  1. I was disappointed when he joined the club, not because he was ex Blues but because there was a sense of " is this the best manager we can get?" The tripe we played under O'Leary at the end of his tenure was awful, but with the players we now have this unambitious fodder is insulting to the supporters. How much of a genius do you have to be to realise that a) hoofing the ball upfield to Bent is a complete waste of time. If you want to play that way hoof it to Heskey or Gabby instead. B) the defence are constantly under pressure because they get no respite and c) people watch football to be entertained irrespective of what division their club is in as 48,000 v Bournemouth 1972 shows. The manager has to bear responsibility for setting the team up this way and the board of directors ought to feel ashamed for allowing this underachievement to be served to the supporters.

  2. Am I the only one who thought we played quite well then? Deserved at least a point.

We did, but we faded badly and the first two substitutions made us worse. Couldn't fault Warnock's commitment but the times he gives the ball away is frightening. Hutton in the first half with Ireland different to Hutton second half with Bannan. Bent had a poor game, e.g. the way he just stood and watched his pass to Keane in the first half instead of getting into the box, his lack of pace when put through on goal. Dunne a Jeckyl and Hyde performance.

Overall, poor substitutions and sitting deeper and deeper second half cost us at least a point.

  3. I find it disappointing yet again that Heskey is slammed for the things he did wrong rather than the things he did right.

From where I was sitting he came on and changed the game, yes he missed that awful chance by a mile but at least he offered something unlike a lot of players today.

    Have to agree.

  4. Well I was prepared to give him a chance and remember that even Ferguson didn't have a great start at Man U.

40 years watching the Villa and this is more hopeless than any season in memory, even when I watched the likes of Norton and Stainrod in a relegation battle, (then again maybe on a par with the DOL managed debacle at Doncaster).

The worst thing you can take from a football supporter is hope and at the moment my optimism before each match is negligable at best.

If money is tight then we have to face up to the fact that we are going to have to play differently until things improve. Playing Bent this way is doing him no favours. Hoofball = Targetman, better Heskey and Bent together upfront or Heskey alone.

No1 Priority is get Hughes installed as manager NOW.

  5. Stephen Ireland was clearly the man of the match for me, he looked a class act, a real pity that he didn't get on the scoresheet but the goalkeeper made some excellent saves during the match. The sponsors gave MOM to Bannan - I can't see it myself, I would describe his performance as industrious Lichaj's tackle for his booking was to say the least industrial! Dunne and Clark played well.

  6. At first I was quite shocked by the latest staement, but on reflection, i think it might have been cleverley worded. I'm sticking to the thought that maybe the club statement could have precipitated the reports from the journos (they saw it before we did) who have interpreted it in a way they see fit. It seems strange that the reports and statements all came out in a very short space of time and that would still allow for a certain amount of ambiguity. I won't believe it's a done deal until it's official, but if it turns out to be the case there's not much I can do about it but keep on supporting the club I have for forty years and looking for the positives.

  7. We have been knocked back, so he's about 4th choice and we have no choice.

To be knocked back, I'm assuming that someone has to be offered the post and turned it down. I don't remember hearing anything concrete about any manager being offered the job, just a load of speculation. The flow of stuff on Twitter is amazing, it makes you think the board are running around pleading with people to manage the club everytime the favourite in the betting changes. I don't believe the job is Martinez's to turn down and i have faith that the board will make a good choice.

  8. If a new manager comes in what's the likelihood of an "everyone starts with a clean slate" quote? In which case several of the players that maybe visitors to this forum suggest ought to be gone won't be. IMO many of the players we have are good players but this season I've seen them play well as individuals but poorly as a team. Given this we need a team builder. Coyle would be a good shout, Moyes wouldn't take us any further than MON but for now I'd settle for that! even Neil Warnock could do a better job with these players than GH and GMac but we wouldn't progress far enough with him. The only current Prem manager who would be able to take us anywhere near where we dreamed of a couple of years ago I reckon is (runs for cover) Harry Redknapp and he won't be coming. Benitez? Allardyce? Curbishley? NO THANKS.

  9. After the Newcastle game I wrote on here that bringing on pires was a rubbish substitution and it nearly cost us the win only to get moaned at -"Didn't we win this game" etc. Well there today you once again can see why I don't want McAllister anywhere near this football club next season. One-nil up Dunne off, why not Cuellar on? Equaliser then never mind they are down to 10 men. And in effect when he put Pires on so were we - pathetic.

Oh and Jack Woodward's commentary today was dreadful. Before there equaliser he was talking about snooker. Big game again next weekend now and quite simply it shouldn't be - well only for Wigan.

  10. but i wish we would stop sitting back whenever we go ahead. we have done it for years, and it gives teams a chance to get back at us.

    this

On paper a good result, in reality another 2 points thrown away. The defence is not good enough to sit back. Even if we were 7 - 0 up with 10 minutes to go I'd still be worried we weren't going to see the game out for 3 points.

I don't buy this Everton reserves stuff either, they had a good enough team out today and they were at home.

    Next week will be huge.
