  1. I don't know the details of the deal re. fee and wages for Diarra. Yes, I agree that a first XI striker is the main priority for Spurs. All the noises are that the club is working very hard on this on, but in difficult striker-market conditions. Possibly they'll announce someone no-one expected or believed would sign for Spurs, or maybe even more than one new first XI striker. I live in hope. As for cast-offs, the main players to depart, I would imagine, are Hutton, Keane, Palacios, Dos Santos, Bentley and maybe Bassong (but only if we sign another CB). I guess maybe Crouch could also go if we managed to sign two new strikers, but right now most Spurs fans would be ecstatic just to see even one new striker.
  2. Sandro has been a hit so far, so no chance of him being sold. But he has picked up an injury during pre-season which will keep him out for maybe the next 2 months.
  3. Lassana Diarra done deal for Spurs it would seem, as an upgrade on Palacios who is leaving I think.
  4. Because of things that are being reported outside of the press by various informed people (not me). And also because it makes sense: Hutton is not really needed at Spurs whilst Villa could do with a RB and he'll get more playing chances with you than at Spurs. Plus McLeish knows Hutton well. I'm not saying it's 100% (nothing is until a contract is signed), just very very likely IMO.
  5. Hutton to Villa seems very, very likely.
  6. I've only YouTube clips to go on and his impressive U-17 WC stats. But yes, at age 16 he's been surely been signed just as a 'prospect' - your guess is as a good a mine as to whether he'll prove to be the business, given that many don't continue to develop as hoped. Still, I'm pleased that Spurs continue to invest in this way: if we don't buy some tickets then we can't win the lottery.
  7. Souleymane Coulibaly signs for Spurs: "We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Souleymane Coulibaly to join the Club. The 16-year-old striker hit nine goals in four games for the Ivory Coast during the recent Under-17 World Cup - which included a hat-trick against Brazil and four against Denmark - to secure the golden boot and equal the tournament record ... Souleymane had previously been part of the youth team of Italian side AC Siena."
  8. The bet offered is quite straightforward: Modric will still be a Spurs player when this summer window has closed. No if, or buts, and regardless of how much is offered for him and which club offers it.
  9. yes, BUT Only if the nails were manufactured after 2010, nails from before that time are irrelevant (statistically speaking of course) I'm open to a bet on the subject, if any VTer is so confident I'm wrong.
  10. Why? I'd say it's mainly because we now have Corluka and Walker to compete for the RB slot, so don't really need Hutton, and thus that his sale will bring in some cash for use in improving the team/squad elsewhere. The degree of happiness will depend, of course, on how much he's sold for, assuming that he is sold. I'd reckon the going rate would be 5m, maybe 6m tops. Anyone who gets him for less will have done well. Personally I think he's a decent RB - certainly better than the Prem average. Can be a bit rash defensively from time to time, but he's quick, tough and pretty good going forward.
  11. Not in this case. As I said on here weeks ago, it's nailed on that Modric will be playing for Spurs this coming season.
  12. Does anyone have a reasonable explanation as to why Martin Jol was ignored and let go to Fulham? He has Prem experience - with a much bigger club than B'ham City - and has achieved two successive 5th place finishes in the Prem. I find it totally baffling.
  13. Villa have missed a big trick in letting Fulham snap up Martin Jol. He's a guy that knows the Prem well, took Spurs to 5th two seasons running (which is higher than MON ever managed at Villa) and sets up his teams to play attacking, entertaining football. Moreover, with his direct knowledge of football in England, Holland and Germany, he'll be well clued-in when it comes to identifying a wider pool of potential transfer targets. I'm not sure where this leaves Villa now. Unless Moyes can be persuaded to jump ship, you'll be left with either taking a big gamble on a manager who has no Prem managerial experience or else appointing a current or ex-Prem manager - e.g. Hughes - of inferior calibre to Jol.
  14. What has this got to do with anything? HMRC have charged him with tax evasion (over a trivial amount compared to his annual income I might add, which begs the question: why would he bother?). Has he been found guilty yet? No. And even if he is found guilty, tax evasion is not the same as corruption. Corruption is the illegal receipt of money (or the equivalent) in return for favours granted that are usually against the best interests and/or rules of the organisation or business which employs you. Has he ever been found guily of corruption? No. Has he ever even been charged with corruption? No. Levy is amongst the shrewdest of club chairmen, and Spurs are certainly amongst the best run clubs in both the Prem and in Europe. So it's very unlikely that he would have appointed Redknapp if he thought that he was corrupt. The trouble with some VTers is that they accept rumour as fact when it suits their prejudices.
  15. What a load of bollocks. * Corrupt: what has he ever been found guilty of? Answer - nothing. But I'm sure you "just know" he's corrupt, in the same way that some other football fans "just know" that Wenger is a paedophile. * A liar: what has he lied about (apart from maybe feigning denial of interest in signing a player that he later has signed)? Answer - nothing. * Completely egotistical: this conclusion is based on what, exactly? * Disloyal: do you mean unlike O'Neill, who walked out on Villa just days before the season began? * Club destroyer: Yep, the heart and soul of Spurs is being wrecked by the prospect of playing against Real Madrid in the CL QFs, no question about it. How did we ever let Harry drag us down this far?
  16. Spurs play in various ways, including wing-based play (more than any other team in the Prem) and keeping the ball on the deck, as well being able to play long balls. It's called tactical variation - and this variety has helped to get Spurs into the Champion's league.
  17. Yeah, I got that one wrong .... because it's a surprising transfer in many ways: * The 24m fee * Moving from a club in contention for top 6 and Europa league place to a club that's in a relegation scrap, at least currently. * Lerner splashing out so much cash again, following your big accounts loss last time around. For 24m, which is a staggering sum, I genuinely see it as something of a panic buy. Still his fee is much less than the cost of relegation, so it'll be well worth if he helps to keep you up.
  18. Most add-ons get paid eventually, unless the player completely flops (which Bent hasn't), and relate to things like number of appearances, goals scored, avoiding relegation, England caps, selling at a profit (which Sunderland have done) etc. Nor have I slagged off Bent - in fact I've said he's a good striker and have previously said that his record at Spurs was good in terms of goals-scored-per-minutes-played. I don't think he's worth 24m, but that's hardly an outrageous view nor is it tantamount to slagging him off.
  19. Why would we be bitter? Since Bent left we've finished 4th and are now going well in the Champion's League - so it's not as if we've especially missed him. Besides, we received 16.5m for selling him. And now we'll get - due to a sell-on clause in his sale contract - 10% of the 7.5m profit made by Sunderland on his 24m price tag to Villa. I think you've overpaid for him, but he's no doubt a good striker and will certainly help a lot in your battle against relegation. However, it looks like Villa will be heading for another massive loss in your next set of accounts because your wage bill continues to be huge and your spending spree of recent years continues. So either Lerner will continue to subsidise you or else the sale of Young is around the corner. I'd guess the latter.
  20. You want to criticise me for merely pointing out that Kranjcar's contract does not expire in the summer? What's sad is that you'd apparently prefer footballing discussions to take place on the basis of "ignorance is bliss". Any reasonable poster, one actually interested in proper discussion, would not object to having accurate information supplied. But then I guess, as the ongoing "hate thread" re. Redknapp/Spurs has made abundantly clear, there are some VTers who are mainly interested in venting abuse and see football as a convenient vehicle for so doing.
  21. His contract does not end in the summer: it runs until summer 2013.
  22. Again, putting a period of history into its proper context is not the same as denying that it existed ... sorry if this is a difficult concept for you to grasp. The Bugatti analogy is a false one. It's not that Villa were the most advanced team of their era, it's that the majority of today's teams weren't in the league structure to compete in the first place. PS. Breaking news: peppering your posts with childish insults doesn't increase the strength of your argument. Sorry if this comes as a shock.
  23. Are you actually able to read and comprehend what you've read? It's not a question of my refusing to acknowledge Villa's Victorian era trophies - I have simply put these achievements into their proper historical context, namely that of big fish in a small pond. You are the one who is refusing to acknowledge the reality of things - by pretending that winning the league title in the 1890s is as big an achievement as it became when the league became fully formed, when in truth it doesn't even come close: all the proof needed for this view is provided by the fact that Villa won the title 5 times in 6 years during the Victorian era, but have won it only once more since WW1.
