  1. I have to disagree with you on Bouma, imo he is going to be a great player for us over the next couple of years.
  2. Craig Bellamy versus Alan Smith (pick a winner) Who would you rather see at Villa Park?
  3. I have a couple of good mates who are Man City season ticket holders and they haven't been impressed with Distin for the last couple of seasons." Lazy, uncommitted, mistake ridden and temperamental" is their view of him and they definitely did not want him to sign a new contract. Apparently the way he's played against us recently is the exception not the norm, they also say that Dunne is a much better Cb. He is also 30yrs old in december and maybe Mon has someone younger and more ambitious in mind.
  4. Defo, I was thinking the exact same thing. That would be a great signing. I find it hard to believe that they are contemplating blocking his ascent to the Man.Utd first team - he looks a certain star to me Defo is too small to play in goal surely!
  5. Valencia are rumoured to have offered between 8-10 million pounds for Sneijder that was rejected and like a lot of so called big clubs they may not be able to come up with any more cash. We can, so that makes Villa a real player in the european TRANSFER MARKET this summer imo. Well i would imagine with the amount of money coming into the Premier League this coming season it will most likely end up being a destination for a whole host of European talent. So taking that into account and the fact we are backed by a billionaire and i would most definitely say that we are major players in this transfer market! I just hope it plays out that way also! I typed TRANSFER MARKET in capitals because if you want to shop in any market for top class goods you can only do so if you have the money. There will be a lot of Spanish, Italian, French, Dutch and German clubs who can only look on because they have nowhere near enough money to compete with the buying power of the Premier League, and Villa are in a top four position when it comes to funds and ambition.

  7. I seem to remember that Mon wasn't to complementary about Appiah whilst commentating for the bbc at the world cup, does any one else remember this or is it just my faulty memory?
  8. I honestly believe that this will be the most exciting and successful transfer window ever for Villa fans.
  9. Are they Michael, Cristiano and Obafemi's brothers? It's the thought not the spelling Rigo, good shout. :winkold:
  10. I'm not daft enough to think that we could sign the likes of Drogba, Ronaldo etc now, but there was a time when even they were available for a price we can now afford whilst they were playing in lesser leagues.
  11. Yeah, just go for foereigners with fancy names, they are always better than proven premiership quality.... Drogba, Henri, Ronaldo, Ruud Van Nistelrooy. They were worth a punt at the time even though they weren't premiership proven.
  12. A lot of you seem to lack confidence in the ability of Villa to sign top class players. Media pundits are now starting to speculate about Aston Villa as the club most capable of joining the top 4 and yet still we talk about signing other clubs cast offs! Mon will be targeting the kind of top players that other clubs don't want to lose if he is to back up the well publicised ambitions of our new board, so shouldn't we be concentrating on deals where financial clout and AVFC's ambition can win out? Why not bid for Huntelaar, Sneijder, Ribery et al rather than Defoe, Sidwell, NRC etc. Watching the top teams last season demonstrated that the reason they are a class apart is because they have two or three outstanding players who win matches for them. How many more games would Villa win if we had three more outstanding individual players in our team?
  13. Haha!! Very true! ......and Kieran Richardson!! O'Shea was crucial to United winning the league, thats when Phil Neville and referee's weren't helping out. As much as I hate Man U and it hurts to say this I think everyone of there players would improve our squad. I disagree Amo, Fletcher, O'shea, Brown, Richardson, Heinze, Sylvestre, Smith and Solskjaer would not take Villa into the top six or to the champions league.
  14. He's getting on?? he's 28 years old. At his peak. He has been in and out the team this season so even if he he hasn't been at his best that doesn't make him a crap player all of a sudden. I think we've all seen enough of him over the last few years for both Man U and Argentina to know he is a quality defender! Just needs a fresh start. Agreed. He's slow, and I can't remember the last time he impressed me going forward. He can tackle but that's about it imo.
  15. Thank god there's another sober Villan on here tonight! PS Wow, I've started page three hundred and we're still no closer to guessing who we're going to sign!
  16. Heinze is class, undisputed class. Bouma had a good season, but is it a permanent? I imagine thats what MON might be thinking, if there is any truth to these links. I hope you lot are joking, Heinze? Bouma is head and shoulders above yet another struggling Manc!
  17. The fact that he's in a lesser league and not with the big boys of that league suggests to me that he is very gettable and would welcome a move to England. Forget Bellamy, Smith and Nugent, it's gotta be this lad or Darren Bent for me. Would love him but £10m wouldn't get him. They want about e20m which is what £14m? I think that we need a striker who is a class above the current crop of british strikers. If he costs 20 million euros then I think Randy will happily pay it.
  18. A good no nonsense summing up of where we're at imo.
  19. Sad to say Owen would be to much of a gamble imo. Why risk having a great player on the treatment table as much as Owen unfortunately is, when the same money in transfer fee and wages would buy a fit goal machine like Huntelaar.
  20. True! I think above average premiership players are gonna start seeing a move to Chelsea for what it is soon though- professional suicide. Chelsea need cover more than most teams due to the number of games they play and Sidwell wouldn't let them down on the occasions they called on him, but imo he would do well to talk to the likes of Scott Parker and SWP whose careers have been affected by their decision to sign for Chelsea.
  21. Sidwell is an athlete with a good attitude and reasonable technique, but who would he replace? Barry is better on the ball and Gardner will score more goals from centre midfield. Petrov could be excellent for us if he settles and gets really fit in the same way that Bouma did. So is Sidwell good enough, or should we be looking even higher?
  22. Id rather have 3 £10m and 4 £5m. But even then I look at newcastle and just hope we dontturn into them. Dont worry I dont think we will, but look at the top class (champions league) player that have gone up there. Owen Luque Martins Duff Emre Parker And they're still shit. :winkold: Have you noticed that 4 of them are midgets and the other two believe that football should be a non contact sport!
  23. After 288 pages of speculation about dozens of possible targets, shouldn't we reconsider Richard Fitzgeralds comment about "Top Class Signings." What did he mean, and how would you define top class in terms of Champions league aspirations, which was the context in which the comment was made.
