  1. Superb battling performance. On the whole good shape and the kids did well. GH got the tactics and the subs pretty much spot on.

Still worry about Dunne falling asleep though

As for the ref he proved again that there is a 100% favouritism clause towards Man Utd. Both Nani and Brown should have been sent off.

And perhaps, according to Sky so should Vidic

  2. we're going in one direction. thanks yanks.

Randy didn't walk out on us a few days before the season started.

It was always going to be a tough season. Give the new manager time to build his own team.

Thank you for not buying a striker Mr O'Neill and then choosing the worst possible time to walk out. Result is gutting, the all too familiar way of chucking away points is gutting/farcical. This season has now got to be about keeping away from relegation trouble and letting the manager build his team. I'm optimistic but when Gabby gets back, please, please, please get Young back on the wing - this attempt to play him through the middle (started by KMac) ain't any good, and why no Cuellar at CB?

  3. Two main turning points. First leaving Cuellar out for Dunne, secondly Carew having to come on for Heskey. Albrighton needs to be subbed about 10 minutes earlier. Sounded a good performance but has a feeling which way it was going to go after we scored and appeared to sit too deep. Also interesteing to hear the Villa commentary as you could hear someone commentating on the game in the background (Tom Ross?) who always managed to describe everything that was happening before Jack Woodward could (good comments from Ken McNaught though).

  4. Robbed at the end for them to win was a travesty didn't realise Wimbledon were still in the premiership. Too lightweight up front second half but Collins was excellent in defence. Hope houllier gets here soon, very soon.

  5. I'll pretend this is the ratings an dreactions thread

Guzan - 1 what a joke that this guy gets on the pitch still, simply awful, not good enough for Aston Villa, hopefully Shay Given will be in by tuesday

    Cuellar - 5

    Collins - 5

Davies - 4 Top 4 contenders, seriously, would John Terry or Rio Ferdinand or come to think of it Jonny Evans attempt that clearance that gave the corner for the second goal?

Beye - 4 Not good enough for Aston Villa F.C.

Ireland - 6 promising, then disappeared

Young - 3 Get up off the floor

Petrov -3 Captain, don't make me laugh, Pathetic penalty, bet he wouldn't take one like that against England at Wembley

Reo-Coker - 5 Unbelievably managed to keep possession and pass to his own team

Gabby - 6 missed as soon as he went off

Heskey - 5 at least he found the net

    Albrighton - 6 enthusiastic

    Delfouenso - 5 enthusiastic

Very worrying, I'm not suprised K-Mac has the backing of the players i bet it's all just a little bit to cushy and cosy for them. We need a manager that's going to get them to play - even Mick McCarthy is beginning to look appealing and likewise Maradona.

Don't Panic! Don't Panic! but if someone can't get this shower into shape soon we are going to be on the end of some more hammerings.

  6. Second half was as pathetic a performance I can remember since doncaster in the league cup.

friedel - 3 not good enough and unfortunately neither is his understudy

    young l - 4 offered very little

dunne - 3 terrible error to put us out of it before half time

clark - 5 ok in a terrible defence

warnock - 4 shaky and nothing fluid going forward

albrighton - 4 never got into it, rightly substituted

ireland - 5 looked lost but at least looked bothered

petrov - 2 these are the sort of games where a captain has a big role to play, he didn't and second half we were headless chickens

downing - 3 not good enough for this club

carew - 4 you cannot afford to miss penalties

young - 7 MOM must be very frustrated

heskey - 4 I hope he can find success elsewhere

reo-coker - 1 after seeing him dispossessed while apparently asleep twice i hope he never plays for us again

beye - not on long enough

all of the teams that we ought to be challenging this season would have seen off Newcastle within the first half hour, Chelsea would have buried them. The second half performance shows we've got big problems and with a week of the transfer window left it's going to be a long season - may be we should be taking the Europa Cup seriously.

  7. Just watched his press conference on the Sun website, seemed to me that all that he was really saying was he was 100% focussed on the immediate goal of getting into the England squad and playing in the World Cup, I couldn't read anything into his answer about staying at Villa one way or the other. All that was apparent is that he's desperate to go to the World Cup.

If he does go for silly money I hope we don't cough up the reported 15m for Carlton Cole.

  8. Gave a good account of ourselves until we had to chase the game and lost a bit of shape. Flattering scoreline for them, the noise from the Villa fans was brilliant. Could have been different for a penalty that never was but even should have been awarded according to Ray Wilkins. Howard Webb is the FA choice to officiate in the World Cup, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'd rather send Howard Moon

  9. General, re: point 4 from Sellyoakvilla - this is something that overseas fans would definitely purchase also, I know I would. At times I've considered a season ticket just to support the club and ensure I get some sort of preference for finals etc but it is a big spend for someone that flies in only one or two times a year.

I'd definitely buy a membership though without hesitation.

I agree were can we sign up!

    General,

This is the first time in 40 years that I have not been to Villa Park due to living overseas and work commitments. I could however have made it to Wembley as its over my Easter holiday. Now that I am finally allowed to buy a ticket (two days before the match), I won't be coming due to the small matter of the £350 airfare. This would have been much less had I known I could get a ticket two weeks ago so I would definitely be interested in a membership as mentioned.

  10. Dear General,

I can sympathise with you having to keep in touch via the ESPN Soccer Net. I cannot get to the majority of games because of work. I live in an area of Great Britain which requires me to pay a TV licence but if I want to listen to an online commentary I have no choice unless it's nationally broadcast to listen to Jack Woodward and pay 3.99 a month for the privilege. There are others in my household who follow Sheffield United commentaries. For 3.99 a month that subscription allows access to 9 Premier League, 64 Football League and 8 Non-League clubs' commentaries and websites (similar to the Villa subscription until last summer). For my 3.99 I can now access the Villa only and I don't even get the choice of listening to a commentary provided by a Woodward alternative e.g. WM. Fulham's commentary is Free. How come the Villa option offers such relative poor value for money?

  11. The most embarrassing performance that I've ever suffered through as an Aston Villa fan. The kind of performance that I'm not sure we can mentally recover from and that should make a manager seriously consider his position.

You must be relatively young :)

But then again I can't remember conceding seven EVER

  12. is it beyond foolish to consider driving down? I know already it would be an almost certain nightmare tryin to find somewhere to park but has anyone on here tried it before?

When I went in 2000 we parked on a Tescos about 2 miles from Wembley and walked the rest of the way

Went last year for the championship play off, parked at Hillingdon station, just off the end of the M40, very easy to find and took the tube in. Downsides are it was used by more Burnley than Sheffield (to be expected) so expect a few Mancs to do this, it was popular and the car park was nearly full when we got there just after 11.

Some people mentioned a site called parkatmyhouse where people rent you a space on their drive can't recommend it myself as i never tried it.

Wish I could be going, but can't get a flight back in time for work. Hope everyone has a fantastic time

  13. General,

Is there any chance of explaining to Jack Woodward and Andy Blair that the purpose of a radio commentary is to explain what is happening on the pitch to people who can't see the game? I don't live in England and I ended up listening on Match Live yesterday. I had to switch to the second half on Radio Stoke because I couldn't visualise what was happening on the pitch.

At one point after a well described Villa attack I briefly switched back to hear Andy Blair describe how Petrov's effort had coincided with a change of the advertising hoarding!
