So why put players on long contracts?
Are there different rules when selling a player (book the whole lot immediately) to when buying a player (where the PSR value is taken a year at a time)?
(I should point out that I don't doubt for a minute that you're right, I just can't get my head around it)
Because PSR isn't the only thing in the world. If you spend big money on a player that you think will have resale value, you dont want them to disappear in a couple of years.

No one here really knows, true.
We can only look at the facts available to us (published accounts and the losses they show, extended accounting period to the end of June, proposal for £135m allowed losses) and draw our own conclusions.
I think there is strong evidence to suggest we are at risk, others might disagree.
i do agree, i cant see how we are not sailing close to the wind given the published accounts. But the fact that we spent in Jan and didnt aggressively push sales makes me think that its still a manageable situation. I cannot believe the rumours that we need to sell a 30-50m asset this side of June.

We are at risk, hence we asking for extra £30m. However, we can easily generate that £30m by selling a player if other clubs won't agree to the rules change. We won't get any points deducted, we have too many assets we can easily sell to generate that amount.
I certainly cannot see other 13 teams voting for it to help us out though, so we will be selling for profit.
were at risk or we have some money and really want to create some more.
The reality is no one really knows.

I was sat in Lower Holte yesterday, row D, block L2.
The atmosphere towards supporting the players was non-existant. The vitriol sent Matty Cash's and Robin Olsen's way was toxic and disgusting. Zero, literally, zero chanting of support apart from celebrations when we scored.
It was a nasty experience and one I will not be repeating in that part of the ground.
Those fans do not deserve these players.
Edit: Just to add, we normally sit Upper Holte or Upper North Stand using our Claret Club Memberships.
my experience as well. So many around me were not regular lower holte season ticket holders. It seems to bring in the fans that havent watched villa in the last 18 months. Screams to get it forwards, comments that they never wish to see Cash play again.

Yeah he was my MOTM. Not that it was a particularly high bar
oddly i thought he struggled. A few moments in the attacking third but think either his fitness or poor defensive capabilities held us back.
Id have replaced him a lot sooner.

Ive heard a lot of talk that we lack European experience and I think i started to see why last night.
Firstly the refs are different, not the standard we are used to, language barriers which means communication is harder, rules even applied differently. We need players that understand and adjust to that. When Mcginn and Dougie got frustrated, they rushed into niggly challenges in silly places, often losing the momentum in the game. How often did we see Bailey or Watkins chase down a full back and the full back just wait for contact.
Secondly we need to learn to just stay in games. Unai always talks about control. At 2 all we could have consolidated and put our foot on the ball. Instead we chased.
Thirdly we need that squad. The ability to bring in players that can fit seemlessly with others. I think weve seen from Lenglet that he can be trusted over a run of games but in the odd game he isnt match sharp enough. Tim it feels isnt trusted. You can get away with this in the early rounds of competitions.

So, don’t sell anybody, ever?
No, sell when it makes financial sense.
Unfortunately some times youve made a bad deal in the past and you have to own it. I dont think we will find a better player than Carlos when you consider how much it will cost us to lose him and how much it will cost for a replacement.

He's being linked with a move to Milan whose wage bill is as high as ours, why would we pay his wages if he moves there?
I dont understand how people think this makes sense financially.
We spent 30m on him, we pay him c120k per week. I'm not sure who is covering that but I doubt Milan will tbh.
A replacement costs money and will also earn wages as well.

Neither are training with the squad or have any sort of match fitness. Definitely won't see either this season which is a shame but would be a pointless risk.

People were too busy laughing their tits off and screaming bottlers to look at what actually happened to arsenal last season, lack of depth killed them, especially at CB, even this year with timber effectively doing what mings has done we've got more depth in defence than they have
Carlos is fine for the role that he will have next year
There's some sort of weird myth around the CL kicking out the idea that we need some sort of £50m+ International player as back up if we're going to cope vs Sparta Prague
Our squad has saved us this year, people shouldn't try and dismantle it.
Carlos cost us 30m and big wages, you are taking a loss if you sell him and likely paying wages.
Prefer he stays and we strengthen.

Calum Chambers is an example of someone on lower wages. This isn't the answer.
If we want to improve or maybe even sustain our position. We will need better players than we currently have. We won't get that by paying less than Carlos earns.
Arsenal have Gabriel and Saliba, that's still not enough to win the league.

Agents fees should be the responsibility of the players.
and those fees would just then be spread across wages.
Unfortunately no regulation exists around what agents can charge and for what services they provide.

I think anyone worried that Liverpool may have one toe on the beach when they play Spurs next week need to factor in that if that is the case by the time they play us the following week they'll have sun creamed up, be lying on their towel, head phones in and fast asleep. Bottom line is though Liverpool at Anfield is a far tougher game than playing them at home.
Overall this has been a great weekend for us. We gained a point on Spurs, Chelsea got a point keeping them well in the hunt for 6th place with Spurs up next, Arsenal won to ensure that Man City will almost certainly still need to get something when they play Spurs, Brighton who we play next got trounced meaning they have no wins in 6 including 4 defeats and Burnley got a point meaning they'll almost certainly still be fighting for survival when they play Spurs.
I am sure not one of us would swap places with Spurs but every single one of their supporters would swap places with us. We have put ourselves in a great position.
add Burnley to that as well, a point closer to staying up meaning that their game against spurs really means something

He received treatment on his hamstring at the same time as Youri. Given he then stayed on til half time I'm hoping is a good sign.

This competition will run very close, its not a relegation battle, it's battle at the top where both teams expected to gain points.
I think we will be separated by 1 point and both teams will have over 70.

As I said, I am an old grumpy man, so take it as you will, hehe.
When we had two kids that age ourselves we both worked full time. I started at 7am and ended at 3pm, she started at 9 and was finished at 5pm. Sure it was stressful, but people raised kids before tablets and endless TV on back to back zombie-tube. We had help from her parents occasionally but generally our kids were encouraged to play outside and to learn how to play themselves. This day and age it seems like the short cut is often an iPad. I probably would've done that myself, but I feel that my kids would suffer for it. The amount of ADHD and short attention spans these days might be correlated to high screen time and instant gratification?
Our kids got to watch Postman Pat, Fireman Sam and Pablo the red fox when it was on for half an hour. That was it. They couldn't watch kids shows all day even if they wanted to.
I just don't think kids are meant to be spending 3-4 hours a day on an iPad, it screws up their brain and body. I feel like kids these days need to learn how to be bored. I know that sounds grumpy again..
I do think it's perceived to be harder to spend time outside playing now. I'm fortunate to live on a quiet cul de sac where everyone has children of similar ages and we have a large shared field for football and other games. From the ages of 6 or 7 we would let our children play out on their own. Outside of my street, I don't have any friends that let their children do this.

I thought he harassed fairly well last night....at all points except when Gallagher cuts in to shoot
I've no idea why no-one pushed out to close him down.
This was my thought, you've got to get out to Gallagher. I'm not Tim's biggest fan but he's a 5th choice centre mid, he didn't cost anything and his wages are low in comparison to others. In the world of FFP, we need people like Tim.
More game time and I suspect he improved.

I'm pissed and had an amazing thought without much thought
Retractable seating on the corners of the north stand ( like train rails so they can be moved away from the ground when we do expand the north stand).
So build the tracks , add in the stands each side, that instantly adds extra seating.
Then later
Knock down north stand ( retract the sides so they are safe) rebuild north stand and then move the side seats so level with new north stand once built.
Less impact on gate receipts while redeveloping the north stand due to the sides being put into place once demolition is done on north stand and rebuilding is taking place.
Clearly not thought it through but have polished off a bottle of e18hteen caramel rum tonight so if nothing else, that's an achievement
im not following the point of making the seats retractable? if you move them back to build a north stand then what would be the plan? could they come back somehow?

Are the advertising boards any higher than prem games, that's the supposed reason for some front rows being blocked off.. they don't look any higher from other parts of the ground
not that ive noticed but ill ask my mate when i see him. its odd isnt it, i sort of assumed it was some sort of crowd control thing.

I think the delay is quite possibly linked to our champs league qualification but not sure if its necessarily pricing.
I wonder if we will get more of a compulsory cup scheme.
Or they are still to identify all of the areas for GA+ and it may impact some current ST seats.
I have friends in the first row of the holte where seats are unsold for european comps, they have to apply for available seats each game. I wonder if the champs league comes with any more restrictions?

I’d only build a new stadium if it was anywhere but the city centre, I think that would be an awful place to have it. Look I don’t want to move from Villa Park but I think it’s a very bad idea so close to the city centre for a stadium if we were to go down the route of building a new stadium imo.
I guess i was taking my villa hat off and thinking if im putting all that money into a stadium, it needs to be used more than 20 times a year. Having a large stadium very close to a large city centre for me means that you can maximise its usage.
I dont know if its makes business sense to have a really large stadium where villa is currently located.
-
I'd only build a new stadium if he moved to the city centre. I'm not convinced it would be worth it in our current location if I'm honest.

surprised not to see him get a run out today, even to close out the game.
It probably suggests his time with Unai may come to a close soon.
-
Reminded me a lot of Ramsey today. Taking the ball on the half turn and driving at the defence.
I still don't think he's fit, definitely tires late in the game. Can't wait to see what he achieves.

We need another win, half fit Emi vs Brighton away or fully fit Emi vs Palace away. If he's not fit, I would risk him.
