It certainly didnt need tearing apart, the squad he inherited was mostly good and the bad rarely played, he turned good into bad. Dunne and Collins were a great partnership the year before, Houllier turned them shite and no matter what those two did off the field under Houllier (which was innexcuseable) that would never have happened under MON. Under MON our defence was generally good, under Houllier with the very same players, it was an utter shambles. Only one man to blame there.
I also see this myth that Houllier was going to lead us eventually into playing great football and the players he bought and was going to buy some more great players still persists, where on earth does it come from, it's a fantasy, Houllier has consistently alienated players, bought huge swathes of utter shite and generally played negative long ball shite throughout his PL career as well as not developing any youth players apart from Gerrard whom he was handed on a plate.
PL is the one that has to tear things up though McLeish should have done too but I'm not entirely sure it was in his brief.
I agree with all of the above. As I posted during the Houllier regime, he was seen as a Walter Mitty figure, living on past glories and sticking his head in the sand when people tried to tell him things he didn't want to hear.
As bad as the McLeish year was, the Houllier year was abysmal.
Houllier was a cancer.
And this from a man who was incredibly excited when he was appointed. How wrong I was..

Isn't this cycling thing the equivalent of a footballer feeling contact and going to ground in the box?
He felt there was a problem with his start and, rather than try desperately to correct it and subsequently have a bad time, he allowed the mishap to continue and fell of his bike. He didn't deliberately cause the "mishap" but he didn't try very hard to correct it...

He's away to the Galaxy I think.
Not yet.

The Mitt Romney Comedy Tour continues, now in Israel, where he explained the difference in Israel and Palestine's GDP being "cultural", implying Israel is an inherently superior culture...and ignoring the fact that Palestine is a militarily occupied territory....he was promptly rebuked by the Palestinians, who are calling Romney's statement "racist"....
Such a bumbling fool...the Obama camp is loving this
However, anything Romney says that makes Israel look "good" will go down very well in Florida where there is a large elderly Jewish population. Florida will be absolutely key in the electoral college so, while the outside world giggles at Mitt, the Romney campaign will know the damage to his electability is minimal. Unfortunately.

Ba out
Carroll in
Common sense
Ba came out very prominently this week to say he's happy at Newcastle and any talk about him wanting to leave is just plain wrong.
A lot of NUFC stakeholders don't want Carroll back.

Collins was leaving regardless of Vlaar
I have no doubt that collins was one to move on, but i think its clear him leaving now is allowing the Vlaar deal to proceed.
Its one hell of a coincidence in timing if not.
Also the fact we've just got back from a tour across the Atlantic.
Also been told there's a striker deal being worked on, and this is very exciting to the guy who told me.

I'm pretty sure I coined the 'Welcome xxxx' announcements on VT so let me add to my collection with...
Goodbye James Collins.
He'll be having talks with a premier league club this weekend. I've been asked not to say who with, but you don't need to be a rocket scientist to work it out.

Spoke to a lad in the Villa Village today and he said there is talk of a fairly big signing coming our way, not sure how much inside info somebody in the shop has - but I did get told about Petrov in there before we bought him.
Did they mention how many chairs there'd be??

So it only took one page for irreverentad to drop the pretence of it being a "friend"? Jesus man, at least make it a little bit difficult for us
-
Tell him to man the f**k up.. As long as he puts some thought into the location, he'll be fine.

With Michelle Jenneke not in the olympics ( ), balls.ie have found us a Paraguayan javelin thrower. She's not Michelle, but it's a start.
Hmmm, they both have their individual redeeming features.
I think Miss Franco wins because of her undoubted skill in handling massive poles. Fnar fnar

KAE this pre season has looked great and if he can keep this up in the league he will deffo be in the 'new signing' category.

Top of the Flops: Mcleish, Houllier Or DOL?

From a fan's perspective, I can see that McLeish would be seen in such a bad light.
I had the "pleasure" of knowing some of the inner workings of the squad during Houllier's regime. That's why I called him a cancer. Everything he touched within the club went to shit. There were absolutely NO redeeming features about his time as manager, in my opinion.
For what it's worth, McLeish never lost the dressing room to the same extent as Houllier did and I'm convinced that if McAllister hadn't taken over when he did, we were nailed on for relegation.
