If he doesn't start this one, I presume we're working on a something which would see him leave.

If he doesn't start this one, id expect the noises about him pushing to leave would increase. Hard to stand in his way.

My Dad, who’s sadly now a HEITS, had a triple heart bypass and was on medication, when I took him to see our match against Milan which we won on penalties. Dad took a pil before the game and popped another couple when it went to extra time! a bloke in the row behind i us asked him if he could have one too! Dad lived past that game and longer too, not long enough of course as it never is. But it was a hell of a game! And he saw us through the third division and all the way back to the top, including those times when  made the league cup our own. Enjoy your view from the place you’re in now Dad, we’re in good hands!

love this mate, a brilliant memory, especially as a dad whos now taking his own son. Im hoping to bank a few of these ourselves.

Oh oh.  Monchi strikes again 👀

not sure its really a Monchi thing, its more a Unai one as he just hasnt used him at all.

My feeling is Tim would have been on loan at the start of the season if not for injuries, to take opportunities he has been competing with an extremely strong group in an extremely important position.

No surprises here, hopefully another 5-10m in the coffers.

Whilst this is a thread about the Terrace View, the fact there are people that will pay for it as an offering has nothing to do with the fact there are people who attend lower league games because there is no easy or cheaper way for them to watch their PL team.

I, and I imagine many others, don't have a lower league team I support. There probably isn't any football ground in League 2 or above closer to my home than Villa Park, so I don't really have an affinity to any of then.

But those that do,  probably watch them on a Saturday at 3pm. And a subset of those would take the opportunity to stay at home and watch the villa, or man united, or whoever else they follow at the same time if the option to do so was readily available via a TV package they already subscribe to.

As for booing the idea behind the TerraceView, to each their own, but hopefully whenever said person is doing it it can't be misconstrued by the people in the Terrace View as them being booed.

I don't agree with the gentrification that's happened, but it does look like for all the plastics and away supporters it let's sneak in, there are many genuine fans taking advantage of it and its given them an opportunity to give Villa more money whilst also experiencing the Holte end that they may not have otherwise been able to.

A good friend of mine is back over Xmas, he lives abroad and has done since his early 20s. We met as 15 year old season tickets holders, he later moved to my school and we've been mates for 25 years.

Hes not a plastic fan but was really pleased to be able to take advantage of terrace view seats for the burnley game. He simply wasn't getting a seat otherwise. I feel sorry for those that can't afford them but I absolutely think they have a space.

The real issue was created when villa decided to sell 75% of the ground to season ticket holders.

  5. I like Cash but Im not sure he starts for any other top 6 club and that's probably an indication that he isn't good enough for where we want to be.

I'd be very surprised if we bring an upgrade in during the summer.

stronger than i was expecting. thought digne might start as he's out for sunday but i guess we need to get minutes in moreno's legs.

stronger bench than expected too but good to see unai is taking no chances

I wondered the same but think its important to give Moreno some playing time in the back 4 thats likely to feature on Sunday.

Wigan won the FA Cup a few years back, and where did that propel them to as a club?

    We need CL above all.

And Leicester won the league and played champions league football.

The Wigan fans will remember every second of the day and will talk about it for years.

I was lucky enough to have been a teenager during the United and Leeds league cup victories, they are some of the best days of my life. Im not saying we wont get that from champions league qualification, but it just doesnt feel like something ill talk about in the years to come.

  8. hes also an awful lot of money to be rolled out just for these games but were only one centre half injury away from seeing him a lot more i think. Was a very sensible signing when it also looked like Pau might have to play some games at left back, thankfully that hasnt transpired.

I’m sorry but “go strong and wrap it up doesn’t look like the lineup you propose

carlos and l naglet are not our strongest back pairing

moreno hasn’t played in (seems like) years

Yuri is second choice in the central mid at best

ramsey too is playing into fitness

Zanuck’s has not found his British legs yet

    duran is in junior high

I don’t dislike any of them, it was simply NOT what I was expecting when you said “start strong.”

yeah i also thought the same by the time id finished writing.

Maybe it does show the strength of our squad though, our changes are no longer the inclusion of kids but more likely fully fledged members of the squad and im not really jumping to the Dendonker/Traores.

I still cant decide if i would prefer us to go strong or make the 7 or 8 changes i then proceeded to list.

  10. Some changes but agree with others, go strong and wrap up this tournament. Our squad lets us do that now i believe.

    Would like to see

    Emil

    Cash Carlos Lenglet Moreno

    Bailey Youri Kamara Ramsey

    Zaniolo Duran

Expecting Mcginn, Ollie, Luiz, Konsa, Digne to all play a significant part as well.

I dont think its easy to swap and change.  We will play the highline against Man City just as as we did against Liverpool. we might loose but we will create  opportunities

I think our high line really only comes when we have a lot of possession in the opposition final third. Its very likely that City will take most of the ball and will build up slowly. As a result i dont think our high line will come into play as much. The likes of Doku will run at us, not really look for the ball over the top. We didnt really play that high a line against Spurs, a few times but also a lot of offsides i think came close to goal to be honest.

I agree with your sentiment though, dont try and change what we do, its been successful but just accept that others may eventually pick us off.

I think definite starters against Bournemouth (injuries permitting) are Martinez, Konsa, Pau, Digne, McGinn, Luiz, Tielemans and Watkins, so that's 8 players I'd rest for this one (well 7 because we have to start with Emi).

    So on that basis, giving us enough to win (hopefully) and managing the squad, I think something like;

                                      Martinez

             Cash       Carlos         Lenglet        Moreno

            Bailey     Kamara    Iroegbunam    Ramsey

                              Diaby

                                               Duran

Hopefully get a good hour from Moreno and Ramsey and Diaby can play is way into a bit of form.

I'd be really surprised to see Tim and Ramsey start. Would hope to see both play a bit In the game.

A win here means we can basically send kids to Bosnia and then not touch the conference league until Feb or so.

  13. What a result. Spurs didn't finish the game in the first half and you'd back Unai to work them out in the second half. They also dont have the stamina or the squad to keep playing that way throughout.

I thought us being able to bring on Youri and Leon really makes a difference. Players that on the day actually improved us. Rarely been able to say that before about a villa side.

I don’t know about this. Fulham would have scored three or four goals in the game a few weeks ago under this Wenger rule. Tight offsides are saving us from conceding big chances pretty much every game. It’s a huge part of how we set up and we are very good at it. I don’t see us getting caught offside near as much at the other end. I think we will have to change our system if this rule comes in.

Fulham score those goals if you make a bigger allowance for the existing system. For me all this does is move the lines. If the defenders know the attackers have a bigger margin, they will have to be more aggressive with their starting position.

  15. 5 hours ago, Adman said:

I'd say it would be the opposite.  We play the offside trap the most out of nearly every team in Europe.

But we play a high line in order to apply attacking pressure high up the pitch and we score more goals than we defend. So our attackers benefit more than our defenders suffer.

Isn't this type of change aimed to support teams like us with a high line. Our whole game is based around applying pressure high up the pitch and out scoring teams.

Changes that benefit attackers support our kind of team surely.

Lets focus on the benefit it gives out attackers not the detriment it causes out defence.

WMCA and the Council don't think the Witton station redevelopment is justified with just additional crowds at match day, the whole area needs to be redeveloped like what has happened at Perry Barr. The planning application that was passed did not say that the station needs to be rebuilt, this is what the club or Purslow before he left, was pushing. The club does not seem to be want to be responsible for any other alternative traffic management schemes.

It looks like a significant impasse and the clock is ticking for the euros. If we mess this up then the second city will not be a host city.

It is coming up to a year since the original application was passed and the only news is that we have dropped the Villa live idea due to the massive cost increases in construction. Purslow gave regular updates and it seemed like his pet project whereas I don't think Heck has had a single AVTV interview yet and sees more interested in fleecing the fans in the existing match day experience and changing our club crest again.

i really dont know how they go about fixing the transport problems. Even if you fix the station, you still need more trains to be running to take people away.

I wonder if the club could consider some sort of park and ride, maybe using star city a bit more? but even then, if we want to get 10 thousand more fans in, conservatively thats 2.5 thousand more cars and nearly 200 full bus journeys to ship people about.

Didnt we make a hire in this space? a guy very experience in transport planning etc?
