O'Hare Lyden Clark Clarke blackett Taylor all off contract after this season?
I'm hoping now that the window is over we would be handing out new contracts. Other clubs usually make the kids sign extensions and then send them out on loan. We don't want to lose a few of them and come back to bite us. Even if they don't make it here we could sell a few here and there. Madness to let a few go who actually look decent.

Let's not forget the guy doesn't speak a word of English. Hope he starts taking classes. Hard to move your family in January. Plus they rate him enough to want to keep him for their promotion push. Least we got him locked in as apparently he's a very good player.

Grealish talent is there for all to see. Unfortunately he has come through at a time where we have had awful anti football managers and he basicatis still a raw talent who has never been coached. I can't think of a manager who has improved him. Yes he had a spell and in a way Bruce/Terry had an impact on his attitude and professionalism but has there been a manager who sits him down and tells him what he does right and weong and improve him as an indiviual. He seems self taught where as these tottwbokids for example get good coaching and learning have have improved much faster. I hope Dean Smith can teach Grealish when to attack.. where to attack.. where to be to receive the ball.. not to dwell on the ball too long.. move it quicker etc. If this happens... We will finally see the true potential of the lad.

I don't rate Elphick highly, but he's a better option than James **** Collins. The bloke is ****. A 35 year old who has played 13 games in the last 18 months.
Has JT just hung up the boots.. doesnt seem hes going anywhere

Not based on the Brentford match where he cost a goal.
nor the weekend or even the cup match last week. Hes been poor in the air. Maybe why Bruce doesnt fancy him at CB. But why on earth did we sign him to play at RB? Madness again from Bruce.

I want Bruce gone, completely, utterly and without hesitation BUT let's step back a second here and really think about the accusation that he's sabotaged our defence to engineer this situation. It just can't be the case. There'll be a team working on all aspects of comings and goings and it's not as though he's secretly sold/loaned players behind the owner's backs!
There's been a massive error in judgement somewhere and he's definitely partially responsible but it simply can't be sabotage in this day and age. At worst he's convinced the powers that be that we can make do with what we've got and will have to admit fault and plea for a free agent - hardly makes him look good to his employers. More likely, the team behind the transfers, SB included, assumed they had a replacement for Elphick and it all went t*ts up.
I still think this Terry story has grown from fan hope to column filler based on nothing whatsoever and he's is not coming back. Whilst the need is so obviously there I think Bruce won't admit his mistakes, the owners don't want to bankroll this kind of player and Terry won't want to be seen as a desperate last resort. Not happening in my opinion.
I dont know.. it is quite an over sight to think.. ok Chester Tuanzebe (kid on loan) are my only CB's available. Most managers will tell you that you need 4 at the club. So we are actually 2 down.. but Bruce considers Mile a CB now (sackable offence alone)
Now Bruce is a smart guy.. hes a defender.. hes been managing for years.. there is no way in hell he was not going to bring in a CB. A few failed bids on the final day.. He has played our new owners. Well done Steve. Although it just might back fire on you when they hire JT to replace you.

I get the sentiment but I don't think he is the answer.
We have enough 'old heads' so to speak in Hutton, Jedinak & Whelan etc.
I think we would have got that big lad the other day but I have a feeling when it came to Bruce selling the club to him he was told a heep of shit to put him off (Because he was not a Bruce signing) and therefore the player has said no thank you - without cleverly burning his bridges with us.
We lack organisation. I think Terry is exactly what we need.

5 hours ago, hooter said:copy and paste re this "Bielsa burnout" factor. I know Keith Andrews and similar football brains have accepted it as a fact, but it isn't obvious when you look at facts.
Now please don't take this as smugness , or a declaration of our promotion (I remember a tweet "announce avfc championship winners" just before one of your friendlies last year, that went well...) but what it does do is show whatever pitfalls may await Bielsa's experiment (and I don't doubt there are many), this "inevitable burnout" stuff is a bit lame and uninformed, I'd settle for beaten Europa league finalists right now, maybe that proves how small time we are.
"It has become received wisdom that Bielsa teams burnout and cannot sustain their form over the course of a long season. You would think that this would mean that his teams tend to win fewer games and accrue fewer points as the season goes on. I had a little look at his previous seasons in management to see if this was the case, going back to Velez Sarsfield in 97/98. The first thing to remark on is that there isn't a huge amount of data. In the last 20 years he has only completed 4 full seasons of club management. He didn't take a single game with Lazio in 2016, only had 14 with Lille in 2017 and only 6 with Espanyol in 1998 so they aren't really worthy of analysis in this respect. The rest of his time was spent in international management which obviously doesn't have the same regularity as club football.
I decided to split the seasons into four quarters to compare points tallies across the year. Taking it in chronological order:
Velez Sarsfield 97/98. (NB: the Argentine season in this era was played in two distinct parts with two champions. However, it was effectively a 38 game season with a long winter break between the end of December and start of February).
- Matches 1-9: W4 D3 L2 - 15 points
- Matches 10-19: W4 D5 L1 - 17 points
- Matches 20-28: W6 D2 L1 - 20 points
- Matches 29-38: W8 D2 L0 - 26 points
Athletic Bilbao 11/12
- Matches 1-9: W3 D3 L3 - 12 points
- Matches 10-19: W3 D5 L2 - 14 points
- Matches 20-28: W3 D2 L4 - 11 points
- Matches 29-38: W3 D3 L4 - 12 points
Athletic Bilbao 12/13
- Matches 1-9: W2 D2 L5 - 8 points
- Matches 10-19: W4 D1 L4 - 13 points
- Matches 20-28: W3 D2 L4 - 11 points
- Matches 29-38: W3 D4 L3 - 13 points
Marseille 14/15
- Matches 1-9: W7 D1 L1 - 22 points
- Matches 10-19: W6 D1 L3 - 19 points
- Matches 20-28: W3 D3 L3 - 12 points
- Matches 29-38: W5 D1 L4 - 16 points
So bearing in mind that I only looked at regular season league matches and haven't gone back beyond the 20 year mark (as I don't think this popular reputation for burnout comes from the distant past in central and South America) we can see that the points totals are fairly evenly spread across the four quarters. At Velez the league form got stronger as things went on, whereas at Bilbao there is pretty much a consistency between all sectors. At Marseille the team got off to an absolute flyer and were top for a while before slipping down the table but the dip over time wasn't especially dramatic (they finished 4th) and that kind of blinding start followed by a tail off wasn't characteristic of his Bilbao team.
If anyone is interested, I also found this analysis of statistics relating to the Marseille pressing tactics: https://saturdaysoncouch.wordpress.com/2015/04/08/taking-a-look-at-this-years-bielsa-burnout/. The takeaway point is that measured by possession turnovers in the attacking third there isn't anything particularly remarkable about the effectiveness of the press. Moreover, although the press did drop deeper as the game went on the ability to score goals late in a game appeared undiminished.
It seems to me that the reputation for burnout comes from (a) the blistering start that Marseille made, which realistically they were never going to maintain and (b) the defeats that Bilbao suffered in the Europa League and Copa Del Rey finals. Suffering at the final hurdle is often put down to exhaustion but it isn't reflected in league performance as far as I can see.
At some point we will go through a sticky patch as does every team and it will undoubtedly be put down to burnout because that is the media narrative for Bielsa. We aren't going to maintain a 2.6 points-per-game average regardless of physical fitness. But there is no real reason to think that we are going to completely collapse either.
No one gives a shit

There is no way Abraham is coming here, he only has two in front of him at Chelsea and if you think about it he has nothing to lose by staying at Chelsea until at least January, he would still be able to get a loan move to the championship no problem.
He he stays and someone gets injured, suddenly he is right in the mix.I agree but he is a target.. so my point was.. we know a few things are in the fire and im sure theres a back up.
-
so if Kodjia is out will he start RHM upfront against Shefifeld. He will more likely play Adomah upfront and people will get on his back when we lose playing players out of position. He needs to back these kids.. not stick it to them when they dont perform.

No, he was about to join Bordeaux only he didn't get any guarantees about transfer budget. Also I doubt anyone is going to like an agreement where it's "we'll give spudface a chance but when he turns out to be shit like we think he is then we'll give you the job after the transfer window has just closed".
or he was going to join Bordeaux and got a call from NSWE............ 'wait... you might be needed at VP'

bit odd that its the evening of the 29th and we don't have a clue who our targets are.
Abraham is target no.1. He is probably waiting for a bigger club overseas to take him on loan? So maybe we havent ruled it out yet. We must have a back up option. Tavares? we were linked with a few weeks back.
We also know hes after that French kid for CB and Targett for LB.
I wouldnt be too concerned.

Bolasie and El Ghazi will start. Adomah will be first to replace one if injured. Green will likely not be making the bench. Its for the best he gets some games and gets his confidence going.
Not to mention if we sign Abraham.. Kodjia can move wide left/ride so.. this adds to the competition for places.

I reckon Henry is on standby... as soon as we lose 1-2 games in a row... i reckon new owners will pull the trigger

Looked good pre-season, I know he was suspended for the 1st 2 games, but he should be playing at right back, but Bruce will keep tuezebe there
Tuanzebe is a wasted loan if we signed him to play RB only. Surely he will eventually go in the middle. That means.. Elmo V De Laet for RB. I dont mind either but i think Ritchie offers more. Speed.. better crossing.. better defender.

I think so but most wouldn't have cost us a lot at all and would have made us a small fortune back.
Have done this a number of times on here predicting players before they become more well known including one Hakim Ziyech who i saw for first 8 games of his career at Heerenveen. I emailed Paul Lambert as he was available for £2.5mil at the time and i was blocked next time i went to email him about another player.
Saw a young unknown Juninho at Villa Park against Sweden for Brazil. Wrote a letter to Doug Ellis saying how good he was as was available at the time for a low fee. We went for him 5/6 years down the line when he was leaving Atletico.
This is one of the reasons i got into scouting a year ago. As was told by people over years my predictions have been on the money so thought scouting? why the hell not and went for it lol!!
I knew about Mark Delaney at Cardiff year before we signed him after he was getting rave reviews after signing from Carmarthen Town so watched him and he was brilliant we signed him a while after and also Shaun Teale at Bournemouth as i went watch Bournemouth game in 1989 and he was immense.
mate you cant be any worse at picking players than the people weve had running the scouting the last 5-6 years.

He was the best player in pre season. How can he not be starting?
The fact that he can play across the back four.. yet we stick Taylor who is an awful left back and cant play anywhere else on the bench instead?
Seriously.. what is Bruce smoking.........

It's on the youtube, currently 1-0 up thanks to an OG.
First time seeing Revan, he has impressed me. Physically impressive for a young lad and far more aggressive than Suliman.
agreed. Like the look of the right back Walker. Put in some awesome crosses and gets forward well.

Playing against football U23s who I am told are a very good youth side and honestly he is streets ahead of this level now, he could play this game half asleep.
Someone get him a loan.
agreed. So calm in the middle of the park. He will be a proper leader some day. Not sure what level he can reach but he will be a decent one if he can stay fit. Definitely needs a loan.

Saw fenerbsche signed Diego Reyes on a free. Only 25. Would have been perfect for us. Good centre back who is in his prime.

At full strength he will be our left back
Mings Axel Chester Elmo
Even though Elmo had a horrid last few games. He was alot better at rb then Hutton is. He at least got like 5 assists this season.
Other option is playing Chester or Axel at RB and Elphick starting.
