  1. Depends if he signs a new contract I suppose (which is the rumour)

BUT I'll never feel the same about him again, until this summer there was a little part of Barry that was me, not anymore

    Agreed entirely.

Right now I want him to f*ck off, but should he stay and commit his future to Aston Villa by signing a new contract then I'll be happy to keep a quality player who'll be motivated by his England ambitions to do his best on the pitch. It's the results that matter, after all.

But he'll never be the same Gareth Barry in my eyes. It would take A LOT to forgive what has happened this summer.

He will never be the same in any Villa fan's eyes.

I'd rather keep him cos he's simply class, and it's one nil to us v the top 4 in their quest to nick our players. Coming up next......Young to Manu with them opening the bidding at £12m...

  2. Oooooohhh!

how close. My vote has just tipped it 51% "Yes".

Taking EVERYTHING into account, and not just summer transfer activity/inactivity, then Yes, I am a pretty happy bunny.

We have a great owner, a great manager, some great players, and are in 'Yurp for the first time in a good while.

so, plenty to be happy about.

Just be nice to sign one or two more decent players, that's all.

Well yes, but the title is are you happy 'at the moment', so I presumed that meant with the current dealings or lack their of.

If the poll was 'are you proud to be a villa fan?' or 'are you happy with the way the club is being run at board room and management level?' it'd be 95+% of happy happy fans.

  3. Having just got back from a short break away, in which I cut myself away from the thrills and spills of Aston Villa I've returned and instantly a dark dark cloud has cast it's chilling shadow from above.

We still for my money, are not looking like getting the quality we need in to seriously compete and Spurs have signed the one player I saw as a guaranteed star for us. No, he may not have been any good at all for us, indeed, he may be go on to be crap for spurs, but in my eyes he was the player to show we meant business. Instead we look to be losing our captain and not filling in gaping holes in the team.

I hope beyond hope O'Neill knows what he's doing because in this day and age where fans memories are short, I am very worried for the start of the season in which I can see us very possibly losing the first 4 games, and I worry things could turn nasty and suddenly transfers would be falling through and we'll be signing Knight's instead of Davies'. The small squad will be decimated by fatigue and by xmas we'll be way behind the desired 4th position and out of all the cups and European competition with Manu to come in the 3rd round.

Anyways, Martin has proved me wrong before with fantastic results, and excellent league position, so I dearly hope that the team gels well and we get off to a flyer because nothing cheers my weekends up more than when Villa get a result.

  4. Season 2 was no where near as good as season 1 IMO.

Had it's moments, but it was the classic chasing the baddie format I loved in season 1.

  5. Yorke played badly in a single game becasue he no longer felt an attachment to the club and in order to force a move.

Barry had a bad game at a time when he was under pressure from large sections of the media.

Yorke played at a much lower level than his team mates in the game before his move.

Barry was by no means the only Villa player who underperformed against Wigan.

There are differences LTLOAV if you choose to see them.

For me, it was wrong to boo Yorke (at least until his badge kissing) and it would be equally wrong to boo Barry.

I think it's pretty well documented that you don't like Barry, you wanted him dropped before the speculation started, you've been desperate for him to leave since the first links came up, and you've never rated him as a player. The idea that others opinions are full of bias and therefore irrelevant is silly. It is other peoples opinions that frame our own, that's why I still bother replying to your posts even though I believe your mind is closed.

If you don't believe that Gareth Barry deserves our respect for the years he's spent here, well I think that's a shame and I feel sorry for you in that we have been lucky enough to have seen a player that has been the clubs best servant since Gordon Cowans stopped playing and you've never stopped to appreciate him.

You're fully entitled to that opinion though, just as I am entitled to mine and tomaszk his. Feel free to disagree, I'm sure you will. I look forward to seeing your choice of smiley and the name of the imaginary club you put me into.

Oh look another Barry cheerleader  , erm as i said you can't have one thing for Barry and another for Dwight, it's been confirmed by Mon that Gareth was effected by the speculation and therefore performed poorly against Wigan, so the specualtion had a DIRECT LINK to his performance, just like the speculation had a direct link to Dwight's performance at Everton, because you can't tell me he would have played that way had he not been linked with Manure, so what's the difference?, NOTHING, but because you and your pal think Barry is worth more than life it's self you paint a different picture, and excuse me i keep having to ask you this when you roll out that tired old line regarding me "not liking Barry" can you find me a quote where i've expressed those feelings please?, because i can't remember me ever saying i hated the guy, but just because i feel we can go on without him that's obviously a reflection of "hate" lol, at the end of the day i've only said that if Yorke was a much better player for us and still got booed than Gareth deserves the same, sorry if that doesn't fit into your dream of rolling out the red carpet and scattering rose petals on the ground for him as he steps off the scousers coach on his return.

Do you read posts before replying? Are you a bit too quick to get your lovely smileys down and you start typing before you engage your brain?

The difference has been explained but if you choose not to see it that's fine.

I think your exaggeration there typifies your attitude and a reasonalbe debate cannot be had on the subject. I bet you were so pissed of when Barry scored at the weekend, because then you could have had 2 games where you could delude yourself into thinking he'd had 2 shocking games.

Look forward to your reply, but get it right, I'm marketing director.

  6. I would clap him - even if he went to Liverpool etc... It killed me when Yorke went, but this seems different for some reason. You can never question Barry's commitment for us and he has done a lot over the 10 years.

We'll see what happens, but if he does go, I will clap!

How on earth is it "different"? :? , Yorke was a much better player and was with us for longer, yes the Everton performance wasn't good but neither was Gareth's Wigan performance, there's nothing "different" about this at all, at least Yorke went to a massive club who were contending the title, while Gareth looks like he's going to the 4th best club who we have ambitions of challenging.

    It's different I'm afraid.

Better player thing is opinion, Yorkie was so so sooo good for us, it pissed me off so much when everyone suddenly proclaimed Fergie as having found this great player when he'd just watched him banging in hundreds of goals for villa. Barry is great as well.

Yorkie was with us for 9 years, and for the first 3 didnt really play, then he was a winger for a bit, then finally became a great striker for us. Gareth has been a pro with us for 10 years, and I'd say a fixture in the team for about 8 years. For about 5 of those years he's been excellent. Got into England team initially as a defender/midfielder, then was messed around a bit but always was very talented, since he's been in midfield barring DOL's first season he's been quality. He's played very nearly 400 games for us.

Gareth wasn't that bad against Wigan I'm afriad. People can pretend to see what they want but he wasn't, the day before was the huge break in the Echo (I think that was the paper) about the bid, so it was used against him by fans with short memories. The team was so bad that day, but some seemed to need something to attack Barry alone with, this game was just what they needed.

Yorkie would never have been that hated if he hadn't celebrated in front of the holte. So having him as a marker is a load of bollocks. He deserved the abuse he initally got after deciding to dance around in front of the fans who used to love him becuase he got a boos from some sections. Barry would not do that, if he did (or does), he'd deserve(s) everything he got and more.

I can't argue with going to Liverpool though. I fully agree, there's not that much point in going to a team who are not THAT far ahead of us; if you're gonna leave, go to united or chelsea.
