Hopefully we can move on now and none of the Spurs players are looking for a real excuse for retaliation in the return fixture.

I think the old days of retaliation, out of sight of match officials, disappeared when VAR was introduced. Any retribution guaranteed to do damage to an opponent is likely to be counterproductive.

That Cash tackle was a pure yellow, cynical and pointless, but an everyday nothing foul most of the time, and now with the news that Bentancur is ok it looks like Spurs fans got conned by their own player not being able to take a knock

Exactly. I've noticed a change over recent years - too many instances of what are clear yellow card fouls being claimed as possible reds. I suspect it's caused by the fans tending towards exaggeration to get noticed above all the other noise on social media and the media pundits need to add controversial talk points to drive up viewing numbers and clickbait.

Cash's tackle was calculated and late but not forcefully uncontrolled or dangerous play. His tackle was just one of the many footballing offences that yellow cards are for.

I can't recall a saltier bunch of fans after we've beat them, Newcastle last season maybe?

In fairness and despite some lingering 'sob on the Tyne' bitterness, I think the majority of their fans accepted they were well beaten that day and they were soon distracted by their own CL qualification.

    Social Media for you.

Possible your guy was contacted by someone else who saw Ty's social, assumed incorrectly and then began passing it on. I suspect that would cover 95% of ITKs behaviour!

The article says that UEFA require the stadium to be used for a year after expansion for testing. Can we finish it in 2 years?

The estimate was 2 years and that was including the new Villa Live building, so 2 years including creating  Villa Live facilities in the existing academy building should still be feasible.

I don't know how funding for these projects works but i expect that the recent news about the council having to fork out for pay equality will cause issues for anything like this. If services are being cut i cannot see them forking out 10s of millions for a station upgrade. And rightly so.

    .

I think I read that transport infrastructure in the West Midlands is not funded directly by Birmingham City Council.

My current guess for the short term future of Villa Park is -

Phase 1 to be commenced in summer 2024 or summer 2025. Either date will ensure completion of a 50k capacity in time to host the summer 2028 Euros.

No major redevelopment of the station beyond a minor tarting up of signage.

50k crowds increasing match day congestion delays, causing fans to complain to the club and local residents complaining to Birmingham City Council, who will then blame each other.

I have had a call today, telling me there is a rumour of some bad news.....I too hope its false.

This call you received - were they claiming some kind of ITK status or were they honest enough to state they'd simply noticed Tyrone's social media update?

Yes if that was the case then 10 points is fair.

Purely for the £19m overspend on an accounting technicality and ignoring the issues that  @OutByEaster? posted about (which the commission didn't rule on)...

4 points seems fair. Someone posted about the PL discussing 1 point per £5m overspend which is a good standardised metric to deal with it.

Alternatively, as the commission ruled it didn't have any footballing advantage, maybe a 10% fine of the overspend and no point deduction.

Everton told the PL that a significant part of their attempt to meet FFP regulations was thwarted by not being able to sell valuable players during a pandemic. I find it surprising if the commission ruled there was no footballing advantage to keeping, playing and benefitting from the performance and points gained from those 'valuable' players.

I want Red Bull to get a second driver who isn’t shit so people realise Max is not all that.

That's just one of F1's issues - it's often more about the relative performance of the cars than the drivers skill.

Perhaps they should race drivers in exactly the same cars, or use self-driving cars with no performance limits (no safety restrictions required without drivers) to see how fast competing engineering teams can 'drive' a vehicle around a circuit with onboard views to make the audience feel involved.

It's more that he's just a word removed.

He'd still be a word removed if he wasn't winning because he's a word removed.

It seems over recent years this could have been written about numerous egotistical, self-indulgent, self-obsessed, #blessed and all that, drivers.

  11. I think their bunch are convinced the new hedge fund owner is in for the long haul and will invest whatever it takes to turn them in to an established top league team for the first time. Do they realise their type of owner isn't typically going to do anything more than the equivalent of flipping a house by fixing a leaking roof, reglazing broken windows, a lick of paint and then buying a feature advertisement in Good Home magazine?

The previous owners abused them so much that even comparatively cheap common sense decisions, like repairing their decrepit stands, has been extrapolated to an upper PL future in a new 60k stadium. As such, many see Rooney as leading a long term change in their footballing fortune. How much patience will the goodwill towards the new owners buy Rooney, if he continues to offer poor results and a footballing style that was worse than Eustace's? How long will the owners give it if they're still stuck in the Championship for another few years?

I think it means it moves to points, goal difference and then goals scored against the other teams in the group.

But if, after equal results between two teams, they are still level, it then goes to a difference in points (a) against other teams in the group, they wouldn't be level to even start the comparison.

It should state that it goes to goal difference (b) and then goals scored (c) and NOT even reference points (a).

I just listen on the way home in the car talking calls and emails. I can't dp anything with music on.

To be fair the mornings are not to bad with Mcoist, then it's Simon Jordon 1000 till 1300, then it's Hawkbee and Jacobs which has the weekend game round up, but then it's Goldshite and Darren Bent. Benty's okay, but I do not understand who would appreciate the ego mad Goldstein, he is terrible, typical United fan too.

But you can dp to talksport?

Does anybody actually know what’s going on with Duran. Has he been injured or is it a falling out of some sort? Seems odd he isn’t getting many minutes.

Infected toe. I'm guessing it's an injury that prevents playing for a period and then is ideally left unstressed (competitive gameplay) for another period. Okay in the match day squad to help him feel included and to feature on a bench of 9 players (guessing Emery knows of an unlikely scenario where Duran would be required to play despite a small chance the recovery might be set back), but Duran wouldn't have been on the previous benches of 2 or 3 or 5 players.

I think that in the future they'll use the AVFC app combined with the wallet on your device. I don't want to carry a card. I've not carried a physical wallet since before covid.

I also haven't used a physical wallet for a couple of years and pay for everything using Google pay on my phone. I don't find it much hassle to shove my ST cards in my pocket, although I obviously need to remember them before leaving home. Can you add an ST card to Google wallet so you don't need the card at the turnstile for PL games?

  16. 8 minutes ago, limpid said:

Why hadn't you added the ticket to your wallet? Much quicker to use NFC than scan and only requires tapping the "add to wallet" on the pdf they sent.

I had added the ticket to my Google Wallet but didn't realise that then enabled NFC for 'tap on' entry. It took 2 seconds to scan my readied QR code so caused an unnecessary 1.5 second delay.🤦‍♂️ I'll know better next time! Hopefully so will those fans who get to the turnstile and then start folding paper tickets or unlocking their phone and starting to search for the ticket.

I'm still curious why ST cards can't be used for access to cup games? Got to be around 50% of Thursday night's home fans that could simply tap on as they are familiar with for the 19 PL games and reduce those queues.

I used a quick tap of my phone.

It was other fans who were using paper tickets or being slow to access the QR code on their phone that caused delays to enter Villa Park (in comparison to PL games where around 75% of home fans quickly tap on with their ST card), so you're definitely off the hook on this one!

I had my phone already showing the QR code which took 2 seconds to scan, so it wasn't me either, but I'm curious how to enable the 'ticket' to be able to tap on?

Has anyone asked the club why ST cards can't be used for cup games purchased by ST holders?

  18. My son queued from 2 minutes before half time to 5 minutes in to the second half (over 20 minutes), to be told the chicken he'd ordered and paid for had sold out so they needed to refund him. An unacceptable delay and unacceptable stock level in the Holte Upper.

Given the high prices, the club are missing out on some serious profit, by not shifting as much food and drink as they logistically should be able to.

Why has getting people through the turnstiles in a timely manner suddenly become so difficult?

Sell out cup games with tickets on paper or phone to be scanned takes that little bit longer than a quick tap on with a season ticket. I usually arrive at the Holte Upper 15 minutes before kick-off. It typically takes a minute or two to queue, be searched and go through the turnstile. Last night it took about 4 minutes. Still okay in my opinion, although I did walk past queues to the Trinity Road entrances that looked like they might take longer than 5 minutes, which isn't so reasonable.

hardly raving, but more a typically useless summary on why he made the 11. Amazing he still gets paid:

Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea): Cristian Romero had been sent off - again, Micky van de Ven pulled his hamstring and limped off, James Maddison was taken off, and all in the first half.

Then, just when you thought it couldn't get any worse for Tottenham, Destiny Udogie makes an unnecessary challenge and receives a second yellow card.

With nine men left on the pitch and Spurs the architect of their own downfall, due to a combination of stupidity and recklessness, the stage was set for Chelsea to take complete advantage and Nicolas Jackson did just that. He finished all of his three goals very calmly.

Naming a hat trick scorer in a team of the week after listing exactly why it wasn't a performance typically worthy of a place in team of the week. That's so Garth Crooks.
