  1. With the academy build in Witton and the new North stand in the pipeline I do wonder if we really don't have the funds available for transfers that fans think we have. After all, Alemany is being lauded for getting players into Barcelona on a tight budget, at a time where they were working under restrictions.

    I guess time will tell.

Possibly because they've never had coaching this good?

In addition to this, they now have a serious threat to their starting places sat on the bench so they know if they don't perform they're out of the team?

The defence is a strange one simply because, as mad as it sounds, Mings and Konsa were never supposed to get this good!

  4. Maybe offer him in part exchange for a player from teams going down. Ward-Prowse? Barnes if Leicester go. Gnonto from Leeds? Proved he can do a job in the Championship and those teams could afford his wages.

It’s all about opinions, some players we are linked with, we’ll agree on and some we won’t.

    We don’t in this case.

I don’t think he improves our starting XI.

If Emery does and buys him, then I’ll support him 100% and hope he’s brilliant and I look stupid.  At this point, it’s just a link, maybe genuine or lazy link, we have no idea if Emery wants to bring him in.

Based on me watching him for Spurs a lot and less so but still some obviously for his Spanish teams and also for the national team I’m not a fan on him being brought in because I don’t think he improves our starting XI.

We all want the best for Villa, we just happen to disagree on this player link.

I hear your fears Nick but, I think you are forgetting that Unai can polish turds and make them look like Faberge eggs.

    But why not?

The only downside for me is that fans attending games will have to do it on a Sunday afternoon and the atmosphere will be flat because of it

Everything else surrounding it is a myth and fortunately I think we have a manager who will see through it

I think it would be better than the europa league... We could play more youth players and have a genuine chance of winning the conference league... I know that's arrogance but I also think it's the truth, we could play Tim and AJ in group games and still go on to win the whole thing

I don't doubt we could win that Conference League but we will need to play more than the kids to do so. It's damaged West Ham this season in the Premier League.

It would give us a better platform to sign players and also get fringe players games, which would keep them happy.

If we get to 60 points that would be amazing. Think we might get a draw at Anfield and we will beat Brighton. See where 61 points takes us.

Sod it! Go to Anfield, score an early goal, frustrate the life out of the smeggers and get them on their players' backs, then score a break-away second towards the end. Villa win 2-0.

Surely the best display of a team using a high line all season? Seeing son's reaction for being offside for like the 6th time just before the final whistle was beautiful.

Son must be on his way back to London on the coach tonight feeling like he should be on the train. The guy was literally offside all afternoon.

  9.

We need a new, quality, back-up 'keeper.

We need a right back to either start or challenge the starter.

We need another central creative midfielder.

We need at least one wide attacking forward. If only one, it needs to be from the right.

We need another centre forward who scores goals.

That's without Europe. With Europe, we another centre back, and another wide attacking forward.

  10. I have noticed a nice pattern recently that intrigues me as a fan of racing. This is for flat racing when horses run for a first time in a handicap. This will be the handicapper working based on the horses first few runs and has no knowledge of whether the horse was really trying in those previous races. I've been seeing what look like nags starting in a handicap for the first time and being well backed. They're either winning or going very close. Something to keep an eye on for sure.

    Todays' runners are:

    Roman Blaze 2.25 Ayr - currently 18/1 from 22s on Bet365.

Sunfyre 4.35 Ayr - currently drifted out to 12/1 from 8s on Bet365

    Blue Hawaii 2.05 Southwell - currently 7/2 from 3s on Bet365

    Lynwood Lad 4.40 Windsor - currently 5/1 from 9/2 on Bet365

    Hy Brasil 6.45 Windsor - currently 50/1 from 80s on Bet365

True Legend 5.35 Newcastle - currently evens from 11/10 on Bet365

    Gonnelot 6.05 Newcastle - currently 5/2 from 9/4 on Bet365

In the 8.10 Newcastle there are three:

    Sidney's Son - 6/1 on Bet365, Banquo - 13/2 on Bet365, Brocklesby - 20/1 on Bet365.

I'm going to watch the markets on these today and maybe have a flutter on any that get well supported

Fabulous album, but when I first played it I thought my record player had broken. Then I used by brain and figured out that it was pressed at 33rpm. Is that common for albums these days? My first time coming across this.

    Edit: 45rpm lol

I thought I was alone in being an owner of a Katatonia album that didn't feature a Welsh bird singing.

  12. I think we need to replace Bailey and Coutinho with players to either start in those positions or at least be capable of starting in those positions. We need another right back to start or fight for that place. A new, reliable back-up 'keeper and a striker.

For the record, if take nobody from Everton or Leicester if they go down.

I wonder if this is an old story being regurgitated or if it's actually happening now.  Here is a story from February with all 3 names listed as well.  Says either Villa or Barca are signing the group and there is a lot of confusion as to which club has made offers to the team.

    https://sportwitness.co.uk/confusion-aston-villa-approach-transfer-chief-one-offer-villans-another-club/

Lange's recruits that he was being crucified for under Gerrard are starting to look good under Emery, so it seems a bit harsh to give him and his entire scouting/recruitment staff the boot for another regime.  On the other hand, Cordon's group have performed miracles at Betis and the parallels to Villa are eerily similar.  The club appointed both Cordon and manager Manuel Pellegrini in 2020 they took the club from 15th to winning the Copa del Rey and qualifying for the Europa League on a shoestring budget.  They're currently 3 points off a Champions League spot in La Liga with a squad composed of a lot of former flops from across Europe and very good young talent they've scouted.  It would possibly be a very big upgrade in the recruitment side of the club if these guys do join us this year.

There's no denying that team of recruiters have been impressive. If we have been after then and succeeded in getting them in we have an incredible sumer to look forward too.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Nas and Wes going all in on a Spanish management/coaching/recruitment structure. The current top two clubs in the league have Spanish managers.

  14. I'm really happy for Ollie. He came here with a big price tag for a young guy from the Championship. He's done his very best each time he has played and with proper coaching his hard work is now coming to fruition. Well done Ollie!

It’s how you quantify the word best i suppose. I think he is, the football is great, im enjoying it and we are winning matches. I mean, we had three 6th place finishes under O’Neill but the football was turgid.

    Spot on!

Also, remember until just a few months ago when, what seemed like forever, we always seemed to have no more than one good half per game. Today, we played well throughout the whole game. That is so evidently better than what we've seen for the last few years.

The players are all together and all happy. We have a genius as manager and our owners, if they're serious about reaching the top, need to throw as much money at Unai as financially possible.
