  1. You aren't seriously talking about signing a player because he is decent at free kicks are you?

He is a very mediocre player

Not just the freekicks but every time I've seen him play he has looked pretty impressive. But i admit that was only in the world cup and against Man U so not many games to go on. He did win player of the year but i guess the league is so poor thats not such a big achievement either.

I guess you must have seen a lot of him to feel he is mediocre?

I think he would enhance our squad and he also pays for himself with the amount of money made from his commercial worth in the far east? IMO would be a good signing.

  2. I think Nakamura would be a very astute signing by MON. He'd fit in nicely as a playmaker/winger and would obviously boost our profile in asia (think of all the Nike Nakamura shirts we would sell over there).

He's probably a player at the same quality of Berger imo. A quality player with a few years left in him hungry to perform at this level.

£7million should snap him up (around the same price as Petrov).

Nice one, saved me writing a post. :)

Not forgetting that his probably 1 of the best free kick takers in the world. Even under pressure as shown in World cup and against Man U.

(sorry for two posts there, my mistake  )

  4. Wesley Sneijder's proposed move to Valencia has come off the rails, with the midfielder likely to remain with Ajax.

The Dutch international had made it clear that he wanted to secure a move to the Mestalla, but talks between the two clubs failed to bear fruit.

Ajax refused to shift in their valuation of the 22-year-old and this stance has prompted Valencia to explore other options.

"At this moment there is no concrete interest any more," Ajax technical director Martin van Geel told De Telegraaf.

Van Geel feels Sneijder will overcome the setback and prove his class with Ajax next term.

"Wesley is only 22-years-old, he knows that we want to keep him because he is a leading player and I know that he doesn't find it a punishment to stay at Ajax," noted Van Geel.

And this posted on the same day! When looking at both of them its clear they dont want him to leave but its gonna be inevitable.

  5. Anyway back on topic, and onto Sneijder.

    Can someone give a realistic thought/reply into~

    - Whats currently going on with his situation?

    - What would he approx cost Villa?

    - What would he bring to Villa?

    - What would he offer in terms of on the field, best position etc.?

12 million. Apparently he wants to go Valencia and the president want to buy him against the wish's of the Coach. This was a week ago and nothing has been mentioned since. IMO it wont happen.

He would bring a lot of flair and creativity to a Villa midfield also pitching in with goals. Last player i can think of who did this was Lee Hendrie.

The times I have seen him are for Holland playing just behind strikers and dictating most of the forward player. Outstanding player from what I've seen.

  6. Check these out if you havent already:

"""Some guy i know's nephew goes to school with Craig Bellamy's son and his son told the guys nephew that he was moving to birmingham at the end of the term, which lead us to believe that Bellamy may be moving to Aston Villa.

    Kenneth Rushworth - Widnes

Aston Villa are going to splash the cash within the next month, with the signings of Craig Bellamy, Nigel Reo-Coker, Wesley Sneijder, Urby Emanuelson, Craig Gordon, Darren Bent and Cristian Zaccardo.

    Dan Matthews - Rugeley, Staffordshire"""

I know they mean nothing but still a good read. Imagine if the second 1 came true. This thread would explode!

you wont be liked for that mate :winkold:

I though id take the attention off Viva because his unfairly getting hammered for his private investigator post.

  8. even under completely different ownership/management?

or do the clubs have some sort of gypsy curse, that no one has yet caught on too?

Something like that. The football gods work in mysterious ways. That is why Liverpool managed to beat Milan with 3 attempts on goal all game.

But on a serious note, i just cant see West Ham ever really competing. Don't know why.

  9. West Ham will be a good team next season but they'll always be West Ham.

    good point,

Parker will probably pull out at the last minute and decide he wants to come here instead because of that reason.

Parker isn't a winner for me so will be more than happy to join their revolution. Certain clubs in the country you can throw millions at they will never be successful. West Ham, SHA, Portsmouth, Newcastle are the few that spring to mind.

  10. It's brilliant how fans work....

Newcastle and West Ham go out and buy players - surely they must be buying too rash and too soon! Villa will end up with the best ones

Villa rumored with Jason Koumas - I wonder if his reputation on here got a little bit higher than it would be if he was linked with Birmingham or Derby

Villa linked with a troublesome NRC - surely MON will cure him just like he will cure Carew's scoring and settling problems

    :)

positive thinking my friend. Something villa fans have understandably forgotten how to do :)

  11. West Ham and Newcastle are signing the obvious. I think we have better and less predictable signings on the way.

    I agree with this.

It also lends itself to people going who! He must be cack ;) let me get on FM and You Tube that will sell it for me

Thing is if we've never seen him play but his apparently highly rated and a sought after player we are delighted. But if its a championship player then we don't want him because he is not proven in the premiership.

I know our opinions are the purpose of this thread but surely we need to have some trust in MON and be happy with whoever we buy. At least until/IF they flop.

  12. If im being honest I would not mind if we buy any of the players we have been linked to simply because I trust MON's judgement and will pass judgement until the players signed have had at least half a season. If your going to be upset about a player we buy before he even puts on a shirt then you will never give him a chance.

  13. From The Mercury, has anyone got it today

Villa are also making progress with their bid to sign transfer-listed West Ham skipper Nigel Reo-Coker.

Last night his agent Tony Finnigan said: "What's been in the papers isn't far wrong"

It also mentions stepping up our interest in Craig Gordon

Reo-Coker is going to be a great signing, I really believe it will be :)

As for Gordon, I'd prefer him to Boruc or the PSV goalie!

Gordon is going to be absolute world class!

I have to agree with this. Very positive signings indeed.

  14. People seem to be misssing an important link here, we are DESPERATE for a right back and I notice we have again been linked to Luke Young of Charlton. We need that signing, I was disappointed after originally being linked to him that it went cold, but I think that is one signing that it very much needed. Good attacking right back, available, decent price, perfect. Don't let that one get away!!

Anyone any thoughts or shall we just keep debating the same boring stuff?

I think this will the surprise signing. A player from Europe we haven't heard much of but turns out to be one the greatest right backs in the premiership. Either that or we buy Lahm!
