  1. Anfield and Gerrard, obviously it was always going to be a game that the media took significant interest in. I like Gerrard’s attitude to the game though and it feels very different to say when Gerard Houllier went their with us in December 2010. There’s no denying that it’s going to be a tough afternoon but like against Man City recently, all I want is to see us compete and make it difficult for them.

It’s not always pretty on the eye for some but a tight 433 formation is probably our best way at playing at present. Obviously our possession stats will be low but when we do have the ball, we need to make it count and not be sloppy. Nothing worse than gifting the ball to the opposition.

The games now come thick and fast for a couple of weeks and I think we have several players (Cash, Mings and McGinn?) who are one booking away from suspension. We’ll need everyone for the games ahead, so no silly bookings please. My heart is saying we can collect a point from the game but my head is saying a narrow defeat. A win and I may crack open Mrs F’s Christmas booze stash!

                                          Martinez

       Cash             Konsa                   Mings         Targett

                                         Nakamba

                             Luiz                       McGinn

             Buendia               Watkins                *Young

Subs:  Steer, Hause, Tuanzebe, Sanson, *Ramsey, Carney, El-Ghazi, Ings, Davis

*I’d be happy with Young or Ramsey on the left of the forward three. I’ve gone Young purely for his big game experience but no doubt that Ramsey would be fine to start if chosen. UTV

I've never understood this philosophy at grounds. The authorities want everyone gone ASAP which always just creates problems as 50K+ people are all moving in similar directions all at the same time. Why not let local pubs, the ground etc. all sell more food and drink. That way at least a third of the people might stick around and wait for the crowds to die down before moving anywhere. It's bizarre. I'm astonished more people aren't injured in the mess that is queuing for trains after games.

Good point and I think this already happens at certain venues? Spurs being one of them? As you say, improve concourses with bars and seating and get people yo stick around for another hour.

My partner gave birth to our first child today. **** delighted doesn't even begin to cover what i'm feeling right now. Absolutely surreal in a good way.

Many, many congratulations to you both. 👏🏻🎊

I have two little ones (ages 9 and 7) and although you’ll have stress and tiredness, they bring so much happiness.

  4. Have you seen their December games before playing us on the 28th December?

They play - Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool and finally us.

What a rough trot of games that is before January. They could be hovering around the bottom 3 teams come the New Year.

  5. It’s noticeable that after a gruelling Christmas schedule, we play Brentford on Sunday 2 January at 14:00, whereas United play Wolves on Monday 3 January at 17:30. Could the extra rest be significant?

It’s a crap draw considering but they won’t fancy playing us either I suspect.

  6. Think we also need to remember that Leicester are missing some important players at present:  Tielemans, Pereira, Justin, Fofana.  Vardy was rested also.

It does affect the balance when key players are missing. Take nothing away from us yesterday though, as our second half display was outstanding.

Signs are good that we could be the top Midlands side this season.
