  1. Stevie Stevie Stevie Stevie STEVIE STEVIE!!!

I know it's only half time but what happened to your total pessimism and a heavy defeat Troglodyte???

...and BTW did you happen to pick any anti depressants for me on the way back from KFC???!!! :winkold:

I got a happy pills mega bucket 8)

I didn't say a heavy defeat was definite either, just possible, although I did think we'd lose - very happy to be wrong though!

Seeing the replay, good reactions by Sidwell for his goal.

  2. Actually he was talking shite, as he said it was **** for good. Which isn't the case.

Well I didn't mean he was never going to play again, he injured his shoulder last year and now again it seems, you are far more susceptible to future injuries once you did it once as it has been weakened.

Like a knee, once cartilage is injured or removed (for example in a an operation) it does not grow back.

Sorry if you thought I meant he was finished in the game or something like that.

No worries. Guess the on-topic section and people stating everything as a fact has gotten me into a bad mood.

'His career is over and MON won't bring in a replacement cos he's crap in the market and has missed out on Upson and I hate my life' ....FACT

    ;)

  3. Yes, I expect both clubs to show respects to Sir Bobby.

And one to watch, Gabby? Can't see that one! Unless he has flown out, but it doesn't seem so.

I think we'll lose this one, possibly quite heavily. Porto are a good team, and we're depleted to say the least. Some of our best players, such as Carew, probably won't last the full 90. It's the first time I've ever put a bet on Villa to lose tonight (and I'd never do that in a non-friendly match). So I still want Villa to win, but at least I get a bit of money if Porto do, as I predict.

  4. Extremely impressed with Albrighton, he just needs to learn to hold the ball better, and maintain some composure at times. Hopefully, that'll come with age. Looks a cracking player.

Thought Guzan did well; wasn't so sure about the defence, though. Davies didn't look too composed and I'm still undecided on Cuellar. I think we definitely need a big, commanding presence to replace Laursen and play alongside either of these two (probably Cuellar on form). Didn't think Lichaj looked good enough for the first team at all - I'd be very worried to see him playing in the PL, but hopefully that won't be the case.

Sidwell often seemed to disappear in midfield as usual, although I think his contributions often go unnoticed. I'd still rather see him replaced by a creative attacking midfielder with a lot of flair. NRC did well at breaking up play, much better than Petrov in such a role, but he can't pass anywhere near as well.

Carew was alright, but as usual I wasn't impressed with Heskey. I think we need another striker, and I'd love to see someone like Tuncay come in, who could play the AM role or up front off Carew (or Gabby, as I think he's effective as a holding striker and him and Tuncay up front would see us playing a lot more football on the ground).

In general, we turned the game around well. Looking forward to the semi finals!

  5. Recently finished this...

    Incredible book.

    Wiki page

I intend to read this one some time soon. It's been recommended to me several times. Also, Johnny Depp (who I think is fantastic) is starring in the film adaption, so I'd like to read the book before the film comes out (same applies to The Rum Diaries).

Read 'Library of the Dead' by Glenn Cooper earlier this week, thought it was quite good.

  6. Albrighton looked very threatening, but I sometimes felt he should have released the ball sooner. Looks a very bright prospect, though.

Lichaj looked decent but his defending for their goal was very poor; you can't afford to make mistakes like that. Also felt Friedel could have done better.

Sidwell doesn't seem good enough for where we want to be. NRC was poor - his passing in particular.

I'm sure we'll look better in the season, especially considering we were missing the likes of Agbonlahor, Downing, Bouma, Milner, Gardner etc today, and Heskey (whatever anyone's opinion is) came off very early on. We'll add to the squad too, of course. I was slightly disappointed with the performance today - poor match in general - but at the end of the day it's only a friendly and things will change before the season begins, I'm sure.
