He would be good for a team who play three central midfielders

I don’t believe JWP is an upgrade on the current midfield. At best for us he is a specialist player who you could bring on when chasing the game, hoping to get a free kick within range. Yes he could start 20+ games a season, but Emery wants players who are an upgrade on the current squad.

The game could well be going that way with a free kick specialist, but can’t see him sitting on a bench for Villa or the club affording him for that role.

If Coutinho was fit I wouldn't have in this game other than a late sub and same for any other tough match left this season

I think it's having the confidence that there is someone on the bench in the case of injury. I'd rather all those players playing or on the bench than what we currently have. Your right though, he's not starting in front of Ramsey at this point in time.

  3. The potential and ability was always there with Luiz, you could see it from when he was signed, fans forget how young he was at the time. Now we are seeing the player who week in week out can run the midfield and will only continue to improve.

  4. I've been worried the last couple of weeks that the squad was getting thin, with Coutinho, Kamara (re-injured) and Cash succumbing to injuries, but Dendoncker was able to come into the side and do a job. Credit to the player.

    He’s clearly not.

I had exactly the same view, he's starting to look like the player we thought he could be for the club, but there were 2-3 moments during the game where he was knocked off the ball to easily. Not sure whether a technical or mental issue but he needs to work on it.

Then he made a mistake against Stevenage ( A mistake other " favourite " players have made ), and became the worst footballer in the world again.

    Villa fans are the best.

Can you point me in the direction where I bagged him…?

    My mind hasn’t been changed.

Long way to go on this case, the FA have leaked this twice now to the Daily Mail and Toney has issued a statement of his lawyers concerns. He has not admitted his guilt to all these charges so this will run now till the summer.

I read this thought it was a load of BS. It’s just his lawyers and him trying to put pressure on the FA to reduce what will most likely be 6 months out.

I read the article and compared it to previous bans and came up with @6months myself. The media has done the same, no fantasy stories of leaks as Toney and his legal reps are alleging.

Toney is just trying to make BS up about the media to get the FA to go soft, not like the FA haven’t been soft before….

  8. For me the context of Emery’s conversation with the reporter after the match has been lost. He was asked by the reporter wasn’t him bringing it up to throw Martinez under the bus.

He said he didn’t tell Martiniz to go forward or never asked a keeper to go forward becuase of the stats involved. Then went on about not being happy with the team performance.

Maybe there’s other interviews I haven’t seen, but IMO he just didn’t feel it was necessary and in line with a few players making decisions during the game that don’t reflect his game plan.

As much as I love Emi, if someone wants to throw silly money at the club to sign him and Emery gets GK that suits his style of play, bye Emi, especially if he wants CL football.

  9. It was refreshing to see Emery call out the team that it wasn’t good enough. It sends a loud message to the players to say it publicly, they are all on notice that they need to improve. Unless things improve, and I think they will, but if they don’t, it may be a bigger clear out than we all thought it may of been.

  10. I don’t want to see Martinez go, but when you see comments attributed to him regarding wanting to play CL football and Emery wanting a keeper who can play with his feet, it’s not rocket science.

Emery is the boss and if he believes another keeper can carry out his game plan better and manage the defence as well, then I can see a scenario where we cash in on Martinez, make a huge profit and reinvest in the squad.

  11. He was targeted yesterday by Leicester, they knew he is often the release ball when under pressure at the back and they had a player onto him straight away. If he had of moved the ball quicker, then two of the goals don't happen.

Not entirely his fault, but we need to be smarter to beat these traps.

Our best football is always ahead of us, that's the problem.

Fact is, if your not spending, your not achieving f*** all.

I don’t agree with that at all, it’s a fallacy.

You can spend money and not improve the team, we’re trying to improve the team, sometimes we just need to be patient.

  13. It was quite obvious the club wanted Guendouzi (club wouldn’t let him go from reports) and Williams (didn’t want to move, at least in this window).

We can go back for both and hopefully have the deals done in the summer, with a new CB and Stiker.

Our best football is still ahead of us.

I agree it should be the right player, I’m not advocating for bringing in just anybody I’m just surprised how (with 24 hours to go) how we haven’t been able to do that beyond Moreno and Duran.

You and me both my friend.

I’m worried about bookings, injuries, form, options…I think it’s a gamble especially 8n the attacking areas.

Personally I’d rather we bring in the right player in the summer than sign someone who doesn’t make the squad better.

I expect one of two through the doors today, but I could be wrong.

If he doesnt come now I doubt anything will happen in the summer.  How often does someone move once it's out in the open in one window that they move to that club in the next window.  It does happen in rare cases but generally parties are looking elsewhere next window.  You think back of all our past windows, I'm struggling to think of a player we were interested in one window (and it was very public) and we signed them in the following window instead......

There were rumours about Sanson the previous window before we bought him in.
