Is Danny Murphy still at Spurs ? - thought he went charlton ?

I don't know why, but SWP doesn't strike me as a MON type player - hence the loan rumour - Ashley Young - seems more the MON type - if we signed young permanently & SWP on loan - may MON could alternate them for the rest of the season.

I know circumstances dictate, and the takeover was only days old - but if there had been a bit more urgency - perhaps James Milner would be a villa player today. I just get the feeling, that we aren't making bids here and there - and think we are waiting and see - I wish I could sense more urgency

if he was at WBA - its not just him taking in a local game - because MON doesn't live local. Most likley it would be davies he would be watching - I did hope we would be further down the line though - if he is watching him at this stage - it could be that he isn't convinced davies is worth the quoted £7m - the performance of Ridgewell & Cahill today will have given further food for thought.

Lot of positives today. Baros despite scoring , the unsung hero - he scored one - and had a couple of chances - comparable with Larson - ok he scored - but he wasn't the world beater that Mark Lawrenson was making out - what did he do over and above Baros - I wish they would have kept Larsson on - I felt we had him pretty much wrapped up.

I reckon one big name £5-8m and another £1-3m - I just don't see Bent and SWP coming now - I could be wrong - I just think we would have been more strongly linked . I know we could be doing it all in private - but I doub't it.

Yeah - I wouldn't have a go at Kiraly - in over 30 years of supporting villa, I have never known our two first choice keepers to get injured. He was brought in as a stop gap - think everyone knows this - there was never much chance of a permanent deal - unless was an absolute marvel. To be honest he has done slightly better than I expected. - but not enough to warrant a permanent move.

MON has said tonight he wants to build the squad up a 'wee bit' - I really don't think we are in for the Bent's , Defoes, or Even Keane - for whatever reason - I just don't think thats the way MON wants to go.

Can anybody confirm how tall Peter Withe was/is ? - I always thought he was 6ft 1 - but someone a while back said that this was a much used myth, he was actually only 5.8 - he certainly looked bigger than 5-8 - anyone confirm ?

OK - maybe's he's not going to play the target man role - at this point in time - I think he is more likley to join us than other names being banded about. I don't particulary like him as a bloke, but think he would be a quality signing for us.

Hello All I heard ages ago - that Bellamy was MON'S number choice striker. He fits more in the O Neil , big man mould. We don't don't have big guy at all - where as for the smaller striker, we have Angel, Baros, Moore, who could perform this role - on a short term basis. I think a big man is a more pressing requirement - The Link I heard to Bellamy, was the strongest I heard - would also expain our non move for bent - would also fit in with this morning bent to pool rumour. If we are signing a centre forward (for a reasonable fee)- my bet is one of Bellamy, Beattie, Nugent

lets just hope 2 such forwards - terminate there current contracts, buy there own villa kits, drive to villa park, volunteer to train with the current squad - in the hope of getting selected for the first team..... or we might bid for 2 forwards, and sign them .........................naaaaaah !

No they won't because teams have more time to line up replacements. Maybe O'Neill has a deal with Jol that if they sell us Defoe we wont stand in their way for Bent or is that being too positive?

i know clubs are not keen to sell now, hence paying the inflated price for the services. im sure the prices will be even more come summer time when there is a dutch auction for players, especially when there will be most of the premiership with money burning a hole in their pockets. at the moment, there are not many teams who are in a postion to buy, in the range we are looking to buy. - But if the prices suddenley go through the roof in the summer - and I think they will - we have the perfect excuse not to buy anyone - We have been assured that top strikers wouldn't be available in Jan - unexpectedly Bent has become available .....Its a goldeon opportunity to pounce - I don't think a young england international striker will be available in the summer.....but alas Bent now looks destined for Spurs, we couldn't bid as we were preparing for an FA cup game......Spurs weren't in the FA cup you see

to be honest signing a player is always a gamble - its never been quoted but Ron Saunders wanted Mick Fergusson - didn't get him - but had a plan B in Peter Withe ! - Its rumoured that Ron Atkinson wanted Brian Deane - Dean Saunders was his plan B - All this talk 'I can't get the players I want' - you never will - you go for a type of player - you want a type a player - Because we can not get Defoe - are we going to get no one - especially when Bent would seem a pretty good clone - and cruically is available

If we had put a bid in for Nugent I am pretty sure that:- 1.The press would have picked up on it 2.There would have been a response from Preston 3. MON wouldn't have warned us not expect players before the MANU game is out of the way

Yep - bringing in loans - can only mean - we can't afford to buy ...............a bit like a loan to buy a car ... .....if you have the cash you use it - you don't have a loan

My reasons for thinking we aren't in for Young - is that MON warned us not to expect any transfer activity until after the Manu game. I could be wrong but that to me means he hasn't put his bids in yet - so isn't worried by young and Bent going elsewhere. Of course it could mean - he has a verbal agreement with one or both - but prefers to wait until after the Manu game - highly unlikley though - if you have 7 clubs chasing a player - as soon as he agrees - you sign him up (unless your aston villa of course !)

No I don't have the patience until summer - patience has been our downfall in recent years. I think that if we sign players in Jan - we will also sign them in Aug - no activity in Jan , can only mean the Lerner Era is false dawn ...and will be followed by more of the same in Aug... as a few people have said - we need a statement of Intent.
