  1. Any news? We have a cup tie this weekend which I'd very much like to see us win.

No news yet. I imagine that Tom Fox is still meticulously reading through each and every entry on this thread. I reckon he's up to, say, Post #43 by now?

  2. Sorry but what's wrong with Sherwood? He got the best out of Adebayor and I think he would do the same with Benteke. At the worst he would motivate the players and keep us up.  What we don't need right now is a good coach.

Adebayor and Benteke seem SO different to me as players and as personalities. I don't see much in common between them at all. Benteke seems truly to be suffering a crisis of confidence. He used to be so precise and graceful. To me, Adebayor is less cerebral, less sensitive.

  3. Very interested in the historical perspective ...

For those of you who have been on VillaTalk a long time, is this thread's apparent lack of unanimity -- I mean, it's all over the place in terms of names -- typical with a manager sacking? Was there more unanimity when Lambert was hired? MON? Macleish? Are we being especially far-ranging in tossing names around this time?

  4.

I hope that Randy Lerner sits down at times, thinks about the impact he has on other people's lives, and then sheds a tear for the pain and heartache that he causes.

    Who did he murder?

    Aston Villa Football Club

    Not by a LOOOOONG chalk.

I don't like Randy Lerner much as an owner, I would like him to sell up. But to say he has "murdered" the club is hyperbole in its extreme.

... hyperbole in extreme? Isn't that kind of like extreme extremism?

I think useless is my favourite poster.

I can never tell if he really means his posts or he's having us all on

Careful. You get warning points for that comment.

I presume this is a reference to the post that got deleted where you accused me of being on a wind-up for daring to praise Lambert. I think there's a bit of a difference.

(Help this American: "wind-up"is British for "troll," right? Thank you!)

  6. Well we've already got the Lambert version of Tiki taka, minus the the pressing and movement.

... and goals ... and points ... and grace ... and sun-kissed Barcelona skin.

Can't be arsed to read back but is someone seriously suggesting guardiola?

If so you need your head examining, immediately

Uh.hem. Right ... there are a tiny minority of posters who are being very serious and thoughtful and earnest here, but the others (including several who seem to be very much pub-based) are so much more entertaining.

  7.

With the internet and social media every manager will have detractors somewhere - I think it will be between

    Sherwood

    Hoddle

    Curbishley

    Southgate

    Allardyce

Why on earth would Allardyce ever leave a rising, in-form, high-ranked, London-based Premier League club with a huge new stadium for Villa? Can't see it.

Cus he is from Dudlaaay! Chance to move back to the land of the faggot munchers.

As an American, I understand if you are probably very confused about I just said?!

    Bostin!!!

Haha. No, I loik all that, mate. I know I may seem arf soaked,  but I have actually been training myself in yammy Black Country speak for the last few years.

  9. I don't have any problems with big Sam, but I also don't see his particular set of skills as the ones needed to get Villa going, especially our horrible forwards situation. I wish we could get someone who is a good organizer like Sam apparently is but also more into athletic discipline and able to "parent" and inspire his squad -- like Pulis, actually.

  10.

All this excited chatter on VillaTalk almost allows me to pretend that Tom Fox and co. actually give a rat's bottom about what any of us have to say about the new manager question. It's a pleasant delusion!

Wasn't the fans singing for Paul Lambert back in 2012 one of the reasons why they hired him in the first place?

I think we're a long way from singing for anyone!

Ah, to reflect on the utter inanity of the early Lambert-related rhetoric days at Villa. Remember when Bent and Lambert had a budding bromance?  Seems so long ago! Embarrassing.

  13. I'm half expecting someone to mention Roy Keane at some point.

... that was 20 pages ago, mate. It's gone downhill from there ...

  14. Realistically no manager currently in a job in any league in Europe or the championship whose team is doing well won't be coming to villa. List shortens drastically. So we are down to managers at mod table clubs unemployed managers or long shot international job share ie klinnsman dare I say mon. Interesting times ahead as I have no idea who it will be.

I think this thread and reality parted ways about 50 pages ago lol.  :P Agree on Klins but I don't see it happening.

  15. its a shame rafa is attached. he is the kind of manager we need at this stage. but cant see him leaving napoli for  a poor side like us

would anyone consider sven until end of season?

I think Rafa would be a dream manager, too. But yeah, he won't leave Nap.

  16. Just checked the US national team fixtures till the end of the season. Could easily combine both roles. He'd have a Crack at winning FA Cup and being a Villa legend.

    http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2014/12/09/15/26/141209-mnt-2015-sched-first-half-rel

Whether he would want to ?? Can't see it but let's hope.

I think the Brits on the board will dissuade Lerner from picking an American manager. They are too conservative, too afraid of a big change -- just like Lerner!

(I think I may have just alienated ... like ... half of Villa Talk with this arguably stupid statement. I hope I am wrong!)

  17. Why do people want Neil Lennon??? He is one of the most awful human beings in the game.

For real? I think you need to dial down the hyperbole just a mile or so?

Was a city trader who jacked it in to train as a manager at his own expense. Travelled to clubs around Europe to learn before he got the Brentford job.

Love the story, but would rather see him get more seasoned.

Maybe he's in talks with Bruce Arena

    America's answer to Jose Mourinho

Would love to see Arena. Would be shocked it it happens tho. Too insightful a move for Lerner.

Klinsmann, Bradley or Arena I presume if it is true that Fox is in the U.S. at the moment?

Nope, not at all. I think you're forgetting the other chap in the US who has a little bit of a say in this matter.

  18.

I think I'd plump for Curbishley. When he took over West Ham they were in a relegation fight and won 7 of their last 9 games to stay up, plus he overachieved for years with Charlton. Former Villa player, I think his football was fairly decent, he's available and may be willing to do it on a short-term basis. Problem is how long he's been out of management. I just can't see any long-term options available at the moment.

Yeah this would be safe and dull appointment- but is realistic and he could keep us up.

I'd take a dull 17th over an exhilarating drop.
