Guess I won’t bother tuning in

Put aside the Villa love-in for a second. He would upset the ethos in the squad, he is unprofessional (which I don’t think can be said of any of our current professional and hard working squad), we don’t need his antics or the negative press, we are progressing without him, he would demand special treatment that he (1) doesn’t deserve and (2) would enrage other more deserving players, and I just wouldn’t want a team built around him again.
Genuinely wouldn’t consider him for any fee. He’s burned his bridges and he’s going to reap what he’s sown. And maybe he’s happy with that because he has won everything - fair play. But he has absolutely no business at Villa.

Come home Jacky boy! For free of course
Nope! I think he’s starting to reap the rewards of his lifestyle tbh. Downhill from here and we should never ever sign players from the Big 6 (Martinez being the only decent one we have signed from any of them in my memory).
Why upset the balance and atmosphere we have in the team.

In the US you tell everyone how good you are or you don't get paid...
Exactly this. I lived in the US as well and it’s crippling how socially awkward and unwilling to be free we are brought up to be. But yeah if you’re not bugging yourself up then it’s taken at face value that you must be shit.
Anyway on Emi, I’m going to go as far as to say he’s the best footballer ever to play for us. He’s won the World Cup, he’s won every best goalkeeper in the world award, he’s worth double digits of points every season, he hardly ever cocks up. Whenever he’s one on one or there is a penalty, any other keeper (apart from Ederson) I’d favour the striker but not Emi. You just know that leg is going to fly out of nowhere and stop it. He increases the profile of our club, he’s a calming presence in defence, he seems to love the Villa, we love him. He’s a born winner and champion and legend.

No he wasn’t it was just the narrative pushed by the jealous English media.
It also just taps into the English psyche that being confident is arrogance and “not cricket”. It’s why we produce such uptight and insular people.

We have to play Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool too.
Yeah but Villa doing Villa things we would probably smash them all then lose to Luton

Obviously not much to go on but just looking at him he doesn’t look out of place. He seems sure of himself, he’s a brick shit house and he just seems comfortable already. As I’m a Villa fan I’m confident that based on circa 15 minutes he’s the real deal.

Sometimes he’s as good as Hogan. Other times he’s as good as Messi. The enigma.

I slagged him off when he was poor and all that stuff came out of him wanting more time (because I’m a fickle, naive, impatient Villa fan).
Ive learnt my lesson these days. I think he’s superb. Say it quietly but he’s better than Buendia…

Thank god tbh. Glad the players showed up

Why must we smear a bit of poo on it right at the end

I know it’s irresponsible but I wish we just went out to dick them 9-0

The tragic thing about completely dicking a team so comfortably in the first half an hour is that if it finishes 5-0 it's going to feel a bit underwhelming now
Yeah always happens!

Honestly just relieved. Glad the rot has stopped. Also slightly furious we couldn’t do this AT HOME to go top at xmas. But so happy to have turned it around

He's the new Diaby.
Diaby is dead, long live new Diaby.

"Rogers shit mate. Bin him off."
The sad thing is i can predict who will be saying it too.
“No mate give him time to settle. Look at Diaby - he was written off and now he’s unplayable”
just to complete the loop

tbh, ofc we would always want CL football this year if we could get it, and im sure there will be ups and downs this year, but to be brutally honest, once the season is over and the dust has settled, i would be very happy if we got Europa League.
I think, considering where we are, the minimum we should expect of ourselves right now is Europa League, but it would also be a good finish regardless, especially considering where we were, when Emery took over.
Im sure there would be some disappointment if we didnt manage CL this year, due to how the first half of the season went, but eh......in reality, CL league is wildest dreams stuff, Europa league would be a very good season, weirdly i would be disappointed by anything less than that, but thats only because of how the first half of the season went, if you had offered me Europa league at the start of the season, i would have been extremely happy with that.
i guess expectations adjust based on current form, and we performed way, way beyond expectations in the first half of the season tbh.
Yup I agree that’s the case but that's so unfair on Emery. Definitely a victim of his own success.

Looking at Twitter I honestly despair at our fanbase. Ive seen someone say that top 8 and winning a cup would be “not bad”.
We haven’t won a cup in over two decades. Before Emery took over we were something like 16th? The fact we are even discussing anything other than mid table or relegation is all because of him.

I know a lot of Arsenal fans and I’m getting messages on the lines of told you so re Emery. Bright hopeful start and then diminishing returns. Don’t buy that shit and not sure that’s even true of his time at Arsenal or anywhere else
I will never not support Emery fyi and if we lost to Shef Utd I’m going to be pretty gutted once Emery out gets going, which it will because our fan base can be really insufferable.

Absolutely this is a must win. They are bottom for a reason and the f*ckers jammed a point against us at VP by playing ultra defensive Wilder tactics.
Basically if we can't beat these at least once this season we may as well pack up and go home. Unai needs to show that he's an elite manager by putting an end to this horrific run we're on.
I wouldn’t say they jammed a point. WE jammed a point. We had absolutely no answer to their defensive tactics.

Our form has long suggested a result like last night was a matter of time. I thought we’d get well beaten in the cup by Chelsea (which we should have been by ht), it it’s just a shame it came against Newcastle at home.
If we continue to play like we are, we’ll do well to finish in the top 7 quite frankly. At what point does a bad run of form no longer become form and more the ‘norm’? It’s bizarre we can play fast, free flowing football like we did against City and against Newcastle at home last season but now we’re reverting to this timid, slow approach play.
There’s nothing ‘I told you so’ about this post. We’ve been rubbish since we scored against Arsenal and it’s only a matter of time before we drop down the league. It’s all very obvious.
Sounds pretty “I told you so” if you ask me. Besides the reverse is also true. When did our great form become “the norm”? Form comes and goes. We are in a shit period but we won’t be here forever. We probably will finish 6-7th because that’s where we belong. We were massively over achieving and couldn’t keep that up. If we are actually allowed to strengthen in the summer by the powers that be we can start thinking about top 4.

He’s clearly got it in his locker. Like Bailey, he needs time. But he does need to be benched for the time being til the team as a whole stops being shite.
