  1. Would be very happy to sign all of those but we would still need a right back!

Neil Warnock has suggested that Phil Jagielka could eventually replace Gary Neville at right back for England so he can certainly play there as well as other positions. I watched the Villa v Sheffield United game again last night & although i didn't really notice it at the time, Jagielka was far & away thier best player at right back.

I didn't realise that he played (or can play) right back. I thought he was left footed.

  2. Just had a look on the BBC and we have the 4th best home defensive record this season and currently the 6th best away defensive record. Amazing given that most of us feel that we need to add more quality to it whether it be right back or centre back. Goes to show that we aren't far off. Add a quality striker or if Gabby keeps firing and we will be a very good side next season. I would still like Defoe I have decided now!

  3. I wouldn't be surprised if we kept hold of both Davis and Hughes. Whilst I accept that the chances of Davis leaving have increased with the news of Sanchez's appointment I don't think MON will look to offload anyone other than the obvious candidates i.e. those out of contract, Djemba Djemba and maybe Ridge! If we got rid of Hughes, Davis, Moore, McCann, Sorenson etc... then we would not only need to buy a right back, centre back (cover), a left back (cover), a midfielder and a striker but also right back cover, midfield cover, a goal keeper etc... We would be talking of signing 8 players for the first team squad which I think is very unlikely. Whilst I think we may sign 8 players, I can only see 4/5 or so being first team/squad players with the rest being potential.

  4. I sit in the upper trinity and due to injury I was on crutches so I was allowed to use the lifts in the corporate entrance to get up to my seat. The only thing is that because I wasn't going through the turnstiles I was not able to get my scarf. However, the lady on the corporate entrance told me to take a seat whilst she walked round to the turnstiles to pick up my scarf for me.

It was much appreciated, it's just a shame that not everyone is as helpful.

  5. They are error prone at the back and impotent up front. The middle isn't that great either. Having said that, they will spend money. I doubt they will buy any real quality but they may get enough to pip the likes of Sheffield United, Fulham and whoever comes up in the play offs, unless it's Albion.

  6. I agree that we haven't scored enough this season and ten games ago, a striker would have been my priority. However, Gabby's good run up front suggests that he may be the solution. Also, as you suggest, we still miss our fair share of chances but who doesn't? Although signing a Bent, Defoe, Bellamy type player would improve us, if we were to sign a striker I would rather us invest in the potential of say a Nugent or a good squad player like Viduka on a free rather than the 3 mentioned who would almost demand a first team place before agreeing to sign.

  7. That is the sad thing about becoming a better club, players we cherish will leave because they are not getting any playing time.

Maybe but my opinion is that Gabby and Moore can be at least as good as Bent and therefore there would be no point in signing him at the expense of letting either one of them go. There is a difference to letting "cherished" players go and not wanting good players to go and be replaced by players who in reality are not that much better.

  8. Obviously players like Darren Bent are quality but I wouldn't want to sign him and see Gabby and Luke fall down the pecking order as I think they are both good strikers who will score goals.

Yeah but if we bring in players that are better than what we've got then surely thats better for us and obviously that will push Gabby and Luke further down the list. Our aim must be to keep improving on what we've got.....whether home grown or not, the next signing must be to bring in a better player or somebody better for the team than the person in that position...

I am now not convinced that the players we may bring in up front will be better than what we have got. I also think that Gabby and Luke can be at least as good as Bent. Don't get me wrong, signing Bent, Defoe etc... would be great, I am just wary of the fact that you can't keep everyone happy.

  9. On a free, I wouldn't mind Viduka. I think our front line with Carew, Gabby and Moore with Young and Maloney able to play up front, we need a player in the "hold up" mould. I think Viduka would be a decent option for a couple of years as I don't hink we need to overly invest up front anymore. Obviously players like Darren Bent are quality but I wouldn't want to sign him and see Gabby and Luke fall down the pecking order as I think they are both good strikers who will score goals.

  10. Just spoke to my Toffee supporting friend and he said that Barton was on their books until about 16 when they released him as they didn’t think he’d make it. Once he signed for City and started playing in the first team he made loads of fuss about how he was better that a team like Everton etc. He also got in a fight with a load of the Everton players when they were on tour. That led to the notorious “Cigar stubbed in the eye of a youth team player†incident.

To be fair, you must be a certain type of person to do that as well as beat one of your team mates up, not just a slap either. His brother was also sent down as you probably know for him and a mate attacking a ‘black’ person with an axe. Apparently it was a racist attack.

We really don’t need players like that at our club, seriously. Bellemy on the other hand, I feel simply has a temper and is a bit cocky for his own good. I wouldn’t grumble if we signed him. Rather sign Defoe though.

They didn't just attack him....THEY KILLED HIM......i was hoping it was an isolated incident...and i don't like judging people....but it seems that they really are a family of thugs!!!And if i ever saw Barton or his brother i would gladly return the favours they have dealt out to innocent people with a baseball bat and a Cutlass......Yardie Style!!!

Don't stoop to their level mate! I don't want Barton despite the fact that he could be a brilliant player. Some peoples posts are making me warm to the idea of signing Bellamy too.

  11. Yep sorry you're correct... still think he is completely unproven at Premiership level...

Although I think he is a good player and has the potential to be excellent, he still hasn't played that many top flight games. I would be nervous paying alot of money for him given that he has been injured for a long time and so whether he is the player he was before may be in some doubt. I doubt he would be prepared to be a squad player either so I think Nugent may be a better bet!

  12. Last weekend I went to watch Sporting Lisbon. I noticed a couple of interesting things. Firstly they had a massive poster right on the side of their stadium which basically had an electronic tally of tickets that were sold for that game. I think the poster translated to something like, "Are you going to stay outside or join every one else inside and get behind Sporting?"

Also when I tried to buy refreshments inside the stadium, you had to buy a card/voucher (of various amounts) and then use that to pay for your items. This would firstly stop people handling as much cash as there would be only a select few people who sell the cards, also people may leave money on the cards and therefore the club may make some extra profit as away fans will obviously throw them after the game.

It could be operated much in the same way as an Oyster card ie, you top up over the phone, on line or via some machines/agents. Then with just a swipe of the card you have paid.

It sounds like a very good idea to me.
