  1. Alistair Campbell just tweeted:

Apologies to Sunday Mail Glasgow. Was given wrong info re Stiliyan Petrov. Treatment going well but not yet in remission @beatbloodcancer

Pretty fuming about this. Surely you'd make absolutely sure that you had this correct before putting the news out there?

Apologies to Stan Petrov too surely you smug tw@t Campbell?

  2. On further reflection, the Rice issue raises two problems...

    1. Condi doesn't want the job..

"I cannot imagine myself running for office," she told CNN's "Piers Morgan Tonight" in January. "Not because politics are so tough, but it's just not me."

"There is no way that I will do this because it's really not me. I know my strengths and Governor Romney needs to find someone who wants to run with him. There are many people who will do it very, very well. I'll support the ticket," Rice reiterated on CBS News last month.

What is Rice's response to the Drudge "exclusive?"

This may speak for itself: She didn't respond to an e-mail and her chief of staff told us her past comments stand, and that she is on vacation and not available for further comment.

    2. Her abortion stance really makes her a non-starter anyway, especially since Mitt promised last year that his VP pick would be a conservative, pro-life pro-"traditional marriage" person. He can't afford to piss off the Tea Party, as we saw in the mid-term elections. The Tea Party will happily strike down the GOP ticket if he doesn't pander to them.

He may be able to convince Rice to run in some kind of patriotic call to service. But I think the damage it would do to his campaign would kill it off.

Rice is still tainted by Gulf War 2. Independent voters would be turned off by that. Conservative voters would be turned off by her abortion stance. Is she qualified to be "a heartbeat away from the Presidency", given the fact that she has never held elected office before? Expect left-leaning commentators to make hay with a line like "even less qualified than Sarah Palin".

I reckon he'll go for Rob Portman.

  3. Rice has gone public that she is "pro-choice" and that won't sit well at all with the hard right of the GOP and the Tea Party.

Whilst having Rice on the ticket would appeal to the centre, it will alienate the right. Big decision for Mitt.

  4. All the polls suggest it's Obama's to lose. Florida, as always, will be pretty decisive.

It seems the Obama campaign has taken the gloves off though. The attacks on Romney about his Bain history are pretty strong, compared to the 2008 campaign.

However, it's easier to get away with attacking a multi-millionaire than a hero ex-POW veteran.

I still reckon there's going to be a twist. The GOP and the Tea Party will do whatever they can to avoid a 2nd term Democrat president.

  5. We don't know how long Stan had been at BMH before this scene was shot. He may have been there for a couple of hours, chatted with everybody, had a good cry and hug with everyone and then said "ok ok, I'm just a bit emotional, please don't make a fuss lads".

    :)

  6. Why, in each of the several meeting rooms at work they have put up A4 size photographs of the room. The same room you're in.

So if you decide to do a "break out session" and rearrange the furniture, there's a handy guide on the wall to remind you how to put things back.

  7. I agree that Murray would have won probably 2 grand slams if his career was around the late 90s, early 20th century century.

I dunno.. William Augustus Larned was pretty imperious round that time..

  8. It's the only suggestion anyone has come up with. You'd think that for a company so creative, Apple would at least let you create new docs. Perhaps Google can fix this in their next version of the app

It's not really Apple's fault though surely?

  9. IVF injections, egg collection, fertilisation and transfer went exceptionally well.

Tomorrow is the blood test to see if Bluto (yes, we named the embryo) has managed to implant successfully.

    Scared? **** terrified.

  10. If, like I said, he's able to stand, kick and jump around as goalkeepers do but is still feeling pain and his decision-making or reaction time suffers then why would AVFC be effected?

If a player is 10% fit (to use the figure previously quoted) then they shouldn't be playing because they run a greater risk of an unrelated injury. If a player is that lacking in fitness I struggle to see how they can move in the same way they normally would and that is going to cause problems or could cause problems.

It is fairly normal for club managers to take a dim view of international teams using their players when anything less than 100% so if Given is as unfit as being suggested then you would expect people at Villa to be livid.

I should caveat that the 10% figure is anecdotal (is that the right word? I dunno) and not likely to be scientific.

  11. Which is all fair comment, however as a supporter of Villa and not Ireland my view is that if only 10% fit (I've no idea how people put a percentage on fitness) he shouldn't be playing. He is contracted to and paid by Villa not the ROI and while I understand his desire to play as a supporter of Villa I can't say that I think he has done the right thing, I would be very surprised if the club thought so either.

That's fair enough, but I suppose it depends on whether he is likely to jeopardise his fitness by playing?

If, like I said, he's able to stand, kick and jump around as goalkeepers do but is still feeling pain and his decision-making or reaction time suffers then why would AVFC be effected?

EDIT to say: Perhaps it's worked out better for AVFC this way.. Ireland knocked out after 2 games. Third game RD and SG are unlikely to play, so their recovery/rehabilitation time is increased.
