they should be relegated or that Barrow who were only four points clear of second place with nine games still left to play should take their place.

Agreed same as Leeds and West Brom haven’t earned promotion and we, Norwich Bournemouth haven’t earned our relegation yet. I just don’t see how you can promote and relegate teams without completing a season

I always thought that the football league would be fairly agnostic about it as losing Leeds but gaining Villa is about the same in terms of away support to the other teams  and tv interest.

I was thinking more from an “integrity” perspective the idea of insisting one league finishes so you can relegate teams but another not finishing but you promote teams seems the opposite if integrity to me.

  4. Just out of interest what’s people’s view on the championship restarting this season ? I personally can’t see it happening given how many games in total would have to be played. My reason for asking this is that we could have a situation where the premier league is told it has to finish at all costs and relegation can’t be removed and then the championship is ended and potentially we have that decided in a points per game basis which could would leave teams in the premier league relegated having completed the leagues replaced by sides from the championship who didn’t and therefore got promoted without earning it over a full season. Also in that scenario it would I guess promote wba and Leeds but what do they do with the play offs ? Promote 3rd or only relegate 2 teams ? I feel the is still far more questions than answers

  5. This whole restarting the season again is obviously about money which i get as that’s what the premier league is all about but I can’t help thinking that if Liverpool were not so far clear and add in the fact they haven’t one the league for 30 years I don’t think the would be such a big will to start. If Man City were two points clear I think most people would just say it’s unlucky

  6. Is it a given Utd can even afford him given all the financial uncertainty with clubs at the moment And given that Utd are supposedly buying sancho the defender from Napoli etc. I’m sure the probably is some truth in the story but with Utd wage bill each month with no money coming in must hurt them more than most. Plus while the papers say jacks going on one page they are also saying on the other page that transfer markets are going to stagnate

I don’t think Everton are bigger than Spurs, Spurs are higher in the table

I was basing my spurs are not a big club on the fact they never ever win anything. League not won since the 60’s FA cup 1991 league cup something like 2008 and no European success that I can recall that’s my basis of Tottenham are not a big club although to be fair I don’t think Everton have one much in the last 30 years either.

There is no way that public gatherings are going to be reintroduced anytime soon. It could easily be 6 months before fans are allowed back into football matches. I predict lots of live football being played behind closed doors between now and then. I just can’t see any alternative!

That’s still not that easy though for a start no gatherings of more than 2 people outside of those in your own house. That rules out training I am assuming? Games behind closed doors still require plenty of staff along with 34 players so it’s the best part of 60-80 people as a minimum. I assume any game even behind closed doors would require essential services such as police to keep away the inevitable idiots that turn up still outside the ground plus ambulance crews both of which have more important jobs to do right now. Really at the moment talk of starting football again even behind closed doors should be put into context. The idea of going past the end of June for me means that next season is already lacking credibility, going to July is just madness. I would rather they said if football isn’t possible by day x then the is no choice but to void the season.

  9. Not a like for like example by any means but English rugby has voided all leagues below the premiership. Still not clear what the premiership will do! Probably exactly the same but I guess the is a bit more money at stake so they might have to give a bit more thought to it

Yep, it’s possible to get away with having just one season affected but the stuff that’s being thrown around would impact next season, at least, too.

It’d be like cutting off your nose to spite your face, surely there’s no way this season can be finished whilst maintaining the integrity of the competition.

Agree with this completely. I think the integrity is greatly dented by the virus but a must finish a season at all cost just strips all integrity not just for this season but also the next one too. Even without all of the issues with extending this season and there are many including player contracts etc. When would next season start? When would clubs begin pre season? Any clubs who have changed leagues up or down how would they adjust there squad ? Unless the season starts again on 30th April and they cram games in the is no way you can avoid essentially ruining two seasons.

the is no way the seasons starting back on 30th April which the premier league well knows so all they are doing is putting off the inevitable but as many people have already said with people dying in Britain and over the world football really isn’t that important

agreed. i reckon domestic and possibly even continental cups will be scrapped and you'd just condense the remaining 10 games + the full fixtures into next season. few week break in between for a transfer window perhaps

on that basis though how would a transfer window work? i know the has been a lot of talk about contracts expiring etc but how could a club prepare themselves for next season adequately if the season goes on till say Mid/end of July because lets be realistic about this its going to be mid may at the earliest before things could feasibly get going again and perhaps even latter. just pushing back the end of the season solves one problem and creates another 10. As with every possible solution if the leagues don't start playing by a certain point in the season then it makes completing the season very unlikely. I think all of the football leagues need to agree some timescales and outcomes against those timescales.

  12. given that smith was a centre half and terry was an outstanding centre half what do they do in training? how can any side be this badly drilled from set pieces. leicester should have had 3-4 more goals from corners/crosses and we didn't learn at all. Its amazing how bad it is

Sure you can't fault his work rate - and he makes some great looking last ditch tackles - but his passing, positional sense, and decision making are close to zero.

add into the mix of bad qualities he has for a fullback, ball  watching. I lost count of the number of times James Justin who i might add was playing his 4th ever premier league game coming from league 1 was able to get in behind Guilbert because he was watching the ball rather than having any awareness of where his man was. I don't even want to think about how many times Barnes took him apart.

He looks like a guy signed by a team in mid table in the championship which is exactly what we were when we actually signed him.

  14. As ever with villa it’s not the losing it’s the nature of the defeat not even laying a glove on Leicester. This really is as bad as it gets, no intensity no skill no heart. I think we are heading for a well deserved 20th place finish. Also Gilbert and Engels have no business On a premier league pitch

I really like him but it’s touch and go whether he’s good enough for this level. Passion and tackling aside, if we’re all honest, he probably isn’t.

He isn’t even close to being good enough

  16. Why do we hear talk about needing a new left back and very little about a new right back. This guy is bad at everything he looks like a guy we sighed for the championship which is exactly what we were when we signed him.
