  1. i hate all this "doesnt work" cr ap all the time. when brian clough managed you never heard people saying that players "dont work". they need to make it fking work!! if petrov "doesnt work" in a 442 because he cant keep up he needs to get fitter/better/learn to make it work rather us just accpet it as though it is something set in stone. apparently lampard and gerard didnt "work" together, but strangely a manager who knows how to use them best has got them both playing in the same team and looking invincible.

I agree to an extent, although I think most people saying that Petrov "doesn't work" mean that he's not compatible in his current position witht he formation we're playing, just like Gerrard and Lampard weren't in England's previous formations under McClaren etc. Now Fabio has changed where and how they play, they're working - just as when we change where and how Petrov plays (ie one of three midfielders), he's more effective.

It's about other players too, ie Barry was added to the Gerrard/Lampard midfield for England, and they blossomed. There's a similar argument here, that NRC should play in a midfield alongside Petrov and Sidwell/Delph/Downing or whoever.

  2. Thought this was the Luke Young thread?

Seeing as we are talking about Beye though, I think he's been alright, but does look out of position quite a lot.

Hopefully Luke will be back soon, although after reading that article I'm more than happy for him to take his time.

  3. Brilliant, brilliant signature, Julie!
I agree, it's brilliant. Although the pedant in me notices the date is wrong.

    Same here.

I don't usually rub it in to any of my mates who support the opposition when Villa win, but had to send a cheeky one to a Liverpool-supporting comrade. He'd arrogantly said before the game that the best I could expect was a draw because it's at Anfield, possibly unless Ayala or the Greek guy played in defence.

    Ha.

  4. Right, as happy as I am, I'm absolutely infuriated with Alan Green on Five Live.

I know Ash can play-act, but when he went down recently Alan Green would not shut up about how he was 'faking' it and called him a cheat THREE TIMES. He was clearly annoyed and said "and he's not world class either Martin." He then had to eat his words when he conceeded that he may actually have hurt himself on his fall. In fact, he's coming off now, and Green's not bothered commenting any further. He wouldn't shut up before.

I just cannot BELIEVE that they never say anything about their beloved Gerrard's antics (same applies for other players) yet they're quite happy to jump on Ashley because he's not at everyone's favourite club.

It even sounded like Mark Lawrenson disagreed with him. (edit, I don't think it was Mark Lawrenson, but still)

If I'd heard it myself I would be complaining to the fecking BBC about that as it is slanderous and totally out of order.

I actually think I'm going to after the game. Doubt they'll do anything, though.

I understand that sometimes on the radio, things are said just to gain a response and get people to phone in, etc. This clearly wasn't one of those times.

    Absolutely out of order.

  6. On BBC online:

BBC Sport's Phil McNulty at Anfield: "Aston Villa fans demand a wave from boss Martin O'Neill - but he pointedly refuses. Maybe he is locked in concentration, or he is remembering the jeers his team received during and after the opening day defeat at home to Wigan."

Reckon he is ignoring the fans?

Wouldn't blame him after the reaction from the fans after ONE defeat.

Part of me agrees, but I would also like to think that many of the fans there didn't boo, so don't deserve to be ignored.
