Yeah, we should aspire to get to the level of Sunderland or Leeds before we get our own show.

I’m not talking about it being an aspiration. Frankly I wouldn’t want a Villa documentary as I think it’s everything wrong with football - I.e. it’s all becoming a soap opera.

being interesting isn’t the same as being something aspirational. I just don’t think there’s anything objectively interesting happening at Villa. Why would  Sunderland or Leeds fan tune into a documentary about Villa?

also to clarify I’m not trying to shit on Villa here, I’m just thinking from the perspective of other fans. We all know fans of all different clubs - how many do you know that care about Villa?

Our time mixing with the big guns is coming to an end. We just cannot break down teams that play like this.

I should probably add context to this given the response. I think we have done phenomenally well and I love the squad and what they’ve achieved. What separates us from the big guns (Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City) who we have been ‘mixing’ with is we are not used to playing teams who play 11 behind the ball and kick the shit out of us. The big boys deal with it season after season and know how to deal with it. We don’t. We can easily go toe to toe with top teams, but when we get ‘Dyched’ we don’t really have a response. We get frustrated, lose our structure, lose our discipline and just can’t break through. We aren’t used to being treated as a quality team. I think that’s why earlier in the season we pulled Everton apart. People are wising to the fact we are actually a good team and it might actually be better to just contain us and get a point or a smash and grab.

  3. Viewing this as objectively as possible, I don’t think most fans give a toss about Villa. We are akin to West Ham/Everton/Crystal Palace in the ‘making up the numbers’ party. Our ownership doesn’t generate interest like Wrexham or Newcastle. We haven’t done anything outstanding on the field (yet). If we can hold onto top 4 I think it’s possible people take more of an interest. I think it’d take top 3 for there to be a significant response.

Tbh, a lot of our defensive issues would ease if you could bring in a RB, Konsa back at CB and manage to sell Chambers/Traore

Yup. A RB has to be a priority. Especially when you look at how dangerous we are down the left with Digne/Alex Moreno. We need that down the right.

  5. This failure to break down these bottom sides will cost us. Lack of discipline, not holding position and losing concentration, getting wound up and drawn into their shite and no cutting edge. I don’t blame Emery, we just don’t have the players required right now. That’s the next step it seems because we can easily break down Tottenham but not Sheffield United

This walking football late into games really gets in my wick.

Tbf we have scored a loootttt of goals late in the game so I’d leave them to it to get it right rather than just hoof and run. If we lose possession we can easily lose

  7. We really struggle to break down these teams that play like bastards. That’s what separates us from the likes of City and Liverpool. Obviously it’s almost impossible for us to directly compete with them but City would be 3-0 up despite all to Everton’s bullshit

And someone on here earlier moaning why we vindicate refs…

Because a culture of relentlessly and constantly abusing refs means people don’t ref, and this is the resulting standard. It isn’t rocket science but clearly far beyond the grasp of football fans.

Considering that you even see players, coaches and supporters abusing the refs at kids' games, you've got to have thick skin to want to go into it as a profession. I think I'd end up chinning some word removed in my first 45 minutes (I'd start with the kids, obviously).

I’m involved with an FA and we have never made more money from fines through discipline. It’s awful. But change has to come from the top and no one is willing to commit to stopping cheating, abuse and dissent. “Oh but refs are shit so let’s abuse them”. Yes that’ll help. And why do you think the standard is so low???

It’s more that football fans are whining little bitches. I genuinely can’t remember the last match thread on here that didn’t have constant moaning about the ref.

It’s **** exhausting. The only reason I enter these threads is because you get goal updates faster if you’re out or have a shit stream. But Christ alive all it is is whining about officiating absolutely non stop. I get it’s mostly shit but even a 50/50 yellow will get three pages of conspiracy theories and rage.

    VAR is fine.

    It's operated by PL refs.

    There's your problem.

    The worst of the worst.

Good sunday league refs are better. Ones that have a brain.

This is where all of the issue lies. Right there. No one wants to referee anymore. I can tell you first hand that the local game absolutely cannot recruit or retain refs anymore. It’s never been easier to get up to the PL.
