^ fair enough but i still think it will be interested to see how he fairs playing for a better team. I think he could just be another Roy Carroll.
Boruc however has proved he can play against the best with his Champions League performances, conceding 1 goal against potential champions over 2 legs. Now that for me is pretty impressive.
-
I admit this is a poor example but im at work so cant type for long periods at a time.....If Sorenson had a great game but then made 1 mistake it would cost us the game. If Foster had a great game and made 1 mistake he would be still man of the match because they lost 4-0 anyway.
Do you see my point?

What a midfield for next year
Van Der Vaart.......Barry..........Sneijder.............Young!!!!!
I know it aint gonna happen but Id love this!!!!!
If that was our midfield I'd feel sorry for opposing defences but id feel sorry for our defence a lot more.
-
we talk about improving on what we have and taking us to the next level and then we talk about Ben Foster. Dosent make sense to me.
-
IF however he deciedes he would prefare to play in the premiership I then think we would be favorites to sign him.
If we are even interested and a top 4 club doesn't decide they want him.
Well I suppose there are a couple of things that give us hope.
Firstly, the MON factor. I believe he could convince anyone with his enthusiasm.
And secondly, as always these days, money. We clearly have a wedge, and these are the type of players that we might have to pay silly wages for at the moment to get to come. We may have to behave like Middlesbrough do in the Premiership if we want to get the best players on the European front.
Oh yeah but MON might have looked at and dismissed both Van De Vart and Sneijder.
Yeah but that could be the case of every single player mentioned on this thread. Meaning no thread would exist.
-
Seen Sneijder mentioned a couple of times as a transfer target for us. He looks a great player. What do you think our chances of getting him to come to Villa are, and how much would he cost?
1. Not much chance of us getting him, Valencia are front runners as they have actually made a bid.
2. Probably around 9 to 10mill, bargin really.
IF however he deciedes he would prefare to play in the premiership I then think we would be favorites to sign him.

I see Distin has left City. I imagine if he signs for Pompey it's because we didn't want him. Or is that arrogant?
Its because we didn't want him.
-
So Delaney will be given a new contract I see, what does it take to NOT be given a contract by Villa at the moment?
Delaney cant be injured forever. When/If fit he will still have a few years left in him and for me he is one the best full backs in the league. I remember when he used to make Ryan Giggs look ordinary.
He will be good cover for our new right back.
-
Geremi would be a good signing as hes a very good player but would not solve our right back problem. For that we need an established right back and its hard to think who it could be!
-
One concern I would have about signing him is not that he wouldn;t be able to handle himself in the ENglish Prem as he puts himself about a fair bit, but whether he would WANT to handle himself, or just swan around a bit as, in his eyes, hes not at a massive club. Some could argue we're similar to Ajax - but they're HIS club.
Ajax are one of the biggest clubs in europe. :? But we do have the premier league which is a big attraction.
Also haven't Bayern missed out on the Champions League which will dent their chances.?
Ajax are a big club and do have a rich history but they also play in a poor league and have always been a selling club. We are a bigger club in that respect.
-
Bellend is the one I would find it hardest to suport MON on.
Yes I trust MON but I see nothing inn Bellend that suggests he is better than say Gabby or Moore
I don't know about that, when on form he terrorises pretty much any defence. Barca couldn't handle him and they are European champions.
-
^ But we are Aston Villa. We are destined to return where we belong.
-
There is a compilation of hes top 7 goals on youtube dubbed over with "sleeping in my car"!!! whats all that about?? Cracking goals but no way is he sleeping in my car.
-
So he is like Xavi then.
Petrov was the new Scholes and Maloney the new Joe Cole, is he on level with these players ?
I'd say he's like a Lampard, always trying to get in the box and likes to hit it from range. He's got a hell of a shot on him!
-
I think Sneijder could be a real possibility if he wants to play in the premiership. Some may think he would only join for one of the big four but he wouldnt be guaranteed first team football at one of these clubs?
The chances are though he will go to Spain.
-
i have got the impression from little things ive read from the general on vitalvilla and other people there will be less british players or players already in the premier league coming in and more from the european game this transfer window although i do think we will sign bellamy.
If you look at the recent history of our signings I'd say the sucess rate has been alot higher with players from abroad so id say its probably a good thing if this is the case. The only worry i would have is how long it would take for players to settle and team to gel.

Latics midfielder Scharner has been linked with a move, with Everton and Aston Villa possible destinations.
Shoddy journalism. Every club in the world is technically a 'possible destination'. Scharner is below us. Might sound snobbish but I believe he is.
Whenever I have watched Wigan he has always been the player that has stood out for me. plus he would dye his hair claret and blue. thats what you call dedication!
-
^ not a bad squad player i guess.
-
Well, Distin has now apparently agreed to sign for Portsmouth.
So that's that one out the window.
I'm sure someone on here said he was a dead cert!? Oh well...
If he is going to Portsmouth than I doubt MON ever had him in his sights and has got other defensive targets in mind. If we want our man against the likes of Portsmouth, West Ham, Everton etc we will get him. Like in the case of Young.
-
Its the most exciting name we've been linked to so far though. Pure powerhouse players like Appiah are suited to the premiership.
I'm picturing him in the Defensive midfield type of role that sits behind the defence. Is this where he plays or is he more an attacking midfielder?
-
F365 is linking us with Fenerbahce's midfielder Stephen Appiah. He is the captain of the Ghanaian national team and was voted one of the top 10 all stars of the 2004 olympic football tournament.Impressive list of achievements including helping Juventus to a Serie A title.Definitely in the "world class" category.Hope this isn't just a rumour.
If we pulled this off I think it would be one of the signings of the summer. Awesome player who is rated as high as Essian in his homeland. Now thats saying something.
-
^ still think keepers look better than they really are when they play for poor teams.
-
Regarding the Goalkeeper thingy...
I understand Van Der Saar won't be as first choice next season like he has been this season.
My mate who is a Manure fan thinks VDS will be offloaded in the summer - Prob why fergy is going in for Gordon! so i reacon foster could be out on a season long loan again if this came off! who knows?
Thoughts...
I don't think Foster will ever make it as first team keeper for United for the simple reason he isn't good enough. For that reason I hope we don't sign him either because I feel he no better than Sorenson.
-
Ben Foster would be a great buy....can't see it happening though
sooner have Sorenson in goal tbh. crap teams like Watford make a goalie look good because of the amount of saves he has to make per game. He can concede 3 and still be man of the match at times. A truly class goalie is one that makes match winning saves when had nothing to do all game and also commands the area. Not one that concedes goals scored by the oppositions goalie!

I think this can pretty much end the Sneijder hopes.

I know this was a week ago but the fact he said himself he would like to play in Spain seems to suggest he will hold out for a move there.
