Vital win, with some of the teams below playing each other over the weekend a loss could have seen us drawn closer to the relegation zone than is comfortable, but as it is we're now ten points clear. Some big games tomorrow, Wolves v West Ham, Everton V Southampton, and Forest V Leicester.

Would love it if leeds went down.

I don't think Emery is elite.

He is known as an europa league coach doing best with underdog clubs rather than the huge clubs with expectations to win.

He had only won one league title and that was with PSG.

He is probably in the category just below elite but I'm excited to see what he can achieve here and if he can take us into Europe.

    Are you Jamie Carragher?

  3. Not sure if he was doing the buying at Arsenal but the transfers in his first summer didn't age well.

    Leno £22m now at Fulham

    Papastathopoulos £14m now at Olympiakos

    Torreira £27m now at Olympiakos

    Guendouzi £8m now at Marseille

    =============

    Martinelli £6m still at Arsenal

    Saliba £27m still at Arsenal

Pepe £72m on loan at Nice

    Tierney £25m still at Arsenal

    Luiz £8m at Flamengo

  4. Personally, I think it was a case of the players had no idea what they were supposed to do. I mean it wasn't obvious to me what we were trying to achieve under Gerrard.

I think it was a case of be compact and try and do something in the final third.

Very much looks like Danks was looking for 2 players holding in the middle with Watkins and Bailey told to stretch the play, Emi looked to have a free role but told to always make himself available and play quick pass and move football.

Have we established there was a us v them mentality in the coaching staff? As I know a few have suggested it wasnt a nice environment.

Dont you watch the Champions League? The Best league in the world by far. I'm guessing no, because you've never heard of him

I only see moments of magic from the attacking players, we know ours aren’t capable of that.

I seen on Twitter that Mendes is trying to get Amorim to move on, so he can engineer a move for Ronaldo to Sporting.

Shaun, VT is one media base....and is not representative of all opinions, Villa.

Having said that, many on here, got what they always wanted...even though, I don't doubt, like us, they wanted to win games.

I found the early naysayers, strange and unsupportive and too quick to jump to there ultimate conclusions, maybe they thought my views were too supportive and ultimately too late in my conclusions.......having said that, after 12 months, they were right....he's gone.

I think, it started to go a bit questionable, since January, when the first signings were made.....personally, I have not been convinced, by Digne, and Coutinho's form has left him.......They both look lightweight to me.....and I don't like Lightweight teams and they made it worse, after Phils form drifting away.

VT was disappointing for me, rather than unbearbale, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, if its explained through.

Anyway..... we will see what the new guy, can do......lets just hope the decision was right, and the next guy can do better.

    UTV

I think we can all agree when appointed everyone wanted Gerrard to be a success.

I mean the Portuguese league is certainly not the standard of the PL but let's not try and compare it to the bloody SPL.  It's levels above Scotland.

He also sold about €110m worth of talent last summer which shows an ability to develop and nurture talent. It's no wonder Stevie bought 38 odd players at Rangers and didn't bring one with him.

Just watched Brendon Rogers post match interview supporting Steven Gerrard and he can f*ck the right off, Christ on a stick these managers are paid enormous sums of money to get grown men to play a ball game a couple of times a week and win a few games, and when they don't the get the sack and get enormous sums of money to get rid of them. So save me the bloody sob story, Gerrards job was to win games, he didn't because he is shit, and he was sacked. I don't want an apologist for that as our manager.

Makes sense to me, if I was in the relegation zone with another club I'd be looking for Villa to give Gerrard as much time as possible.

He has to get fired for a contract pay-off, right? That's normally how it works? Or, alternatively, his lawyers could approach the club management for a negotiated exit? I'm wondering what kinds of long-term issues Gerrard's lawyers might be thinking through at the moment, so that he leaves in a decent situation.

Mutual termination, usually they will pay off a good chunk (almost all) of the contract.

    I accept that.

so do we keep changing managers, because we can't get other things right, like recruitment?

    is that the alternative?

Brentford must be delighted in that we take their manager, striker and one of their decent prospects for the bones of £45m.

They buy a better striker for £5m, get a better manager than we now have and are higher in the league than us all in what 3 years?
